2023-04-05tick/nohz: Fix cpu_is_hotpluggable() by checking with nohz subsystemJoel Fernandes (Google)
For CONFIG_NO_HZ_FULL systems, the tick_do_timer_cpu cannot be offlined. However, cpu_is_hotpluggable() still returns true for those CPUs. This causes torture tests that do offlining to end up trying to offline this CPU causing test failures. Such failure happens on all architectures. Fix the repeated error messages thrown by this (even if the hotplug errors are harmless) by asking the opinion of the nohz subsystem on whether the CPU can be hotplugged. 2023-04-05srcu: Clarify comments on memory barrier "E"Joel Fernandes (Google)
There is an smp_mb() named "E" in srcu_flip() immediately before the increment (flip) of the srcu_struct structure's ->srcu_idx. The purpose of E is to order the preceding scan's read of lock counters against the flipping of the ->srcu_idx, in order to prevent new readers from continuing to use the old ->srcu_idx value, which might needlessly extend the grace period. However, this ordering is already enforced because of the control dependency between the preceding scan and the ->srcu_idx flip. This control dependency exists because atomic_long_read() is used to scan the counts, because WRITE_ONCE() is used to flip ->srcu_idx, and because ->srcu_idx is not flipped until the ->srcu_lock_count[] and ->srcu_unlock_count[] counts match. And such a match cannot happen when there is an in-flight reader that started before the flip (observation courtesy Mathieu Desnoyers). This commit therefore clarifies the comment on memory barrier E. Why not also remove that redundant smp_mb()? Because control dependencies are quite fragile due to their not being recognized by most compilers and tools. Control dependencies therefore exact an ongoing maintenance burden, and such a burden cannot be justified in this slowpath. Therefore, that smp_mb() stays until such time as its overhead becomes a measurable problem in a real workload running on a real production system, or until such time as compilers start paying attention to this sort of control dependency. Since commit 8b41fc4454e ("kbuild: create modules.builtin without Makefile.modbuiltin or tristate.conf"), MODULE_LICENSE declarations are used to identify modules. As a consequence, uses of the macro in non-modules will cause modprobe to misidentify their containing object file as a module when it is not (false positives), and modprobe might succeed rather than failing with a suitable error message. So remove it in the files in this commit, none of which can be built as modules. 2023-04-05arm64: tegra: Add vccmq on Jetson TX2Ben Dooks
The TX2 SoM's SDIO WiFI card is connected via mmc@3440000 however it does not look like the upstream kernel is even bothering to power this (and the regulator framework shuts down this power rail post kernel init). The issue seems to be a missing link for vccq from the MAX77620 PMIC's LDO5 which is labeled vddio_sdmmc3 (and not used anywhere else) to the mmc@3440000 node to ensure there is at leasr bus power. Note this does not fix the WiFi issue on upstream kernels, there is still something else missing that gets the BCM WiFi device to detect properly. With PCI if the device was suspended it is brought back to full power and then suspended again. This doesn't happen when device is described via DT. We need to make sure that we tear down pipelines only if the device was previously active (thus the pipelines were setup). 2023-04-05memstick: fix memory leak if card device is never registeredGreg Kroah-Hartman
When calling dev_set_name() memory is allocated for the name for the struct device. Once that structure device is registered, or attempted to be registerd, with the driver core, the driver core will handle cleaning up that memory when the device is removed from the system. Unfortunatly for the memstick code, there is an error path that causes the struct device to never be registered, and so the memory allocated in dev_set_name will be leaked. Fix that leak by manually freeing it right before the memory for the device is freed. As discussed with Dae R. Jeong and Hillf Danton here [1] the sendmsg() function in isotp.c might get into a race condition when restoring the former tx.state from the old_state. Remove the old_state concept and implement proper locking for the ISOTP_IDLE transitions in isotp_sendmsg(), inspired by a simplification idea from Hillf Danton. Introduce a new tx.state ISOTP_SHUTDOWN and use the same locking mechanism from isotp_release() which resolves a potential race between isotp_sendsmg() and isotp_release(). 2023-04-05can: isotp: isotp_ops: fix poll() to not report false EPOLLOUT eventsMichal Sojka
