There is no reason to maintain separate variables for this_group and busiest_group in sd_lb_stat, except saving some space. But this structure is always allocated in stack, so this saving isn't really benificial [peterz: reducing stack space is good; in this case readability increases enough that I think its still beneficial] This patch unify these variables, so IMO, readability may be improved. 2013-09-02sched: Factor out code to should_we_balance()Joonsoo Kim
Now checking whether this cpu is appropriate to balance or not is embedded into update_sg_lb_stats() and this checking has no direct relationship to this function. There is not enough reason to place this checking at update_sg_lb_stats(), except saving one iteration for sched_group_cpus. In this patch, I factor out this checking to should_we_balance() function. And before doing actual work for load_balancing, check whether this cpu is appropriate to balance via should_we_balance(). If this cpu is not a candidate for balancing, it quit the work immediately. With this change, we can save two memset cost and can expect better compiler optimization. 2013-09-02dmaengine: PL08x: Add support for different maximum transfer sizeTomasz Figa
PL080S has separate register to store transfer size in, allowing single transfer to be much larger than in standard PL080. This patch makes the amba-pl08x driver aware of this and removes writing transfer size to reserved bits of CH_CONTROL register on PL080S, which was not a problem witn transfer sizes fitting the original bitfield of PL080, but now would overwrite other fields. 2013-09-02dmaengine: PL08x: Rework LLI handling to be less fragileTomasz Figa
Currently memory allocated for LLIs is casted to an array of structs, which is fragile and also limits the driver to a single, predefined LLI layout, while there are some variants of PL08x, which have more fields in LLI (namely PL080S with its extra CCTL2). This patch makes LLIs a sequence of 32-bit words, which is just filled with appropriate values in appropriate order and padded with required amount of dummy words (currently zero, but PL080S will make better use of this). It is a read-only helper and was thus declassified for unprivileged access in: commit a14b1b42477c5ef089fcda88cbaae50d979eb8f9 Author: Mandeep Singh Baines <mandeep.baines@gmail.com> Date: Fri Jan 20 12:11:16 2012 -0800 drm: remove master fd restriction on mode setting getters However, alongside width, height and stride information, DRM_IOCTL_MODE_GETFB also passes back a handle to the underlying buffer of the framebuffer. This handle allows users to mmap() it and read or write into it. Obviously, this should be restricted to DRM-Master. With the current setup, *any* process with access to /dev/dri/card0 (which means any process with access to hardware-accelerated rendering) can access the current screen framebuffer and modify it ad libitum. For backwards-compatibility reasons we want to keep the DRM_IOCTL_MODE_GETFB call unprivileged. Besides, it provides quite useful information regarding screen setup. So we simply test whether the caller is the current DRM-Master and if not, we return 0 as handle, which is always invalid. A following DRM_IOCTL_GEM_CLOSE on this handle will fail with EINVAL, but we accept this. Users shouldn't test for errors during GEM_CLOSE, anyway. If there are not enough stripes to handle, we'd better not always queue all available work_structs. If one worker can only handle small or even none stripes, it will impact request merge and create lock contention. With this patch, the number of work_struct running will depend on pending stripes number. Note: some statistics info used in the patch are accessed without locking protection. This patch adds the notion of a drm_bridge. A bridge is a chained device which hangs off an encoder. The drm driver using the bridge should provide the association between encoder and bridge. Once a bridge is associated with an encoder, it will participate in mode set, and dpms (via the enable/disable hooks). For performance reasons, when SMAP is in use, SMAP is left open for an entire put_user_try { ... } put_user_catch(); block, however, calling __put_user() in the middle of that block will close SMAP as the STAC..CLAC constructs intentionally do not nest. Furthermore, using __put_user() rather than put_user_ex() here is bad for performance. Thus, introduce new [compat_]save_altstack_ex() helpers that replace __[compat_]save_altstack() for x86, being currently the only architecture which supports put_user_try { ... } put_user_catch(). Add 'playback_only' and 'capture_only' fields that can be used for specifying that a dai_link has a unidirectional capability. The motivation for this is for the cases of systems, such as Freescale MX28, that has two unidirectional DAIs.
