Carlos was getting WARNING: at drivers/pci/pci.c:118 pci_ioremap_bar+0x24/0x52() when probing his sound card, and sound did not work. After adding pci=use_crs to the kernel command line, no more trouble. Ok, we can add a quirk. dmidecode output reveals that this is an MSI MS-7253, for which we already have a quirk, but the short-sighted author tied the quirk to a single BIOS version, making it not kick in on Carlos's machine with BIOS V1.2. If a later BIOS update makes it no longer necessary to look at the _CRS info it will still be harmless, so let's stop trying to guess which versions have and don't have accurate _CRS tables. Here's what it contains: For am5536udc we have just simple coding style fixes. Nothing that has any potential to cause any issues going forward. With mv_udc, there's only one single change removing an unneeded NULL check. at91_udc also only saw a single change this merge window, and that's only removing a duplicated header. The Renesas controller has a few more involved changes. Support for SUDMAC was added, there's now a special handling of IRQ resources for when the IRQ line is shared between Renesas controller and SUDMAC, we also had a bug fix where Renesas controller would sleep in atomic context while doing DMA transfers from a tasklet. There were also a set of minor cleanups. The FSL UDC also had a scheduling in atomic context bug fix, but that's all. Thanks to Sebastian, the dummy_hcd now works better than ever with support for scatterlists and streams. Sebastian also added SuperSpeed descriptors to the serial gadgets. The highlight on this merge is the addition of a generic API for mapping and unmapping usb_requests. This will avoid code duplication on all UDC controllers and also kills all the defines for DMA_ADDR_INVALID which UDC controllers sprinkled around. Per cgroup load-balance has numerous problems, chief amongst them that there is no real sane order in them. So stop pretending it makes sense and enqueue all tasks on a single list. This also allows us to more easily fix the fwd progress issue uncovered by the lock-break stuff. Rotate the list on failure to migreate and limit the total iterations to nr_running (which with releasing the lock isn't strictly accurate but close enough). Also add a filter that skips very light tasks on the first attempt around the list, this attempts to avoid shooting whole cgroups around without affecting over balance. 2012-03-01memblock: Fix size aligning of memblock_alloc_base_nid()Tejun Heo
memblock allocator aligns @size to @align to reduce the amount of fragmentation. Commit: 7bd0b0f0da ("memblock: Reimplement memblock allocation using reverse free area iterator") Broke it by incorrectly relocating @size aligning to memblock_find_in_range_node(). As the aligned size is not propagated back to memblock_alloc_base_nid(), the actually reserved size isn't aligned. While this increases memory use for memblock reserved array, this shouldn't cause any critical failure; however, it seems that the size aligning was hiding a use-beyond-allocation bug in sparc64 and losing the aligning causes boot failure. The underlying problem is currently being debugged but this is a proper fix in itself, it's already pretty late in -rc cycle for boot failures and reverting the change for debugging isn't difficult. 2012-03-01sched/rt: Prevent idle task boostingThomas Gleixner
Idle task boosting is a nono in general. There is one exception, when PREEMPT_RT and NOHZ is active: The idle task calls get_next_timer_interrupt() and holds the timer wheel base->lock on the CPU and another CPU wants to access the timer (probably to cancel it). We can safely ignore the boosting request, as the idle CPU runs this code with interrupts disabled and will complete the lock protected section without being interrupted. So there is no real need to boost. When a runqueue has rt_runtime_us = 0 then the only way it can accumulate rt_time is via PI boosting. That causes the runqueue to be throttled and replenishing does not change anything due to rt_runtime_us = 0. So avoid that situation by clearing rt_time and skip the throttling alltogether. When a runqueue is throttled we cannot disable the period timer because that timer is the only way to undo the throttling. We got stale throttling entries when a rq was throttled and then the global sysctl was disabled, which stopped the timer. Commit b27b072791dc (ARM: 7265/1: restart: S3C24XX: use new restart hook) introduced the new restart hook also for the S3C244x cpus, but it was only defined in the S3C2440 scope, i.e. when CPU_S3C2440 was selected. Devices using the S3C2442 like the GTA02 normally don't select this CPU which leads to compilation errors like: LD .tmp_vmlinux1 arch/arm/mach-s3c2440/built-in.o:(.arch.info.init+0x3c): undefined reference to `s3c2440_restart' make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1 Therefore move the s3c2440_restart function to s3c244x.c which is common to both cpus and also fix the naming to reflect this. In commit c6dc001 "staging: r8712u: Merging Realtek's latest (v2.6.6). Various fixes", the returned qual.qual member of the iw_statistics struct was changed. For strong signals, this change made no difference; however for medium and weak signals it results in a low signal that shows considerable fluctuation, When using wicd for a medium-strength AP, the value reported in the status line is reduced from 100% to 60% by this bug. 2012-02-29staging: r8712u: Fix regression introduced by commit a5ee652Larry Finger
In commit a5ee652 "staging: r8712u: Interface-state not fully tracked", the private boolean "bup" was set false when the interface was brought down, as that seemed appropriate. This change has not caused any problems when using NetworkManager or manual control of the device; however, when wicd control is used, there is a locking problem in wpa_supplicant, as shown in https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42818. This fix reverts the only code change in commit a5ee652. My analysis is that "bup" is badly named. In its present form, it seems to indicate the up/down state of the device, but its usage is more consistent with an initialized/uninitialized state. That problem will be addressed in a later patch. Note: Commit 8c213fa, which introdued asynchronous firmware loading for this driver, exposed this bug to a greater extent. That bug is addressed in the next patch in this series. This bug is also responsible for the bug in https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42815. and this bug is also part of the problems discussed at https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/27996#comment89950. In commit 1ca1a92cc6 "Staging: wlan-ng: memsetting the wrong amount of data" I changed the code so we didn't memset() past the end of the msg1.bssid.data[] array. Walter Harms noticed that it was weird that we were setting the len to 6 when there were 7 elements in the array. Pavel Roskin pointed out that the intent of the code was actually to memset() msg1.bssid.data.data[] which is a 6 character array. In the crystalhd_cmds.h there was a struct dependence bug: the struct crystalhd_adp (which is declared on crystalhd_lnx.h) is used on the crystalhd_cmd struct, however the crystalhd_lnx.h is never included on crystalhd_cmds.h at all. Including the crystalhd_lnx.h on crystalhd_cmds.h breaks the build, many dependencies error occurrs, most of the type "error: 'struct bar' has no member named 'foo'", so I decided to reorganize the headers by adding a global header. The gobal header crystalhd.h includes all the local headers. The idea is that the crystalhd header will be the only included by the others files, this will avoid the mess of many #include levels. The order of the headers included by crystalhd.h considers the dependencies among the headers. This fixes a type mismatch in the compression code where a size_t pointer was cast to a unsigned int pointer. On little endian archs, there is no issue. However on big endian archs, the value is incorrect, taking the high order bits and truncating the lower order bits.
