2024-02-12KVM: selftests: Fix GUEST_PRINTF() format warnings in ARM codeSean Christopherson
Fix a pile of -Wformat warnings in the KVM ARM selftests code, almost all of which are benign "long" versus "long long" issues (selftests are 64-bit only, and the guest printf code treats "ll" the same as "l"). The code itself isn't problematic, but the warnings make it impossible to build ARM selftests with -Werror, which does detect real issues from time to time. Opportunistically have GUEST_ASSERT_BITMAP_REG() interpret set_expected, which is a bool, as an unsigned decimal value, i.e. have it print '0' or '1' instead of '0x0' or '0x1'. correctly There are some feature fields with nonzero minimum valid value. Make sure get_safe_value() won't return invalid field values for them. Also fix a bug that wrongly uses the feature bits type as the feature bits sign causing all fields as signed in the get_safe_value() and get_invalid_value(). Pull kvm updates from Paolo Bonzini: "Generic: - Use memdup_array_user() to harden against overflow. - Unconditionally advertise KVM_CAP_DEVICE_CTRL for all architectures. - Clean up Kconfigs that all KVM architectures were selecting - New functionality around "guest_memfd", a new userspace API that creates an anonymous file and returns a file descriptor that refers to it. guest_memfd files are bound to their owning virtual machine, cannot be mapped, read, or written by userspace, and cannot be resized. guest_memfd files do however support PUNCH_HOLE, which can be used to switch a memory area between guest_memfd and regular anonymous memory. - New ioctl KVM_SET_MEMORY_ATTRIBUTES allowing userspace to specify per-page attributes for a given page of guest memory; right now the only attribute is whether the guest expects to access memory via guest_memfd or not, which in Confidential SVMs backed by SEV-SNP, TDX or ARM64 pKVM is checked by firmware or hypervisor that guarantees confidentiality (AMD PSP, Intel TDX module, or EL2 in the case of pKVM). x86: - Support for "software-protected VMs" that can use the new guest_memfd and page attributes infrastructure. This is mostly useful for testing, since there is no pKVM-like infrastructure to provide a meaningfully reduced TCB. - Fix a relatively benign off-by-one error when splitting huge pages during CLEAR_DIRTY_LOG. - Fix a bug where KVM could incorrectly test-and-clear dirty bits in non-leaf TDP MMU SPTEs if a racing thread replaces a huge SPTE with a non-huge SPTE. - Use more generic lockdep assertions in paths that don't actually care about whether the caller is a reader or a writer. - let Xen guests opt out of having PV clock reported as "based on a stable TSC", because some of them don't expect the "TSC stable" bit (added to the pvclock ABI by KVM, but never set by Xen) to be set. - Revert a bogus, made-up nested SVM consistency check for TLB_CONTROL. - Advertise flush-by-ASID support for nSVM unconditionally, as KVM always flushes on nested transitions, i.e. always satisfies flush requests. This allows running bleeding edge versions of VMware Workstation on top of KVM. - Sanity check that the CPU supports flush-by-ASID when enabling SEV support. - On AMD machines with vNMI, always rely on hardware instead of intercepting IRET in some cases to detect unmasking of NMIs - Support for virtualizing Linear Address Masking (LAM) - Fix a variety of vPMU bugs where KVM fail to stop/reset counters and other state prior to refreshing the vPMU model. - Fix a double-overflow PMU bug by tracking emulated counter events using a dedicated field instead of snapshotting the "previous" counter. If the hardware PMC count triggers overflow that is recognized in the same VM-Exit that KVM manually bumps an event count, KVM would pend PMIs for both the hardware-triggered overflow and for KVM-triggered overflow. - Turn off KVM_WERROR by default for all configs so that it's not inadvertantly enabled by non-KVM developers, which can be problematic for subsystems that require no regressions for W=1 builds. - Advertise all of the host-supported CPUID bits that enumerate IA32_SPEC_CTRL "features". - Don't force a masterclock update when a vCPU synchronizes to the current TSC generation, as updating the masterclock can cause kvmclock's time to "jump" unexpectedly, e.g. when userspace hotplugs a pre-created vCPU. - Use RIP-relative address to read kvm_rebooting in the VM-Enter fault paths, partly as a super minor optimization, but mostly to make KVM play nice with position independent executable builds. - Guard KVM-on-HyperV's range-based TLB flush hooks with an #ifdef on CONFIG_HYPERV as a minor optimization, and to self-document the code. - Add CONFIG_KVM_HYPERV to allow disabling KVM support for HyperV "emulation" at build time. ARM64: - LPA2 support, adding 52bit IPA/PA capability for 4kB and 16kB base granule sizes. Branch shared with the arm64 tree. - Large Fine-Grained Trap rework, bringing some sanity to the feature, although there is more to come. 2023-11-14KVM: selftests: Introduce VM "shape" to allow tests to specify the VM typeSean Christopherson