When using select()/poll()/epoll() with a non-blocking ISOTP socket to wait for when non-blocking write is possible, a false EPOLLOUT event is sometimes returned. This can happen at least after sending a message which must be split to multiple CAN frames. The reason is that isotp_sendmsg() returns -EAGAIN when tx.state is not equal to ISOTP_IDLE and this behavior is not reflected in datagram_poll(), which is used in isotp_ops. In the j1939_tp_tx_dat_new() function, an out-of-bounds memory access could occur during the memcpy() operation if the size of skb->cb is larger than the size of struct j1939_sk_buff_cb. This is because the memcpy() operation uses the size of skb->cb, leading to a read beyond the struct j1939_sk_buff_cb. Updated the memcpy() operation to use the size of struct j1939_sk_buff_cb instead of the size of skb->cb. This ensures that the memcpy() operation only reads the memory within the bounds of struct j1939_sk_buff_cb, preventing out-of-bounds memory access. Additionally, add a BUILD_BUG_ON() to check that the size of skb->cb is greater than or equal to the size of struct j1939_sk_buff_cb. This ensures that the skb->cb buffer is large enough to hold the j1939_sk_buff_cb structure. SCMI defines two kinds of communication channels between the agent and the platform: one bidirectional 'a2p' channel used by the agent to send SCMI commands and synchronously receive the related replies, and an optional 'p2a' unidirectional channel used to asynchronously receive delayed responses and notifications emitted from the platform. When configuring an SCMI transport based on mailboxes, the current binding supports only mailboxes providing bidirectional channels: in such a case one mailbox channel can be easily assigned to each SCMI channel as above described. In case, instead, to have to deal with mailboxes providing only distinct unidirectional channels, it becomes necessary to extend the binding in order to be able to bind 2 distinct unidirectional mailbox channels to the same SCMI 'a2p' channel. Bidirectional and unidirectional channels support for the SCMI mailbox transport can coexist by carefully considering the effective combination of defined 'mboxes' and 'shmem' descriptors. The same task check in perf_event_set_output has some potential issues for some usages. Besides the above issue, before the commit bd2756811766 ("perf: Rewrite core context handling"), perf record can errors out when sampling with a hardware event and a software event as below. $ perf record -e cycles,dummy --per-thread ls failed to mmap with 22 (Invalid argument) That's because that prior to the commit a hardware event and a software event are from different task context. The problem should be a long time issue since commit c3f00c70276d ("perk: Separate find_get_context() from event initialization"). The task struct is stored in the event->hw.target for each per-thread event. It is a more reliable way to determine whether two events are attached to the same task. The event->hw.target was also introduced several years ago by the commit 50f16a8bf9d7 ("perf: Remove type specific target pointers"). It can not only be used to fix the issue with the current code, but also back port to fix the issues with an older kernel. Note: The event->hw.target was introduced later than commit c3f00c70276d. The patch may cannot be applied between the commit c3f00c70276d and commit 50f16a8bf9d7. Anybody that wants to back-port this at that period may have to find other solutions. 2023-04-05accel/ivpu: Add dma fence to command buffers onlyKarol Wachowski
Currently job->done_fence is added to every BO handle within a job. If job handle (command buffer) is shared between multiple submits, KMD will add the fence in each of them. Then bo_wait_ioctl() executed on command buffer will exit only when all jobs containing that handle are done. This creates deadlock scenario for user mode driver in case when job handle is added as dependency of another job, because bo_wait_ioctl() of first job will wait until second job finishes, and second job can not finish before first one. Having fences added only to job buffer handle allows user space to execute bo_wait_ioctl() on the job even if it's handle is submitted with other job.
