2018-06-01xhci: Add quirk to zero 64bit registers on Renesas PCIe controllersMarc Zyngier
Some Renesas controllers get into a weird state if they are reset while programmed with 64bit addresses (they will preserve the top half of the address in internal, non visible registers). You end up with half the address coming from the kernel, and the other half coming from the firmware. Also, changing the programming leads to extra accesses even if the controller is supposed to be halted. The controller ends up with a fatal fault, and is then ripe for being properly reset. On the flip side, this is completely unsafe if the defvice isn't behind an IOMMU, so we have to make sure that this is the case. Can you say "broken"? This is an alternative method to the one introduced in 8466489ef5ba ("xhci: Reset Renesas uPD72020x USB controller for 32-bit DMA issue"), which will subsequently be removed. 2018-06-01xhci: Allow more than 32 quirksMarc Zyngier
We now have 32 different quirks, and the field that holds them is full. Let's bump it up to the next stage so that we can handle some more... The type is now an unsigned long long, which is 64bit on most architectures. We take this opportunity to change the quirks from using (1 << x) to BIT_ULL(x). 2018-06-01usb: xhci: force all memory allocations to nodeAdam Wallis
The xhci driver forces DMA memory to be node aware, however, there are several ring-related memory allocations that are not memory node aware. This patch resolves those *alloc functions to be allocated on the proper memory node. 2018-06-01ASoC: Intel: kbl: Move codec sysclk config to codec_init functionMac Chiang
On APL, commit fd0f237572ad ("ASoC: Intel: bxt: Move codec sysclk config to codec_init function") fixed an issue related to jack detection. The MCLK for DA7219 does not change in this platform, but is currently being configured everytime as part of the platform_clock event handler for DAPM. The upshot of this is that we have unnecessary calls to this function, and it also means that if a stream hasn't yet been started, DA7219 driver does not have the correct MCLK rates programmed and so the HP detection feature does not operate as expected. The same fix is needed on KBL. This patch rectifies this issue by moving the sysclk call to codec_init function so it's only called once at initialisation. 2018-06-01ASoC: simple-card: set cpu dai clk in hw_paramsDaniel Mack
The simple-card driver currently accepts a clock node in the cpu dai sub-node and only uses it as an alternative to the 'system-clock-frequency' property to get the current frequency. This patch adds another use of the passed clock node. If mclk-fs is specified, the clocks in cpu and codec dai sub-nodes will be set to the calculated rate (stream rate * mclk_fs) in hw_params. This allows platforms to pass tuneable clocks as phandle that will automatically be set to the right rates. 2018-06-01ALSA: hda - Handle kzalloc() failure in snd_hda_attach_pcm_stream()Bo Chen
When 'kzalloc()' fails in 'snd_hda_attach_pcm_stream()', a new pcm instance is created without setting its operators via 'snd_pcm_set_ops()'. Following operations on the new pcm instance can trigger kernel null pointer dereferences and cause kernel oops. This bug was found with my work on building a gray-box fault-injection tool for linux-kernel-module binaries. A kernel null pointer dereference was confirmed from line 'substream->ops->open()' in function 'snd_pcm_open_substream()' in file 'sound/core/pcm_native.c'. This patch fixes the bug by calling 'snd_device_free()' in the error handling path of 'kzalloc()', which removes the new pcm instance from the snd card before returns with an error code. 2018-05-31ixgbe: fix parsing of TC actions for HW offloadOndřej Hlavatý
The previous code was optimistic, accepting the offload of whole action chain when there was a single known action (drop/redirect). This results in offloading a rule which should not be offloaded, because its behavior cannot be reproduced in the hardware. For example: $ tc filter add dev eno1 parent ffff: protocol ip \ u32 ht 800: order 1 match tcp src 42 FFFF \ action mirred egress mirror dev enp1s16 pipe \ drop The controller is unable to mirror the packet to a VF, but still offloads the rule by dropping the packet. Change the approach of the function to a pessimistic one, rejecting the chain when an unknown action is found. This is better suited for future extensions. Note that both recognized actions always return TC_ACT_SHOT, therefore it is safe to ignore actions behind them. 2018-06-01kbuild: add machine size to CHECKFLAGSLuc Van Oostenryck
By default, sparse assumes a 64bit machine when compiled on x86-64 and 32bit when compiled on anything else. This can of course create all sort of problems for the other archs, like issuing false warnings ('shift too big (32) for type unsigned long'), or worse, failing to emit legitimate warnings. Fix this by adding the -m32/-m64 flag, depending on CONFIG_64BIT, to CHECKFLAGS in the main Makefile (and so for all archs). Also, remove the now unneeded -m32/-m64 in arch specific Makefiles. Separate out all the 4 byte rfc1002 headers so that they are no longer part of the SMB2 header structures to prepare for future work to add compounding support. Update the smb3 transform header processing that we no longer have a rfc1002 header at the start of this structure. Update smb2_readv_callback to accommodate that the first iovector in the response is no the smb2 header and no longer a rfc1002 header. When the underscan state was changed, atomic-check was triggering a validation but passing the old underscan values. This change adds a somewhat hacky check in dm_update_crtcs_state that will update the stream if old and newunderscan values are different. Change bdev_dax_supported so it takes a bdev parameter. This enables multi-device filesystems like xfs to check that a dax device can work for the particular filesystem. Once that's in place, actually fix all the parts of XFS where we need to be able to distinguish between datadev and rtdev. This test runs several tests on a device specified in the -b <busid> argument and path to the usbip tools. usbip_test.sh -b <busid> -p <usbip tools path> e.g: cd tools/testing selftests/drivers/usb/usbip sudo ./usbip_test.sh -b 3-10.2 -p <yoursrctree>/tools/usb/usbip This test should be run as root and user should build usbip tools before running the test. The usbip test isn't included in the Kselftest run as it requires user to specify a device to run tests on. 2018-05-31libata: Drop SanDisk SD7UB3Q*G1001 NOLPM quirkHans de Goede
