In the TT_RESPONSE packet, the number of carried entries is not correctly set. This leads to a wrong interpretation of the packet payload on the receiver side causing random entries to be added to the global translation table. Some Stellaris evaluation kits have the JTAG/SWD FTDI chip onboard, and some, like EK-LM3S9B90, come with a separate In-Circuit Debugger Interface Board. The ICDI board can also be used stand-alone, for other boards and chips than the kit it came with. The ICDI has both old style 20-pin JTAG connector and new style JTAG/SWD 10-pin 1.27mm pitch connector. Tested with EK-LM3S9B90, where the BD-ICDI board is included. 2011-10-18USB: Fix runtime wakeup on OHCIMatthew Garrett
At least some OHCI hardware (such as the MCP89) fails to flag any change in the host status register or the port status registers when receiving a remote wakeup while in D3 state. This results in the controller being resumed but no device state change being noticed, at which point the controller is put back to sleep again. Since there doesn't seem to be any reliable way to identify the state change, just unconditionally resume the hub. It'll be put back to sleep in the near future anyway if there are no active devices attached to it. 2011-10-18xHCI/USB: Make xHCI driver have a BOS descriptor.Sarah Sharp
To add USB 3.0 link power management (LPM), we need to know what the U1 and U2 exit latencies are for the xHCI host controller. External USB 3.0 hubs report these values through the SuperSpeed Capabilities descriptor in the BOS descriptor. Make the USB 3.0 roothub for the xHCI host behave like an external hub and return the BOS descriptors. The U1 and U2 exit latencies will vary across each host controller, so we need to dynamically fill those values in by reading the exit latencies out of the xHC registers. Make the roothub code in the USB core handle hub_control() returning the length of the data copied. The selection and scroll bar are really needed only when the user starts navigating, before that it just provide distractions. This also brings the initial screen to look more like the stdio UI, which more people are used to. 2011-10-18dynamic_debug: fix undefined reference to `__netdev_printk'Jason Baron
Dynamic debug recently added support for netdev_printk. It uses __netdev_printk() to support this functionality. However, when CONFIG_NET is not set, we get the following error: lib/built-in.o: In function `__dynamic_netdev_dbg': (.text+0x9fda): undefined reference to `__netdev_printk' Fix this by making the call to netdev_printk() contingent upon CONFIG_NET. We could have fixed this by defining netdev_printk() to a 'no-op' in the !CONFIG_NET case. However, this is not consistent with how the networking layer uses netdev_printk. For example, CONFIG_NET is not set, netdev_printk() does not have a 'no-op' definition defined. 2011-10-18dynamic_debug: use a single printk() to emit messagesJason Baron
We were using KERN_CONT to combine messages with their prefix. However, KERN_CONT is not smp safe, in the sense that it can interleave messages. This interleaving can result in printks coming out at the wrong loglevel. With the high frequency of printks that dynamic debug can produce this is not desirable. So make dynamic_emit_prefix() fill a char buf[64] instead of doing a printk directly. If we enable printing out of function, module, line, or pid info, they are placed in this 64 byte buffer. In my testing 64 bytes was enough size to fulfill all requests. Even if it's not, we can match up the printk itself to see where it's from, so to me this is no big deal. 2011-10-18uio: Support physical addresses >32 bits on 32-bit systemsKai Jiang
To support >32-bit physical addresses for UIO_MEM_PHYS type we need to extend the width of 'addr' in struct uio_mem. Numerous platforms like embedded PPC, ARM, and X86 have support for systems with larger physical address than logical. Since 'addr' may contain a physical, logical, or virtual address the easiest solution is to just change the type to 'phys_addr_t' which should always be greater than or equal to the sizeof(void *) such that it can properly hold any of the address types. For physical address we can support up to a 44-bit physical address on a typical 32-bit system as we utilize remap_pfn_range() for the mapping of the memory region and pfn's are represnted by shifting the address by the page size (typically 4k). 2011-10-18tools, slub: Fix off-by-one buffer corruption after readlink() callThomas Jarosch
readlink() never zero terminates the provided buffer. Therefore we already do buffer[count] = 0; This leads to an off-by-one buffer corruption as readlink() might return the full size of the buffer. The common technique is to reduce the buffer size by one. Another fix would be to check if (count < 0 || count == sizeof(buffer)) fatal(); Reducing the buffer size by one is easier IMHO. commit ae50c0b5 "pnfs: client stats" added additional information to the output of /proc/self/mountstats. The new functions introduced are only used in this file and should be marked static. If CONFIG_NFS_V4_1 is not defined, empty stub functions are used. If CONFIG_NFS_V4 is not defined these stub functions are not used at all. 2011-10-18nfs: don't try to migrate pages with active requestsJeff Layton
nfs_find_and_lock_request will take a reference to the nfs_page and will then put it if the req is already locked. It's possible though that the reference will be the last one. That put then can kick off a whole series of reference puts: nfs_page nfs_open_context dentry inode If the inode ends up being deleted, then the VFS will call truncate_inode_pages. That function will try to take the page lock, but it was already locked when migrate_page was called. The code deadlocks. Fix this by simply refusing the migration request if PagePrivate is already set, indicating that the page is already associated with an active read or write request. We've had a customer test a backported version of this patch and the preliminary results seem good. 2011-10-18nfs: don't redirty inode when ncommit == 0 in nfs_commit_unstable_pagesJeff Layton
commit 420e3646 allowed the kernel to reduce the number of unnecessary commit calls by skipping the commit when there are a large number of outstanding pages. However, the current test in nfs_commit_unstable_pages does not handle the edge condition properly. When ncommit == 0, then that means that the kernel doesn't need to do anything more for the inode. The current test though in the WB_SYNC_NONE case will return true, and the inode will end up being marked dirty. Once that happens the inode will never be clean until there's a WB_SYNC_ALL flush. Fix this by immediately returning from nfs_commit_unstable_pages when ncommit == 0. Mike noticed this problem initially in RHEL5 (2.6.18-based kernel) which has a backported version of 420e3646. The inode cache there was growing very large. The inode cache was unable to be shrunk since the inodes were all marked dirty. Calling sync() would essentially "fix" the problem -- the WB_SYNC_ALL flush would result in the inodes all being marked clean. What I'm not clear on is how big a problem this is in mainline kernels as the writeback code there is very different. Either way, it seems incorrect to re-mark the inode dirty in this case. The reverted commit was rendered obsolete by a VFS fix: commit 5547e8aac6f71505d621a612de2fca0dd988b439 (writeback: Update dirty flags in two steps). We now no longer need to worry about writeback_single_inode() missing our marking the inode for COMMIT in 'do_writepages()' call. Reverting this patch, fixes a performance regression in which the inode would continuously get queued to the dirty list, causing the writeback code to unnecessarily try to send a COMMIT.
