These drivers check tty_unregister_driver return value. But they don't handle a failure correctly (they free the driver in any case). Set tty_ldisc_ops::owner to THIS_MODULE. This has no effect currently as n_tty cannot be built as a module. First, it is never checked. Second, use of it as a debugging aid is at least questionable. With the current tools, I don't think anyone used this kind of thing for debugging purposes for years. 2021-03-10tty: rocket, remove the driverJiri Slaby
While the driver is still marked as maintained in MAINTAINERS, Comtrol does not really care about this ancient driver. They are still manufacturing serial devices, but those are controlled only by out-of-tree drivers. Comtrol didn't answer my pings, so this driver is apparently unmaintained. Aside from that, the driver was untouched for years, only whole-tree changes happened during the past years. The driver needs much more care, so drop it for now. If someone steps up to reintroduce it, they need to clean it up first. The Cyclades driver was orphaned by commit d459883e6c54 (MAINTAINERS: remove two dead e-mail) 13 years ago. Noone stepped up to take care of them and to fix all the issues the driver has. On the top of that, there is no way to obtain the firmware for Z cards from the vendor as cyclades.com ceased to exist. So it's time to drop the driver with all its traces. No need to keep around the dentry pointer for the debugfs file if all it is used for is to remove it when we are wanting to clean up, as the pointer can be looked up directly from debugfs instead. This also removes pointless #ifdef CONFIG_DEBUG_FS brackets as the compiler is smart enough to handle this properly if debugfs is disabled without us having to worry about it. Pierre-Louis writes: Our SOF/audio CI shows an across-the-board regression when we try v5.12-rc1, specifically on pause/resume tests with an interactive terminal running 'aplay -i' commands managed by expect to simulate the user pressing the space bar to pause/unpause. It turns out the processes are not longer killed and the audio devices remain busy (see publicly available test results listed below). git bisect points to commit 33d4ae9885987 ("drivers:tty:pty: Fix a race causing data loss on close"). Reverting the patch fixes the issue on all test devices. Further analysis with Corey Minyard points to a problem where a slave tty will not get a SIGHUP when the master is closed. FIFO is triggered 4 intervals after receiving a byte, it's good when we don't care about the time of reception, but are only interested in the presence of any activity on the line. Unfortunately, this method is not suitable for all tasks, for example, the RS-485 protocol will not work properly, since the state machine must track the request-response time and after the timeout expires, a decision is made that the device on the line is not responding. The pcl726 driver has an "interrupt" subdevice that supports Comedi asynchronous commands, placing a value in the Comedi buffer for each interrupt. The subdevice uses Comedi's 16-bit sample format but the interrupt handler is calling `comedi_buf_write_samples()` with the address of a 32-bit integer `&s->state`. On bigendian machines, this will copy 2 bytes from the wrong end of the 32-bit integer. This isn't really a problem since `s->state` will always be 0 for this subdevice, but clean it up by using a 16-bit variable initialized to 0 to pass the value.
