2014-11-16ALSA: usb-audio: Add ctrl message delay quirk for Marantz/Denon devicesJurgen Kramer
This patch adds a USB control message delay quirk for a few specific Marantz/Denon devices. Without the delay the DACs will not work properly and produces the following type of messages: Nov 15 10:09:21 orwell kernel: [ 91.342880] usb 3-13: clock source 41 is not valid, cannot use Nov 15 10:09:21 orwell kernel: [ 91.343775] usb 3-13: clock source 41 is not valid, cannot use There are likely other Marantz/Denon devices using the same USB module which exhibit the same problems. But as this cannot be verified I limited the patch to the devices I could test. The following two devices are covered by this path: - Marantz SA-14S1 - Marantz HD-DAC1 Signed-off-by: Jurgen Kramer <gtmkramer@xs4all.nl> Cc: <stable@vger.kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2014-11-16perf/x86/intel/uncore: Fix IRP uncore register offsets on Haswell EPAndi Kleen
The counter register offsets for the IRP box PMU for Haswell-EP were incorrect. The offsets actually changed over IvyBridge EP. Fix them to the correct values. For this we need to fork the read function from the IVB and use an own counter array. 2014-11-16perf: Fix corruption of sibling list with hotplugMark Rutland
When a CPU hotplugged out, we call perf_remove_from_context() (via perf_event_exit_cpu()) to rip each CPU-bound event out of its PMU's cpu context, but leave siblings grouped together. Freeing of these events is left to the mercy of the usual refcounting. When a CPU-bound event's refcount drops to zero we cross-call to __perf_remove_from_context() to clean it up, detaching grouped siblings. This works when the relevant CPU is online, but will fail if the CPU is currently offline, and we won't detach the event from its siblings before freeing the event, leaving the sibling list corrupt. If the sibling list is later walked (e.g. because the CPU cam online again before a remaining sibling's refcount drops to zero), we will walk the now corrupted siblings list, potentially dereferencing garbage values. Given that the events should never be scheduled again (as we removed them from their context), we can simply detatch siblings when the CPU goes down in the first place. If the CPU comes back online, the redundant call to __perf_remove_from_context() is safe. 2014-11-15kernel: use the gnu89 standard explicitlyKirill A. Shutemov
Sasha Levin reports: "gcc5 changes the default standard to c11, which makes kernel build unhappy Explicitly define the kernel standard to be gnu89 which should keep everything working exactly like it was before gcc5" There are multiple small issues with the new default, but the biggest issue seems to be that the old - and very useful - GNU extension to allow a cast in front of an initializer has gone away. Patch updated by Kirill: "I'm pretty sure all gcc versions you can build kernel with supports -std=gnu89. cc-option is redunrant. We also need to adjust HOSTCFLAGS otherwise allmodconfig fails for me" Note by Andrew Pinski: "Yes it was reported and both problems relating to this extension has been added to gnu99 and gnu11. Though there are other issues with the kernel dealing with extern inline have different semantics between gnu89 and gnu99/11" End result: we may be able to move up to a newer stdc model eventually, but right now the newer models have some annoying deficiencies, so the traditional "gnu89" model ends up being the preferred one. 2014-11-15iio: accel: kxcjk-1013: Fix kxcjk10013_set_rangeDaniel Baluta
Currently, we get the new GSEL bits by OR-ing the old values with the new ones. This only works first time when the old values are 0. Startup: * GSEL0 = 0, GSEL1 = 0 Set range to 4G: (GSEL0 = 1, GSEL1 = 0) * GSEL0 = 0 | 1 = 1 * GSEL1 = 0 | 0 = 0 * correct Change range to 2G: (GSEL0 = 0, GSEL1 = 0) * GSEL0 = 1 | 0 = 1 * GSEL1 = 0 | 0 = 0 * wrong, GSEL0 should be 0 This has the nice effect that we can use the full scale range, exported in in_accel_scale_available. 2014-11-14openvswitch: Fix NDP flow mask validationDaniele Di Proietto
