2025-04-04net: phylink: pass PHY interface mode into MAC LPI methodsRussell King (Oracle)
Ass the PHY interface mode into mac_disable_tx_lpi() and mac_enable_tx_lpi() methods. Signed-off-by: Russell King (Oracle) <rmk+kernel@armlinux.org.uk>
2025-04-04net: phylink: add phylink_prepare_resume()Russell King (Oracle)

2025-04-04net: phylink: add support for notifying PCS about EEERussell King (Oracle)
There are hooks in the stmmac driver into XPCS to control the EEE settings when LPI is configured at the MAC. This bypasses the layering. To allow this to be removed from the stmmac driver, add two new methods for PCS to inform them when the LPI/EEE enablement state changes at the MAC. Signed-off-by: Russell King (Oracle) <rmk+kernel@armlinux.org.uk>
2025-04-04net: phylink: provide phylink_mac_implements_lpi()Russell King (Oracle)
Provide a helper to determine whether the MAC operations structure implements the LPI operations, which will be used by both phylink and DSA. Signed-off-by: Russell King (Oracle) <rmk+kernel@armlinux.org.uk>
2025-01-16net: phylink: add EEE managementRussell King (Oracle)
Add EEE management to phylink, making use of the phylib implementation. This will only be used where a MAC driver populates the methods and capabilities bitfield, otherwise we keep our old behaviour. Phylink will keep track of the EEE configuration, including the clock stop abilities at each end of the MAC to PHY link, programming the PHY appropriately and preserving the LPI configuration should the PHY go away. Phylink will call into the MAC driver when LPI needs to be enabled or disabled, with the requirement that the MAC have LPI disabled prior to the netdev being brought up (in other words, it will only call mac_disable_tx_lpi() if it has already called mac_enable_tx_lpi().) Support for phylink managed EEE is enabled by populating both tx_lpi MAC operations method pointers, and filling in both LPI interfaces and capabilities. If the methods are provided but the LPI interfaces or capabilities remain empty, this indicates to phylink that EEE is implemented by the driver but the hardware it is driving does not support EEE, and thus the ethtool set_eee() and get_eee() methods will return EOPNOTSUPP. No validation of the LPI timer value is performed by this patch. For interface modes which do not support LPI, we make no attempt to manipulate the phylib EEE advertisement, but instead refuse to activate LPI at the MAC, noting it at debug message level. We also restrict the advertisement and reported userspace support linkmode masks according to the lpi_capabilities provided to phylink by the MAC driver. 2025-01-06net: phylink: add support for PCS supported_interfaces bitmapRussell King (Oracle)
Add support for the PCS to specify which interfaces it supports, which can be used by MAC drivers to build the main supported_interfaces bitmap. Phylink also validates that the PCS returned by the MAC driver supports the interface that the MAC was asked for. An empty supported_interfaces bitmap from the PCS indicates that it does not provide this information, and we handle that appropriately. Add a pcs_inband_caps() method to query the PCS for its inband link capabilities, and use this to determine whether link modes used with optical SFPs can be supported. When a PCS does not provide a method, we allow inband negotiation to be either on or off, making this a no-op until the pcs_inband_caps() method is implemented by a PCS driver. 2024-06-18net: phy: introduce core support for phy-mode = "10g-qxgmii"Vladimir Oltean
10G-QXGMII is a MAC-to-PHY interface defined by the USXGMII multiport specification. It uses the same signaling as USXGMII, but it multiplexes 4 ports over the link, resulting in a maximum speed of 2.5G per port. Some in-tree SoCs like the NXP LS1028A use "usxgmii" when they mean either the single-port USXGMII or the quad-port 10G-QXGMII variant, and they could get away just fine with that thus far. 2024-03-28net: phylink: add rxc_always_on flag to phylink_pcsRomain Gantois
Some MAC drivers (e.g. stmmac) require a continuous receive clock signal to be generated by a PCS that is handled by a standalone PCS driver. Such a PCS driver does not have access to a PHY device, thus cannot check the PHY_F_RXC_ALWAYS_ON flag. They cannot check max_requires_rxc in the phylink config either, since it is a private member. Therefore, a new flag is needed to signal to the PCS that it should keep the RX clock signal up at all times. 2024-03-28net: phylink: add PHY_F_RXC_ALWAYS_ON to PHY dev flagsRussell King (Oracle)
Some MAC controllers (e.g. stmmac) require their connected PHY to continuously provide a receive clock signal. This can cause issues in two cases: 1. The clock signal hasn't been started yet by the time the MAC driver initializes its hardware. This can make the initialization fail, as in the case of the rzn1 GMAC1 driver. 2. The clock signal is cut during a power saving event. By the time the MAC is brought back up, the clock signal is still not active since phylink_start hasn't been called yet. This brings us back to case 1. If a PHY driver reads this flag, it should ensure that the receive clock signal is started as soon as possible, and that it isn't brought down when the PHY goes into suspend. If the phy is configured to use pause-based rate matching, ensure that the link is full duplex with pause frame reception enabled. As suggested, if pause-based rate matching is enabled by the phy, then pause reception is unconditionally enabled. The interface duplex is determined based on the rate matching type. When rate matching is enabled, so is the speed. We assume the maximum interface speed is used. This is only relevant for MLO_AN_PHY. For MLO_AN_INBAND, the MAC/PCS's view of the interface speed will be used. Although there are no RATE_ADAPT_CRS phys in-tree, it has been added for comparison (and the implementation is quite simple). This is because MAC drivers must then work with an ethtool linkmode bitmap, instead of with mac capabilities. Instead, let the caller of phylink_get_linkmodes do the conversion. To reflect this change, rename the function to phylink_get_capabilities. Signed-off-by: Sean Anderson <sean.anderson@seco.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2022-09-23net: phylink: Export phylink_caps_to_linkmodesSean Anderson
This function is convenient for MAC drivers. They can use it to add or remove particular link modes based on capabilities (such as if half duplex is not supported for a particular interface mode). 2022-09-23net: phylink: Document MAC_(A)SYM_PAUSESean Anderson
This documents the possible MLO_PAUSE_* settings which can result from different combinations of MAC_(A)SYM_PAUSE. Special note is paid to settings which can result from user configuration (MLO_PAUSE_AN). The autonegotiation results are more-or-less a direct consequence of IEEE 802.3 Table 28B-2. As there are now no users of phylink_helper_basex_speed(), we can remove this obsolete functionality. Signed-off-by: Russell King (Oracle) <rmk+kernel@armlinux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2022-02-28net: phylink: remove phylink_set_pcs()Russell King (Oracle)
As all users of phylink_set_pcs() have now been updated to use the mac_select_pcs() method, it can be removed from the phylink kernel API and its functionality moved into phylink_major_config(). Removing phylink_set_pcs() gives us a single approach for attaching a PCS within phylink. Signed-off-by: Russell King (Oracle) <rmk+kernel@armlinux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: David S. phylink_config's pcs_poll is no longer used, let's get rid of it. Signed-off-by: Russell King (Oracle) <rmk+kernel@armlinux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2022-02-05net: phylink: remove phylink_set_10g_modes()Russell King (Oracle)
phylink_set_10g_modes() is no longer used with the conversion of drivers to phylink_generic_validate(), so we can remove it. Signed-off-by: Russell King (Oracle) <rmk+kernel@armlinux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2021-12-16net: phylink: add pcs_validate() methodRussell King (Oracle)
Add a hook for PCS to validate the link parameters. This avoids MAC drivers having to have knowledge of their PCS in their validate() method, thereby allowing several MAC drivers to be simplfied.
