2023-07-28Revert "fbcon: Use kzalloc() in fbcon_prepare_logo()"Geert Uytterhoeven
This reverts commit a6a00d7e8ffd78d1cdb7a43f1278f081038c638f. This commit is redundant, as the root cause that resulted in a false positive was fixed by commit 27f644dc5a77f8d9 ("x86: kmsan: use C versions of memset16/memset32/memset64"). 2023-07-24fbdev: Add fb_ops init macros for framebuffers in DMA-able memoryThomas Zimmermann
Add initializer macros for struct fb_ops for framebuffers in DMA-able memory areas. Also add a corresponding Kconfig token. As of now, this is equivalent to system framebuffers and mostly useful for labeling drivers correctly. A later patch may add a generic DMA-specific mmap operation. Linux offers a number of dma_mmap_*() helpers for different use cases. 2023-07-22fbdev: Split frame buffer support in FB and FB_CORE symbolsJavier Martinez Canillas
Currently the CONFIG_FB option has to be enabled even if no legacy fbdev drivers are needed (e.g: only to have support for framebuffer consoles). The DRM subsystem has a fbdev emulation layer, but depends on CONFIG_FB and so it can only be enabled if that dependency is enabled as well. That means fbdev drivers have to be explicitly disabled if users want to enable CONFIG_FB, only to use fbcon and/or the DRM fbdev emulation layer. This patch introduces a non-visible CONFIG_FB_CORE symbol that could be enabled just to have core support needed for CONFIG_DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION, allowing CONFIG_FB to be disabled (and automatically disabling all the fbdev drivers). Nothing from fb_backlight.o and fbmon.o is used by the DRM fbdev emulation layer so these two objects can be compiled out when CONFIG_FB is disabled. 2023-07-22fbdev: Move core fbdev symbols to a separate Kconfig fileJavier Martinez Canillas
The drivers/video/fbdev/Kconfig defines both symbols for fbdev drivers and core fbdev symbols, that can be enabled independently of the fbdev drivers. Split the Kconfig in two, one that only has the symbols for fbdev drivers and another one that contains the fbdev core symbols. 2023-07-20fbdev: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2023-07-08fbdev/hecubafb: Generate deferred I/O opsThomas Zimmermann
Use the existing generator macros to create deferred-I/O helpers for hecubafb and set them in the fb_ops structure. Functions for damage handling on memory ranges and areas are provided by the driver. Hecubafb's implementation of fb_write writes to system memory, so the generated code can use the respective helper internally. This also fixes a long-standing bug where fb_write returned an errno code instead of the number of written bytes. 2023-06-30sticon/parisc: Fix STI console on 64-bit only machinesHelge Deller
Fix the STI console to be able to execute either the 64-bit STI ROM code or the 32-bit STI ROM code. This is necessary on 64-bit only machines (e.g. C8000 workstation) which otherwise won't show the STI text console with HP graphic cards like Visualize-FX5/FX10/FXe. Note that when calling 32-bit code from a 64-bit kernel one needs to copy contents on the CPU stack from high memory down below the 4GB limit. 2023-06-27fbdev: Make support for userspace interfaces configurableThomas Zimmermann
Add Kconfig option CONFIG_FB_DEVICE and make the virtual fbdev device optional. If the new option has not been selected, fbdev does not create files in devfs, sysfs or procfs. Most modern Linux systems run a DRM-based graphics stack that uses the kernel's framebuffer console, but has otherwise deprecated fbdev support. Yet fbdev userspace interfaces are still present. The option makes it possible to use the fbdev subsystem as console implementation without support for userspace. This closes potential entry points to manipulate kernel or I/O memory via framebuffers. It also prevents the execution of driver code via ioctl or sysfs, both of which might allow malicious software to exploit bugs in the fbdev code. A small number of fbdev drivers require struct fbinfo.dev to be initialized, usually for the support of sysfs interface. Make these drivers depend on FB_DEVICE. They can later be fixed if necessary. v3: * effect -> affect in Kconfig help (Daniel) v2: * set FB_DEVICE default to y (Geert) * comment on {get,put}_device() (Sam) * Kconfig fixes (Sam) * add TODO item about FB_DEVICE dependencies (Sam) Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Acked-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> Reviewed-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20230613110953.24176-39-tzimmermann@suse.de
