Previously we used PCI_MSI_FLAGS to locate a register in the MSI-X capability. This did work because the MSI and MSI-X flags happen to be at the same offsets, but was confusing. 2013-04-18ARM: highbank: fix cache flush ordering for cpu hotplugRob Herring
The L1 data cache flush needs to be after highbank_set_cpu_jump call which pollutes the cache with the l2x0_lock. This causes other cores to deadlock waiting for the l2x0_lock. Moving the flush of the entire data cache after highbank_set_cpu_jump fixes the problem. Use flush_cache_louis instead of flush_cache_all are that is sufficient to flush only the L1 data cache. flush_cache_louis did not exist when highbank_cpu_die was originally written. With PL310 errata 769419 enabled, a wmb is inserted into idle which takes the l2x0_lock. This makes the problem much more easily hit and causes reset to hang. 2013-04-18kprobes: Fix a double lock bug of kprobe_mutexMasami Hiramatsu
Fix a double locking bug caused when debug.kprobe-optimization=0. While the proc_kprobes_optimization_handler locks kprobe_mutex, wait_for_kprobe_optimizer locks it again and that causes a double lock. To fix the bug, this introduces different mutex for protecting sysctl parameter and locks it in proc_kprobes_optimization_handler. Of course, since we need to lock kprobe_mutex when touching kprobes resources, that is done in *optimize_all_kprobes(). 2013-04-18dmaengine: at_hdmac: fix race condition in atc_advance_work()Ludovic Desroches
The BUG_ON() directive is triggered probably due to a latency modification following inclusion of commit c10d73671ad3 ("softirq: reduce latencies"). This condition has not been met before 3.9-rc1 and doesn't trigger without this patch. We now make sure that DMA channel is idle before calling atc_complete_all() which makes the BUG_ON() "protection" useless. Passing a pointer to the dentry name, as a parameter to process_measurement(), causes a race condition with rename() and is unnecessary, as the dentry name is already accessible via the file parameter. In the normal case, we use the full pathname as provided by brpm->filename, bprm->interp, or ima_d_path(). Only on ima_d_path() failure, do we fallback to using the d_name.name, which points either to external memory or d_iname. 2013-04-17hugetlbfs: add swap entry check in follow_hugetlb_page()Naoya Horiguchi
With applying the previous patch "hugetlbfs: stop setting VM_DONTDUMP in initializing vma(VM_HUGETLB)" to reenable hugepage coredump, if a memory error happens on a hugepage and the affected processes try to access the error hugepage, we hit VM_BUG_ON(atomic_read(&page->_count) <= 0) in get_page(). The reason for this bug is that coredump-related code doesn't recognise "hugepage hwpoison entry" with which a pmd entry is replaced when a memory error occurs on a hugepage. In other words, physical address information is stored in different bit layout between hugepage hwpoison entry and pmd entry, so follow_hugetlb_page() which is called in get_dump_page() returns a wrong page from a given address. The expected behavior is like this: absent is_swap_pte FOLL_DUMP Expected behavior ------------------------------------------------------------------- true false false hugetlb_fault false true false hugetlb_fault false false false return page true false true skip page (to avoid allocation) false true true hugetlb_fault false false true return page With this patch, we can call hugetlb_fault() and take proper actions (we wait for migration entries, fail with VM_FAULT_HWPOISON_LARGE for hwpoisoned entries,) and as the result we can dump all hugepages except for hwpoisoned ones. 2013-04-17fs/binfmt_elf.c: fix hugetlb memory check in vma_dump_size()Naoya Horiguchi
Documentation/filesystems/proc.txt says about coredump_filter bitmask, Note bit 0-4 doesn't effect any hugetlb memory. hugetlb memory are only effected by bit 5-6. However current code can go into the subsequent flag checks of bit 0-4 for vma(VM_HUGETLB). So this patch inserts 'return' and makes it work as written in the document. Currently we fail to include any data on hugepages into coredump, because VM_DONTDUMP is set on hugetlbfs's vma. This behavior was recently introduced by commit 314e51b9851b ("mm: kill vma flag VM_RESERVED and mm->reserved_vm counter"). This looks to me a serious regression, so let's fix it. hotkey_kthread() does try_to_freeze() under hotkey_thread_mutex. We can simply kill this mutex, hotkey_poll_stop_sync() does not need to serialize with hotkey_kthread(). When kthread_stop() returns the thread is already dead, it called do_exit()->complete_vfork_done(). Chao said that kdump does does work well on his system on 3.8 without extra parameter, even iommu does not work with kdump. And now have to append crashkernel_low=Y in first kernel to make kdump work. We have now modified crashkernel=X to allocate memory beyong 4G (if available) and do not allocate low range for crashkernel if the user does not specify that with crashkernel_low=Y. This causes regression if iommu is not enabled. Without iommu, swiotlb needs to be setup in first 4G and there is no low memory available to second kernel. Set crashkernel_low