2012-10-08usb: Don't enable LPM if the exit latency is zero.Sarah Sharp
Some USB 3.0 devices signal that they don't implement Link PM by having all zeroes in the U1/U2 exit latencies in their SuperSpeed BOS descriptor. Don found that a Western Digital device he has experiences transfer errors when LPM is enabled. The lsusb shows the U1/U2 exit latencies are set to zero: Binary Object Store Descriptor: bLength 5 bDescriptorType 15 wTotalLength 22 bNumDeviceCaps 2 SuperSpeed USB Device Capability: bLength 10 bDescriptorType 16 bDevCapabilityType 3 bmAttributes 0x00 Latency Tolerance Messages (LTM) Supported wSpeedsSupported 0x000e Device can operate at Full Speed (12Mbps) Device can operate at High Speed (480Mbps) Device can operate at SuperSpeed (5Gbps) bFunctionalitySupport 1 Lowest fully-functional device speed is Full Speed (12Mbps) bU1DevExitLat 0 micro seconds bU2DevExitLat 0 micro seconds The fix is to not enable LPM for a particular link state if we find its corresponding exit latency is zero. This patch should be backported to kernels as old as 3.5, that contain the commit 1ea7e0e8e3d0f50901d335ea4178ab2aa8c88201 "USB: Add support to enable/disable USB3 link states." 2012-10-08USB: Enable LPM after a failed probe.Sarah Sharp
Before a driver is probed, we want to disable USB 3.0 Link Power Management (LPM), in case the driver needs hub-initiated LPM disabled. After the probe finishes, we want to attempt to re-enable LPM, order to balance the LPM ref count. When a probe fails (such as when libusual doesn't want to bind to a USB 3.0 mass storage device), make sure to balance the LPM ref counts by re-enabling LPM. This patch should be backported to kernels as old as 3.5, that contain the commit 8306095fd2c1100e8244c09bf560f97aca5a311d "USB: Disable USB 3.0 LPM in critical sections." Marvell 88E8001 on an ASUS P5NSLI motherboard is unable to send/receive packets on a system with >4gb ram unless a 32bit DMA mask is used. reported pmtu When a local tool like tracepath tries to send packets bigger than the device mtu, we create a nh exeption and set the pmtu to device mtu. The device mtu does not expire, so check if the device mtu is smaller than the reported pmtu and don't crerate a nh exeption in that case. Some protocols, like IPsec still cache routes. So we need to invalidate the old route on pmtu events to avoid the reuse of stale routes. We also need to update the mtu and expire time of the route if we already use a nh exception route, otherwise we ignore newly learned pmtu values after the first expiration. 2012-10-08drm/i915: paper over a pipe-enable vs pageflip raceDaniel Vetter
I've discovered this on my ivb machine while stress-testing the new flip_tests. Only harmful effect observed is that the timestamp is a bit bogus. Note that this is empirical duct-tape: I've noticed that we seem to only ever miss the very first vblank irq right after enabling the pipe. And with this hack applied I couldn't reproduce the failure case anywhere else any more. task_work_run() implementation had the side effect of enabling interrupts. With commit ac3d0da8 (task_work: Make task_work_add() lockless), interrupts are no longer enabled revealing the bug in the arch code. Extend the amount of character devices, such as eventX, mouseX and jsX, from a hard limit of 32 per input handler to about 1024 shared across all handlers. To be compatible with legacy installations input handlers will start creating char devices with minors in their legacy range, however once legacy range is exhausted they will start allocating minors from the dynamic range 256-1024. Deadlock is not an appropriate diagnostic for excessive CPU-hotplug latency. Fortunately, grace-period initialization does not actually need to exclude all of the CPU-hotplug operation, but rather only RCU's own CPU_UP_PREPARE and CPU_DEAD CPU-hotplug notifiers. This commit therefore introduces a new per-rcu_state onoff_mutex that provides the required concurrency control in place of the get_online_cpus() that was previously in rcu_gp_init(). Following commit 74838b7 (swiotlb: add the late swiotlb initialization function with iotlb memory) the swiotlb_init_with_default_size() is a static function. This patch changes the arm64 code to call swiotlb_init() instead and use the default size of 64MB. It is assumed that AArch64 platforms have enough RAM to afford the pre-allocated swiotlb memory. Pull UBI fastmap changes from Artem Bityutskiy: "This pull request contains the UBI fastmap support implemented by Richard Weinberger from Linutronix. Fastmap is designed to address UBI's slow scanning issues. Namely, it introduces a new on-flash data-structure called "fastmap", which stores the information about logical<->physical eraseblocks mappings. So now to get this information just read the fastmap, instead of doing full scan. It is partially my fault - I did not respond quickly enough. I _really_ apologize for this. But it had good testing and disabled by default, so I do not expect that we'll break anything. Fastmap is declared as experimental so far, and it is off by default. We did declare that the on-flash format may be changed. The reason for this is that no one used it in real production so far, so there is a high risk that something is missing. Besides, we do not have user-space tools supporting fastmap so far. Nevertheless, I suggest we merge this feature. Many people want UBI's scanning bottleneck to be fixed and merging fastmap now should accelerate its production use. The plan is to make it bullet-prove, somewhat clean-up, and make it the default for UBI. I do not know how many kernel releases will it take. 2012-10-08Blackfin: cpufreq: fix dpm_state_tableJames Cosin
This patch fixes an assumption that cclk's initial divisor will always be 1 (or 0 in the register). TSCALE is always initialized on startup with a value of 4 regardless of the inital cclk divisor; so, we can't make the assumption without making lots of other assumptions. The TPERIOD value is set with a value of the current cclk (value / (HZ * TSCALE)) - 1; so, we need to adjust based on this initial frequency and not use cclk's initial divisor for adjusting the tscale.