match_validate() enforce that a mask matching on NDP attributes has also an exact match on ICMPv6 type. The ICMPv6 type, which is 8-bit wide, is stored in the 'tp.src' field of 'struct sw_flow_key', which is 16-bit wide. Therefore, an exact match on ICMPv6 type should only check the first 8 bits. The checksum of ICMPv6 packets uses the IP pseudoheader as part of the calculation, unlike ICMP in IPv4. This was not implemented, which means that modifying the IP addresses of an ICMPv6 packet would cause the checksum to no longer be correct as the psuedoheader did not match. Fix this race, in __nf_conntrack_confirm(), by removing the CT from unconfirmed list before checking the DYING bit. In case race occured, re-add the CT to the dying list. While at this, fix coding style of the comment that has been updated. 2014-11-14GFS2: Update timestamps on fallocateAndrew Price
gfs2_fallocate() wasn't updating ctime and mtime when modifying the inode. Add a call to file_update_time() to do that. Signed-off-by: Andrew Price <anprice@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Steven Whitehouse <swhiteho@redhat.com>
2014-11-14GFS2: Update i_size properly on fallocateAndrew Price
This addresses an issue caught by fsx where the inode size was not being updated to the expected value after fallocate(2) with mode 0. The problem was caused by the offset and len parameters being converted to multiples of the file system's block size, so i_size would be rounded up to the nearest block size multiple instead of the requested size. This replaces the per-chunk i_size updates with a single i_size_write on successful completion of the operation. With this patch gfs2 gets through a complete run of fsx. For clarity, the check for (error == 0) following the loop is removed as all failures before that point jump to out_* labels or return. 2014-11-14GFS2: Use inode_newsize_ok and get_write_access in fallocateAndrew Price
gfs2_fallocate wasn't checking inode_newsize_ok nor get_write_access. Split out the context setup and inode locking pieces into a separate function to make it more clear and add these missing calls. inode_newsize_ok is called conditional on FALLOC_FL_KEEP_SIZE as there is no need to enforce a file size limit if it isn't going to change. 2014-11-14firewire: cdev: prevent kernel stack leaking into ioctl argumentsStefan Richter
Found by the UC-KLEE tool: A user could supply less input to firewire-cdev ioctls than write- or write/read-type ioctl handlers expect. The handlers used data from uninitialized kernel stack then. This could partially leak back to the user if the kernel subsequently generated fw_cdev_event_'s (to be read from the firewire-cdev fd) which notably would contain the _u64 closure field which many of the ioctl argument structures contain. The fact that the handlers would act on random garbage input is a lesser issue since all handlers must check their input anyway. The fix simply always null-initializes the entire ioctl argument buffer regardless of the actual length of expected user input. That is, a runtime overhead of memset(..., 40) is added to each firewirew-cdev ioctl() call. [Comment from Clemens Ladisch: This part of the stack is most likely to be already in the cache.] Remarks: - There was never any leak from kernel stack to the ioctl output buffer itself. IOW, it was not possible to read kernel stack by a read-type or write/read-type ioctl alone; the leak could at most happen in combination with read()ing subsequent event data. - The actual expected minimum user input of each ioctl from include/uapi/linux/firewire-cdev.h is, in bytes: [0x00] = 32, [0x05] = 4, [0x0a] = 16, [0x0f] = 20, [0x14] = 16, [0x01] = 36, [0x06] = 20, [0x0b] = 4, [0x10] = 20, [0x15] = 20, [0x02] = 20, [0x07] = 4, [0x0c] = 0, [0x11] = 0, [0x16] = 8, [0x03] = 4, [0x08] = 24, [0x0d] = 20, [0x12] = 36, [0x17] = 12, [0x04] = 20, [0x09] = 24, [0x0e] = 4, [0x13] = 40, [0x18] = 4. 2014-11-14arm64: entry: use ldp/stp instead of push/pop when saving/restoring regsWill Deacon
The push/pop instructions can be suboptimal when saving/restoring large amounts of data to/from the stack, for example on entry/exit from the kernel. This is because: (1) They act on descending addresses (i.e. the newly decremented sp), which may defeat some hardware prefetchers (2) They introduce an implicit dependency between each instruction, as the sp has to be updated in order to resolve the address of the next access. This patch removes the push/pop instructions from our kernel entry/exit macros in favour of ldp/stp plus offset. Signed-off-by: Will Deacon <will.deacon@arm.com>