Commit 184add2ca23c ("libata: Apply NOLPM quirk for SanDisk SD7UB3Q*G1001 SSDs") disabled LPM for SanDisk SD7UB3Q*G1001 SSDs. This has lead to several reports of users of that SSD where LPM was working fine and who know have a significantly increased idle power consumption on their laptops. Likely there is another problem on the T450s from the original reporter which gets exposed by the uncore reaching deeper sleep states (higher PC-states) due to LPM being enabled. The problem as reported, a hardfreeze about once a day, already did not sound like it would be caused by LPM and the reports of the SSD working fine confirm this. The original reporter is ok with dropping the quirk. A X250 user has reported the same hard freeze problem and for him the problem went away after unrelated updates, I suspect some GPU driver stack changes fixed things. TL;DR: The original reporters problem were triggered by LPM but not an LPM issue, so drop the quirk for the SSD in question. 2018-05-31block, bfq: prevent soft_rt_next_start from being stuck at infinityDavide Sapienza
BFQ can deem a bfq_queue as soft real-time only if the queue - periodically becomes completely idle, i.e., empty and with no still-outstanding I/O request; - after becoming idle, gets new I/O only after a special reference time soft_rt_next_start. In this respect, after commit "block, bfq: consider also past I/O in soft real-time detection", the value of soft_rt_next_start can never decrease. This causes a problem with the following special updating case for soft_rt_next_start: to prevent queues that are not completely idle to be wrongly detected as soft real-time (when they become non-empty again), soft_rt_next_start is temporarily set to infinity for empty queues with still outstanding I/O requests. But, if such an update is actually performed, then, because of the above commit, soft_rt_next_start will be stuck at infinity forever, and the queue will have no more chance to be considered soft real-time. On slow systems, this problem does cause actual soft real-time applications to be occasionally not detected as such. This commit addresses this issue by eliminating the pushing of soft_rt_next_start to infinity, and by changing the way non-empty queues are prevented from being wrongly detected as soft real-time. Simply, a queue that becomes non-empty again can now be detected as soft real-time only if it has no outstanding I/O request. 2018-05-31block, bfq: increase weight-raising duration for interactive appsDavide Sapienza
The maximum possible duration of the weight-raising period for interactive applications is limited to 13 seconds, as this is the time needed to load the largest application that we considered when tuning weight raising. Unfortunately, in such an evaluation, we did not consider the case of very slow virtual machines. For example, on a QEMU/KVM virtual machine - running in a slow PC; - with a virtual disk stacked on a slow low-end 5400rpm HDD; - serving a heavy I/O workload, such as the sequential reading of several files; mplayer takes 23 seconds to start, if constantly weight-raised. To address this issue, this commit conservatively sets the upper limit for weight-raising duration to 25 seconds. 2018-05-31block, bfq: remove slow-system classPaolo Valente
BFQ computes the duration of weight raising for interactive applications automatically, using some reference parameters. In particular, BFQ uses the best durations (see comments in the code for how these durations have been assessed) for two classes of systems: slow and fast ones. Examples of slow systems are old phones or systems using micro HDDs. Fast systems are all the remaining ones. Using these parameters, BFQ computes the actual duration of the weight raising, for the system at hand, as a function of the relative speed of the system w.r.t. the speed of a reference system, belonging to the same class of systems as the system at hand. This slow vs fast differentiation proved to be useful in the past, but happens to have little meaning with current hardware. Even worse, it does cause problems in virtual systems, where the speed of the system can vary frequently, and so widely to just confuse the class-detection mechanism, and, as we have verified experimentally, to cause BFQ to compute non-sensical weight-raising durations. The request rq passed to the function bfq_requests_merged is always in a bfq_queue, so the check !RB_EMPTY_NODE(&rq->rb_node) at the beginning of bfq_requests_merged always succeeds, and the control flow systematically skips to the end of the function. This implies that the body of the function is never executed, i.e., the repositioning of rq is never performed. On the opposite end, a control is missing in the body of the function: 'next' must be removed only if it is inside a bfq_queue. This commit removes the wrong check on rq, and adds the missing check on 'next'. In addition, this commit adds comments on bfq_requests_merged. In bfq_requests_merged(), there is a deadlock because the lock on bfqq->bfqd->lock is held by the calling function, but the code of this function tries to grab the lock again. This deadlock is currently hidden by another bug (fixed by next commit for this source file), which causes the body of bfq_requests_merged() to be never executed. This commit removes the deadlock by removing the lock/unlock pair.
