2012-01-04ethtool: Allow drivers to select RX NFC rule locationsBen Hutchings
Define special location values for RX NFC that request the driver to select the actual rule location. This allows for implementation on devices that use hash-based filter lookup, whereas currently the API is more suited to devices with TCAM lookup or linear search. In ethtool_set_rxnfc() and the compat wrapper ethtool_ioctl(), copy the structure back to user-space after insertion so that the actual location is returned. This reverts commit 93b2ec0128c431148b216b8f7337c1a52131ef03. The call to "schedule_work()" in rtc_initialize_alarm() happens too early, and can cause oopses at bootup Neil Brown explains why we do it: "If you set an alarm in the future, then shutdown and boot again after that time, then you will end up with a timer_queue node which is in the past. When this happens the queue gets stuck. That entry-in-the-past won't get removed until and interrupt happens and an interrupt won't happen because the RTC only triggers an interrupt when the alarm is "now". So you'll find that e.g. "hwclock" will always tell you that 'select' timed out. So we force the interrupt work to happen at the start just in case." and has a patch that convert it to do things in-process rather than with the worker thread, but right now it's too late to play around with this, so we just revert the patch that caused problems for now. It appears about all functions in arch/x86/lib/atomic64_cx8_32.S are wrong in case cmpxchg8b must be restarted, because LOCK_PREFIX macro defines a label "1" clashing with other local labels : 1: some_instructions LOCK_PREFIX cmpxchg8b (%ebp) jne 1b / jumps to beginning of LOCK_PREFIX ! A possible fix is to use a magic label "672" in LOCK_PREFIX asm definition, similar to the "671" one we defined in LOCK_PREFIX_HERE. 2012-01-04x86: Fix and improve cmpxchg_double{,_local}()Jan Beulich
Just like the per-CPU ones they had several problems/shortcomings: Only the first memory operand was mentioned in the asm() operands, and the 2x64-bit version didn't have a memory clobber while the 2x32-bit one did. The former allowed the compiler to not recognize the need to re-load the data in case it had it cached in some register, while the latter was overly destructive. The types of the local copies of the old and new values were incorrect (the types of the pointed-to variables should be used here, to make sure the respective old/new variable types are compatible). The __dummy/__junk variables were pointless, given that local copies of the inputs already existed (and can hence be used for discarded outputs). The 32-bit variant of cmpxchg_double_local() referenced cmpxchg16b_local(). 2012-01-04[CIFS] default ntlmv2 for cifs mount delayed to 3.3Steve French
Turned out the ntlmv2 (default security authentication) upgrade was harder to test than expected, and we ran out of time to test against Apple and a few other servers that we wanted to. Delay upgrade of default security from ntlm to ntlmv2 (on mount) to 3.3. Still works fine to specify it explicitly via "sec=ntlmv2" so this should be fine. 2012-01-03cifs: fix bad buffer length check in coalesce_t2Jeff Layton
The current check looks to see if the RFC1002 length is larger than CIFSMaxBufSize, and fails if it is. The buffer is actually larger than that by MAX_CIFS_HDR_SIZE. This bug has been around for a long time, but the fact that we used to cap the clients MaxBufferSize at the same level as the server tended to paper over it. Commit c974befa changed that however and caused this bug to bite in more cases. This reverts commit c0afabd3d553c521e003779c127143ffde55a16f. It causes failures on Toshiba laptops - instead of disabling the alarm, it actually seems to enable it on the affected laptops, resulting in (for example) the laptop powering on automatically five minutes after shutdown. There's a patch for it that appears to work for at least some people, but it's too late to play around with this, so revert for now and try again in the next merge window. 2012-01-03net/smsc911x: Check if PHY is in operational mode before software resetJavier Martinez Canillas
SMSC LAN generation 4 chips integrate an IEEE 802.3 ethernet physical layer. The PHY driver for this integrated chip enable an energy detect power-down mode. When the PHY is in a power-down mode, it prevents the MAC portion chip to be software reseted. That means that if we compile the kernel with the configuration option SMSC_PHY enabled and try to bring the network interface up without an cable plug-ed the PHY will be in a low power mode and the software reset will fail returning -EIO to user-space: root@igep00x0:~# ifconfig eth0 up ifconfig: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Input/output error This patch disable the energy detect power-down mode before trying to software reset the LAN chip and re-enables after it was reseted successfully. 2012-01-03security: Fix security_old_inode_init_security() when CONFIG_SECURITY is not setJan Kara
Commit 1e39f384bb01 ("evm: fix build problems") makes the stub version of security_old_inode_init_security() return 0 when CONFIG_SECURITY is not set. But that makes callers such as reiserfs_security_init() assume that security_old_inode_init_security() has set name, value, and len arguments properly - but security_old_inode_init_security() left them uninitialized which then results in interesting failures. Revert security_old_inode_init_security() to the old behavior of returning EOPNOTSUPP since both callers (reiserfs and ocfs2) handle this just fine. [ Also fixed the S_PRIVATE(inode) case of the actual non-stub security_old_inode_init_security() function to return EOPNOTSUPP for the same reason, as pointed out by Mimi Zohar. If 'iw connect' command is fired when driver is already busy in serving 'iw scan' command, ssid specific scan operation for connect is skipped. In this case cmd wait queue handler gets called with no command in queue (i.e. adapter->cmd_queued = NULL). This patch adds a NULL check in mwifiex_wait_queue_complete() routine to fix crash observed during simultaneous scan and assoc operations. 2012-01-03net/davinci: do not use all descriptors for tx packetsSascha Hauer
The driver uses a shared pool for both rx and tx descriptors. During open it queues fixed number of 128 descriptors for receive packets. For each received packet it tries to queue another descriptor. If this fails the descriptor is lost for rx. The driver has no limitation on tx descriptors to use, so it can happen during a nmap / ping -f attack that the driver allocates all descriptors for tx and looses all rx descriptors. The driver stops working then. To fix this limit the number of tx descriptors used to half of the descriptors available, the rx path uses the other half. However, Kconfig uses the broader ARCH_MXS symbol and this way even makes the fec-driver default for MX23. Adapt Kconfig to use the more precise SOC_IMX28 as well. 2012-01-03sch_sfq: dont put new flow at the end of flowsEric Dumazet
SFQ enqueue algo puts a new flow _behind_ all pre-existing flows in the circular list. In fact this is probably an old SFQ implementation bug. 100 Mbits = ~8333 full frames per second, or ~8 frames per ms. With 50 flows, it means your "new flow" will have to wait 50 packets being sent before its own packet. Thats the ~6ms. We certainly can change SFQ to give a priority advantage to new flows, so that next dequeued packet is taken from a new flow, not an old one. If slave device already has a receive handler registered, then the error unwind of bonding device enslave function is broken. Rx mode should be reset after resming, so unconditionally updating rx mode rather than conditionally updating based on the value we remembered, otherwise unexpected value may be used by the nic after resuming. btw. I find and test this when debugging guest hibernation in qemu, as I did not have a 8139cp card in hand, this patch is untested in a physical 8139cp card, plase review it carefully. This prevents the core driver from calling its callback again if pl330_release_channel() is called without first flushing the device.
