Use a local variable for the iobase of the channel being written. This makes the outw() calls a bit cleaner. Rearrange the switch () so that the actual write to the device can be common regardless of the gpct configuration. Use a local variable for the iobase of the channel being read. This makes the inw() calls a bit cleaner. Move the masking of the read data to make the value stored in the data array a bit clearer. The comedi core expects insn_read functions to return the number of insn data values read. For this function, the final value of 'i' is correct but change the return to 'insn->n' just to make it clear. 2012-09-21staging: comedi: s526: don't dereference insn->data pointerH Hartley Sweeten
The comedi_insn 'data' pointer is a __user pointer that is passed into the kernel using an ioctl. The comedi core copies this data to kernel space in do_insnlist_ioctl() and then passes that kernel data to the drivers as a separate parameter. The drivers never need to access the data through the insn->data pointer. 2012-09-21staging: drm/imx: add i.MX IPUv3 base driverSascha Hauer
The IPU is the Image Processing Unit found on i.MX51/53/6 SoCs. It features several units for image processing, this patch adds support for the units needed for Framebuffer support, namely: - Display Controller (dc) - Display Interface (di) - Display Multi Fifo Controller (dmfc) - Display Processor (dp) - Image DMA Controller (idmac) This patch is based on the Freescale driver, but follows a different approach. The Freescale code implements logical idmac channels and the handling of the subunits is hidden in common idmac code pathes in big switch/case statements. This patch instead just provides code and resource management for the different subunits. The user, in this case the framebuffer driver, decides how the different units play together. the dc_init_descriptor_list actually returns a +ve error return codes, which is abnormal as other functions in kernel return -ve error codes on failure. so replace the return codes of this function with -ve values to make the consistency with the other functions in kernel. 2012-09-21frontswap: support exclusive gets if tmem backend is capableDan Magenheimer
Tmem, as originally specified, assumes that "get" operations performed on persistent pools never flush the page of data out of tmem on a successful get, waiting instead for a flush operation. This is intended to mimic the model of a swap disk, where a disk read is non-destructive. Unlike a disk, however, freeing up the RAM can be valuable. Over the years that frontswap was in the review process, several reviewers (and notably Hugh Dickins in 2010) pointed out that this would result, at least temporarily, in two copies of the data in RAM: one (compressed for zcache) copy in tmem, and one copy in the swap cache. We wondered if this could be done differently, at least optionally. This patch allows tmem backends to instruct the frontswap code that this backend performs exclusive gets. Zcache2 already contains hooks to support this feature. Other backends are completely unaffected unless/until they are updated to support this feature. While it is not clear that exclusive gets are a performance win on all workloads at all times, this small patch allows for experimentation by backends. P.S. Let's not quibble about the naming of "get" vs "read" vs "load" etc. The naming is currently horribly inconsistent between cleancache and frontswap and existing tmem backends, so will need to be straightened out as a separate patch. "Get" is used by the tmem architecture spec, existing backends, and all documentation and presentation material so I am using it in this patch. 2012-09-21xen/gndev: Xen backend support for paged out grant targets V4.Andres Lagar-Cavilla
Since Xen-4.2, hvm domains may have portions of their memory paged out. When a foreign domain (such as dom0) attempts to map these frames, the map will initially fail. The hypervisor returns a suitable errno, and kicks an asynchronous page-in operation carried out by a helper. The foreign domain is expected to retry the mapping operation until it eventually succeeds. The foreign domain is not put to sleep because itself could be the one running the pager assist (typical scenario for dom0). This patch adds support for this mechanism for backend drivers using grant mapping and copying operations. Specifically, this covers the blkback and gntdev drivers (which map foreign grants), and the netback driver (which copies foreign grants). * Add a retry method for grants that fail with GNTST_eagain (i.e. because the target foreign frame is paged out). * Insert hooks with appropriate wrappers in the aforementioned drivers. The retry loop is only invoked if the grant operation status is GNTST_eagain. It guarantees to leave a new status code different from GNTST_eagain. Any other status code results in identical code execution as before. The retry loop performs 256 attempts with increasing time intervals through a 32 second period. It uses msleep to yield while waiting for the next retry.
