Kbuild supports 3 levels of extra warnings, and multiple levels can
be combined, like W=12, W=123. It was added by commit a6de553da01c
("kbuild: Allow to combine multiple W= levels").
From the log of commit 8654cb8d0371 ("dtc: update warning settings
for new bus and node/property name checks"), I assume:
- unit_address_vs_reg, simple_bus_reg, etc. belong to level 1
- node_name_chars_strict, property_name_chars_strict belong to level 2
However, the level 1 warnings are displayed by any argument to W=.
On the other hand, the level 2 warnings are displayed by W=2, but
not by W=12, or W=123.
Use $(findstring ...) like scripts/Makefile.extrawarn.

Reverse dependency expressions can get rather unwieldy, especially if
a symbol is selected by more than a handful of other symbols. I.e. it's
possible to have near endless expressions like:
A && B && !C || D || F && (G || H) || [...]
Chop these expressions into actually readable chunks:
- A && B && !C
- D
- F && (G || H)
- [...]
I.e. transform the top level OR tokens into newlines and prepend each
line with a minus. This makes the "Selected by:" and "Implied by:" blurb
much easier to read. This is done only if there is more than one top
level OR. "Depends on:" and "Range :" were deliberately left as they are.

The 'oldnoconfig' is really confusing due to its counter-intuitive name.
It was renamed by commit fb16d8912db5 ("kconfig: replace 'oldnoconfig'
with 'olddefconfig', and keep the old name as an alias").
The 'oldnoconfig' has been kept as an alias for enough period of time,
and finally I am planning to remove it. I will give people a little
more time for migration. Meanwhile, the following message will be
displayed if oldnoconfig is used.
WARNING: "oldnoconfig" target will be removed after Linux 4.19
Please use "olddefconfig" instead, which is an alias.

Some of the drivers may use the macro at runtime flow, like

Change names of some variables and functions to conform
to the kernel coding style. The changes include some removal

Structure pwrcfgcmd is being zero'd at initialization however this
value is never read as few statements later in a loop it is being
assigned a new value, hence the initialization is redundant and
can be removed.

Exar sleep wake-up handling has been done on a per-channel basis by
virtue of INT0 being accessible from each channel's address space. I
believe this was initially done out of necessity, but now that Exar
devices have their own driver, we can do things more efficiently by
registering a dedicated INT0 handler at the PCI device level.
I see this change providing the following benefits:
1. If more than one port is active, eliminates the redundant bus
cycles for reading INT0 on every interrupt.
2. This note associated with hooking in the per-channel handler in
8250_port.c is resolved:

VM_IOREMAP is used to access hardware through a mechanism called
I/O mapped memory. Android binder is a IPC machanism which will
not access I/O memory.
And VM_IOREMAP has alignment requiement which may not needed in
binder.

This patch will save some kernel vm area, especially for 32bit os.

Function handle_IRQ_event was retired in v2.6.39 and replaced with
handle_irq_event but nobody changed it in lkdtm so INT_HW_IRQ_EN has
been broken for a while.

We were calculating the delta from a in-flight syscall that got its
output interrupted by another syscall, which doesn't seem like useful
information, we will print the syscall duration (sys_exit - sys_enter)
when the raw_syscalls:sys_exit event happens.
The problem here is how we're consuming the multiple ring buffers,
without using the ordered_events code used by perf_session, which may
cause some reordering of syscalls for diferent CPUs, so just stop
printing that delta, to avoid things like:

This patch adds support for complete packet decoding, allowing traces

Add functionatlity to setup trace queues so that traces associated with
CoreSight auxtrace events found in the perf.data file can be classified
properly. The decoder and memory callback associated with each queue are
then used to decode the traces that have been assigned to that queue.

This patch adds the required interface to the openCSD library to support
dumping CoreSight trace packet using the "report --dump" command. The
information conveyed is related to the type of packets gathered by a
trace session rather than full decoding.

The auxtrace_info section contains metadata that describes the number of
trace capable CPUs, their ETM version and trace configuration, including
trace id values. This information is required by the trace decoder in
order to properly decode the compressed trace packets. This patch adds
code to read and parse this metadata, and store it for use in
configuring instances of the cs-etm trace decoder.

The Open CoreSight Decoding Library (openCSD) is a free and open library
to decode traces collected by the CoreSight hardware infrastructure.
This patch adds the required mechanic to recognise the presence of the
openCSD library on a system and set up miscellaneous flags to be used in
the compilation of the trace decoding feature.
