2016-07-15s390/chsc: sanitize fmt check for chp_desc determinationSebastian Ott
When fetching channel path descriptors we've only evaluated the rfmt parameter which could lead us to trigger the chsc even though the machine doesn't support the specific format or to not trigger the chsc and report a failure to userspace even though the machine would've supported it. Improve these checks and change the parameters of the in-kernel user to be less confusing. 2016-07-15s390/cio: make fmt1 channel path descriptor optionalSebastian Ott
Not all machines / hypervisors support the chsc commands to fetch the fmt1 descriptor. When these commands fail the channel path would currently not be available to linux. Since users of these descriptors can already deal with invalid data make fetching it optional. The only data that is mandatory for us is the fmt0 channel path descriptor. Also make the return code for missing facilities in chsc_get_channel_measurement_chars consistent to other functions. 2016-07-15cgroupns: Only allow creation of hierarchies in the initial cgroup namespaceEric W. Biederman
Unprivileged users can't use hierarchies if they create them as they do not have privilieges to the root directory. Which means the only thing a hiearchy created by an unprivileged user is good for is expanding the number of cgroup links in every css_set, which is a DOS attack. We could allow hierarchies to be created in namespaces in the initial user namespace. Unfortunately there is only a single namespace for the names of heirarchies, so that is likely to create more confusion than not. 2016-07-15cgroupns: Close race between cgroup_post_fork and copy_cgroup_nsEric W. Biederman
In most code paths involving cgroup migration cgroup_threadgroup_rwsem is taken. There are two exceptions: - remove_tasks_in_empty_cpuset calls cgroup_transfer_tasks - vhost_attach_cgroups_work calls cgroup_attach_task_all With cgroup_threadgroup_rwsem held it is guaranteed that cgroup_post_fork and copy_cgroup_ns will reference the same css_set from the process calling fork. Without such an interlock there process after fork could reference one css_set from it's new cgroup namespace and another css_set from task->cgroups, which semantically is nonsensical. If "clone(CLONE_NEWCGROUP...)" is called it results in a nice lockdep valid splat. In __cgroup_proc_write the lock ordering is: cgroup_mutex -- through cgroup_kn_lock_live cgroup_threadgroup_rwsem In copy_process the guts of clone the lock ordering is: cgroup_threadgroup_rwsem -- through threadgroup_change_begin cgroup_mutex -- through copy_namespaces -- copy_cgroup_ns lockdep reports some a different call chains for the first ordering of cgroup_mutex and cgroup_threadgroup_rwsem but it is harder to trace. This is most definitely deadlock potential under the right circumstances. Fix this by by skipping the cgroup_mutex and making the locking in copy_cgroup_ns mirror the locking in cgroup_post_fork which also runs during fork under the cgroup_threadgroup_rwsem. The rst2pdf tool is a very broken toolchain, with is not capable of parsing complex documents. As such, it doesn't build the media book, failing with: [ERROR] pdfbuilder.py:130 too many values to unpack (using rst2pdf version 0.93.dev-r0 and Sphinx version 1.4.5) So, make it build only the books we know that are safe to build. 2016-07-15spi: xilinx: Handle errors from platform_get_irq()Lars-Peter Clausen
The Xilinx SPI driver can operate without an IRQ, but not every error returned by platform_get_irq() means that no IRQ was specified. It will also return an error if the IRQ specification is invalid or the IRQ provider is not yet available (EPROBE_DEFER). So instead of ignoring all errors only ignore ENXIO, which means no IRQ was specified, and propagate all other errors to device driver core. The get_cpu() in xen_starting_cpu() boils down to preempt_disable() since we already know the CPU we run on. 2016-07-15ACPI/processor: Avoid STARTING/DYING actions in a more logical wayRichard Cochran
As part of the hotplug cleanup, the CPU_STARTING/DYING actions are going away soon. This driver needlessly uses those two macro, and so this patch replaces that code with something more sensible. Commit: 8da8373447d6a57a5a9f55233d35beb15d92d0d2 ("ACPI / processor: Fix STARTING/DYING action in acpi_cpu_soft_notify()") added checks for those two actions, because the notification callback can sleep, causing a hung CPU. This patch instead checks for the ONLINE/DEAD actions, which are the ones that are handled by the driver in the first place.
