2014-11-03xhci: Disable streams on Asmedia 1042 xhci controllersHans de Goede
Streams seem to be broken on the Asmedia 1042. An uas capable Seagate disk which is known to work fine with other controllers causes the system to freeze when connected over usb-3 with this controller, where as it works fine with uas in usb-2 ports, indicating a problem with streams. This is a bit bigger hammer then I would like to use for this, but for now it will have to make do. I've ordered a pci-e usb controller card with an Asmedia 1042, once that arrives I'll try to get streams to work (with a quirk flag if necessary) and then we can re-enable them. For now this at least makes uas capable disk enclosures work again by forcing fallback to the usb-storage driver. 2014-11-03usb-storage: handle a skipped data phaseAlan Stern
Sometimes mass-storage devices using the Bulk-only transport will mistakenly skip the data phase of a command. Rather than sending the data expected by the host or sending a zero-length packet, they go directly to the status phase and send the CSW. This causes problems for usb-storage, for obvious reasons. The driver will interpret the CSW as a short data transfer and will wait to receive a CSW. The device won't have anything left to send, so the command eventually times out. The SCSI layer doesn't retry commands after they time out (this is a relatively recent change). Therefore we should do our best to detect a skipped data phase and handle it promptly. This patch adds code to do that. If usb-storage receives a short 13-byte data transfer from the device, and if the first four bytes of the data match the CSW signature, the driver will set the residue to the full transfer length and interpret the data as a CSW. This fixes Bugzilla #86611. 2014-11-03HID: core: cleanup .claimed field on disconnectBenjamin Tissoires
When a subdriver is rmmod-ed then re-insmod-ed, the hid device is not destroyed as it is owned by the transport layer. So when we re-probed the device, the hid device is assumed to be already claimed, and can lead to page faults if hid-core tries to forward the emitted data to the to-be-created claimed node. 2014-11-03x86_64,vsyscall: Make vsyscall emulation configurableAndy Lutomirski
This adds CONFIG_X86_VSYSCALL_EMULATION, guarded by CONFIG_EXPERT. Turning it off completely disables vsyscall emulation, saving ~3.5k for vsyscall_64.c, 4k for vsyscall_emu_64.S (the fake vsyscall page), some tiny amount of core mm code that supports a gate area, and possibly 4k for a wasted pagetable. The latter is because the vsyscall addresses are misaligned and fit poorly in the fixmap. I see no point in having an unusable read-only page sitting at 0xffffffffff600000 when vsyscall=none. Instead, skip mapping it and remove it from /proc/PID/maps. I kept the ratelimited warning when programs try to use a vsyscall in this mode, since it may help admins avoid confusion. 2014-11-03perf tools: Enhance the thread stack to output call/return dataAdrian Hunter
Enhance the thread stack to output detailed information about paired calls and returns. The enhanced processing consumes sample information via thread_stack__process() and outputs information about paired calls / returns via a call-back. While the call-back makes it possible for the facility to be used by arbitrary tools, a subsequent patch will provide the information to Python scripting via the db-export interface. An important part of the call/return information is the call path which provides a structure that defines a context sensitive call graph. Note that there are now two ways to use the thread stack. For simply providing a call stack (like you would get from the perf record -g option) the interface consists of thread_stack__event() and thread_stack__sample(). Whereas the enhanced interface consists of call_return_processor__new() and thread_stack__process(). 2014-11-03macvtap: Fix csum_start when VLAN tags are presentHerbert Xu
When VLAN is in use in macvtap_put_user, we end up setting csum_start to the wrong place. The result is that the whoever ends up doing the checksum setting will corrupt the packet instead of writing the checksum to the expected location, usually this means writing the checksum with an offset of -4. This patch fixes this by adjusting csum_start when VLAN tags are detected. We set the flag TUN_PKT_STRIP if the user buffer provided is too small to contain the entire packet plus meta-data. However, this has been broken ever since we added GSO meta-data. VLAN acceleration also has the same problem. This patch fixes this by taking both into account when setting the TUN_PKT_STRIP flag. The fact that this has been broken for six years without anyone realising means that nobody actually uses this flag. 2014-11-03tun: Fix csum_start with VLAN accelerationHerbert Xu
When VLAN acceleration is in use on the xmit path, we end up setting csum_start to the wrong place. The result is that the whoever ends up doing the checksum setting will corrupt the packet instead of writing the checksum to the expected location, usually this means writing the checksum with an offset of -4. This patch fixes this by adjusting csum_start when VLAN acceleration is detected. If an application does a sequence of (1) big write, (2) little write we don't necessarily want to reset the size hint based on the smaller size. The fact that they did any big writes implies they may do more, and therefore we should try to allocate bigger block reservations, even if the last few were small writes. Therefore this patch changes function gfs2_size_hint so that the size hint can only grow; it cannot shrink. This is especially important where there are multiple writers. 2014-11-03ftracetest: Take the first debugfs mount foundSteven Rostedt (Red Hat)
Running ftracetests on a box that mounted debugfs in two locations made the ftracetests fail. This is because the tests uses a grep of debugfs from the /proc/mounts file to find the debugfs mount point, and then appends "/tracing" to that string to get the tracing directory. If the debugfs directory is mounted twice, then that grep will return two answers and appending "/tracing" to a string with two lines will not work.