automatically if the user does not specify that. tick_oneshot_notify() is used to notify a particular CPU to try to switch into oneshot mode after a oneshot capable tick device is registered and tick_clock_notify() is used to notify all CPUs to try to switch into oneshot mode after a high res clocksource is registered. There is one caveat; if the tick devices suffer from FEAT_C3_STOP we don't try to switch into oneshot mode unless we have a oneshot capable broadcast device already registered. If the broadcast device is registered after the tick devices that have FEAT_C3_STOP we'll never try to switch into oneshot mode again, causing us to be stuck in periodic mode forever. Avoid this scenario by calling tick_clock_notify() after we register the broadcast device so that we try to switch into oneshot mode on all CPUs one more time. 2013-04-17timer_list: Convert timer list to be a proper seq_fileNathan Zimmer
When running with 4096 cores attemping to read /proc/timer_list will fail with an ENOMEM condition. On a sufficantly large systems the total amount of data is more then 4mb, so it won't fit into a single buffer. The failure can also occur on smaller systems when memory fragmentation is high as reported by Dave Jones. Convert /proc/timer_list to a proper seq_file with its own iterator. This is a little more complex given that we have to make two passes with two separate headers. sysrq_timer_list_show also needed to be updated to reflect the fact that now timer_list_show only does one cpu at at time. Previous patch added proc file to list posix timers created by task. Expand the information provided in this file by adding info about notification method, with which timers were created. I.e. after the "ID:" line there go 1. "signal:" line, that shows signal number and sigval bits; 2. "notify:" line, that shows the timer notification method. Thus the timer entry would looke like this: ID: 123 signal: 14/0000000000b005d0 notify: signal/pid.732 This information is enough to understand how timer_create() was called for each particular timer. 2013-04-17posix-timers: Introduce /proc/PID/timers filePavel Emelyanov
Currently kernel doesn't provide any API for getting info about what posix timers are configured by processes. It's implied, that a process which configured some timers, knows what it did. However, for external tools it's impossible to get this information. In particular, this is critical for checkpoint-restore project to have this info. Introduce a per-pid proc file with information about posix timers. Since these timers are shared between threads, this file is present on tgid level only, no such thing in tid subdirs. The file format is expected to be the "/proc/<pid>/smaps"-like, i.e. each timer will occupy seveal lines to allow for future extending. Each new timer entry starts with the ID: <number> line which is added by this patch. 2013-04-17posix timers: Allocate timer id per process (v2)Pavel Emelyanov
Currently kernel generates IDs for posix timers in a global manner -- there's a kernel-wide IDR tree from which IDs are created. This makes it impossible to recreate a timer with a desired ID (in particular this is done by the CRIU checkpoint-restore project) -- since these IDs are global it may happen, that at the time we recreate a timer, the ID we want for it is already busy by some other timer. In order to address this, replace the IDR tree with a global hash table for timers and makes timer IDs unique per signal_struct (to which timers are linked anyway). With this, two timers belonging to different processes may have equal IDs and we can recreate either of them with the ID we want. The comedi_subdevice 'private' variable is a void * that is available for the subdevice to use in manner. It's common in comedi drivers for the driver to allocate memory for a subdevice and store the pointer to that memory in the 'private' variable. It's then the responsibility of the driver to free that memory when the device is detached. Due to how the attach/detach works in comedi, the drivers need to do some sanity checking before they can free the allocated memory during the detach. Introduce a helper function, comedi_spriv_free(), to handle freeing the private data allocated for a subdevice. This allows moving all the sanity checks into the helper function and makes it safe to call with any context. It also allows removing some of the boilerplate code in the (*detach) functions. Remove the subdev_8255_cleanup() export in the 8255 subdevice driver as well as the addi_watchdog_cleanup() export in the addi_watchdog driver and use the new helper instead. The amplc_dio200_common driver uses a number of local helper functions to free the private data for it's subdevices. Remove those as well and use the new helper. In the subdevice init during the attach of this driver, private data is allocated for each subdevice. The pointer to this data is then saved in the subdevice 's->private' so it can be free'ed during the detach. In __unioxx5_subdev_init() an error path exists that can happen before the allocated pointer is saved in s->private. Make sure the allocated memory is free'ed before returning the error.
