We first tried to avoid updating atime/mtime entirely (commit
b0de59b5733d: "TTY: do not update atime/mtime on read/write"), and then
limited it to only update it occasionally (commit 37b7f3c76595: "TTY:
fix atime/mtime regression"), but it turns out that this was both
insufficient and overkill.
It was insufficient because we let people attach to the shared ptmx node
to see activity without even reading atime/mtime, and it was overkill
because the "only once a minute" means that you can't really tell an
idle person from an active one with 'w'.
So this tries to fix the problem properly. It marks the shared ptmx
node as un-notifiable, and it lowers the "only once a minute" to a few
seconds instead - still long enough that you can't time individual
keystrokes, but short enough that you can tell whether somebody is
active or not.

Without async DIO write requests to a single file were always serialized.
With async DIO that's no longer the case.
So don't turn on async DIO by default for fear of breaking backward

For debugging purposes, it is useful to have a name-string added
while exporting buffers. Hence, dma_buf_export() is replaced with
dma_buf_export_named(), which additionally takes 'exp_name' as a
parameter.
For backward compatibility, and for lazy exporters who don't wish to
name themselves, a #define dma_buf_export() is also made available,
which adds a __FILE__ instead of 'exp_name'.

If we allocate perf ring buffer with the size of single (user)
page, we will get memory corruption when releasing itin
rb_free_work function (for CONFIG_PERF_USE_VMALLOC option).
For single page sized ring buffer the page_order is -1 (because
nr_pages is 0). This needs to be recognized in the rb_free_work
function to release proper amount of pages.
Adding data_page_nr function that returns number of allocated
data pages. Customizing the rest of the code to use it.

If the nodeid is > num_online_nodes() this can cause an Oops and a
panic(). The purpose of this patch is to assert if this condition is
true to aid debugging efforts rather than some random NULL pointer
dereference or page fault.
This patch is in response to BZ#42967 [1]. Using VM_BUG_ON so it's used
only when CONFIG_DEBUG_VM is set, given that ____cache_alloc_node() is a
hot code path.

Hey Jens, this is everything I've got ready for 3.10 - there's _still_

Andrew - I've got patches that rip out the pkey() and pbtree() macros,

I think I'm going to wait a bit on those.

Unlike tcm_vhost_evt requests, tcm_vhost_cmd requests are passed to the
target core system, we can not make sure all the pending requests will
be finished by flushing the virt queue.
In this patch, we do refcount for every tcm_vhost_cmd requests to make
vhost_scsi_flush() wait for all the pending requests issued before the
flush operation to be finished.
This is useful when we call vhost_scsi_clear_endpoint() to stop
tcm_vhost. No new requests will be passed to target core system because
we clear the endpoint by setting vs_tpg to NULL. And we wait for all the
old requests. These guarantee no requests will be leaked and existing
requests will be completed.

This is useful for any device who wants device specific fields per vq.
For example, tcm_vhost wants a per vq field to track requests which are
in flight on the vq. Also, on top of this we can add patches to move
things like ubufs from vhost.h out to net.c.