Add a "vm_shape" structure to encapsulate the selftests-defined "mode", along with the KVM-defined "type" for use when creating a new VM. "mode" tracks physical and virtual address properties, as well as the preferred backing memory type, while "type" corresponds to the VM type. Taking the VM type will allow adding tests for KVM_CREATE_GUEST_MEMFD without needing an entirely separate set of helpers. At this time, guest_memfd is effectively usable only by confidential VM types in the form of guest private memory, and it's expected that x86 will double down and require unique VM types for TDX and SNP guests. It looks like a mistake to issue ISB *after* reading PAR_EL1, we should instead perform it between the AT instruction and the reads of PAR_EL1. As according to DDI0487J.a IJTYVP, "When an address translation instruction is executed, explicit synchronization is required to guarantee the result is visible to subsequent direct reads of PAR_EL1." 2023-10-24KVM: selftests: aarch64: Introduce vpmu_counter_access testReiji Watanabe
Introduce vpmu_counter_access test for arm64 platforms. The test configures PMUv3 for a vCPU, sets PMCR_EL0.N for the vCPU, and check if the guest can consistently see the same number of the PMU event counters (PMCR_EL0.N) that userspace sets. This test case is done with each of the PMCR_EL0.N values from 0 to 31 (With the PMCR_EL0.N values greater than the host value, the test expects KVM_SET_ONE_REG for the PMCR_EL0 to fail). 2023-08-09KVM: arm64: selftests: Split get-reg-list test codeAndrew Jones
Split the arch-neutral test code out of aarch64/get-reg-list.c into get-reg-list.c. To do this we invent a new make variable $(SPLIT_TESTS) which expects common parts to be in the KVM selftests root and the counterparts to have the same name, but be in $(ARCH_DIR). There's still some work to be done to de-aarch64 the common get-reg-list.c, but we leave that to the next patch to avoid modifying too much code while moving it. 2023-08-08KVM: arm64: selftests: Delete core_reg_fixupAndrew Jones
core_reg_fixup() complicates sharing the get-reg-list test with other architectures. Rather than work at keeping it, with plenty of #ifdeffery, just delete it, as it's unlikely to test a kernel based on anything older than v5.2 with the get-reg-list test, which is a test meant to check for regressions in new kernels. (And, an older version of the test can still be used for older kernels if necessary.) Rename vcpu_config to vcpu_reg_list to be more specific and add it to kvm_util.h. This is a step in the direction of sharing most of the get- reg-list test code between architectures. The original author of aarch64/get-reg-list.c (me) was wearing tunnel vision goggles when implementing str_with_index(). There's no reason to have such a special case string function. Instead, take inspiration from glib and implement strdup_printf. The implementation builds on vasprintf() which requires _GNU_SOURCE, but we require _GNU_SOURCE in most files already. 2023-03-30KVM: arm64: selftests: Deal with spurious timer interruptsMarc Zyngier
Make sure the timer test can properly handle a spurious timer interrupt, something that is far from being unlikely. This involves checking for the GIC IAR return value (don't bother handling the interrupt if it was spurious) as well as the timer control register (don't do anything if the interrupt is masked or the timer disabled). Take this opportunity to rewrite the timer handler in a more readable way. This solves a bunch of failures that creep up on systems that are slow to retire the interrupt, something that the GIC architecture makes no guarantee about. Only Stage1 Page table walks (S1PTW) writing a PTE on an unmapped page should result in a userfaultfd write. However, the userfaultfd tests in page_fault_test wrongly assert that any S1PTW is a PTE write. Fix this by relaxing the read vs. write checks in all userfaultfd handlers. Note that this is also an attempt to focus less on KVM (and userfaultfd) behavior, and more on architectural behavior. Also note that after commit 406504c7b040 ("KVM: arm64: Fix S1PTW handling on RO memslots"), the userfaultfd fault (S1PTW with AF on an unmaped PTE page) is actually a read: the translation fault that comes before the permission fault.
