2012-07-25ahci: Enable SB600 64bit DMA on MSI K9AGM2 (MS-7327) v2Mark Nelson
Like e65cc194f7628ecaa02462f22f42fb09b50dcd49 (ahci: Enable SB600 64bit DMA on MSI K9A2 Platinum) and 3c4aa91f21f65b7b40bdfb015eacbcb8453ccae2 (ahci: Enable SB600 64bit DMA on Asus M3A), this patch enables 64bit DMA for the AHCI SATA controller of another board that has the SB600 southbridge. In this case though we're enabling 64bit DMA for another MSI motherboard, the K9AGM2 or MS-7327. It is new enough that all of the BIOS releases since the initial release (1.0 from 2007-02-09) work correctly with 64bit DMA enabled. 2012-07-25[libata] Prevent interface errors with Seagate FreeAgent GoFlexDaniel J Blueman
When using my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex eSATAp external disk enclosure, interface errors are always seen until 1.5Gbps is negotiated [1]. This occurs using any disk in the enclosure, and when the disk is connected directly with a generic passive eSATAp cable, we see stable 3Gbps operation as expected. 2012-07-25perf annotate: Prevent overflow in size calculationCody Schafer
A large enough symbol size causes an overflow in the size parameter to the histogram allocation, leading to a segfault in symbol__inc_addr_samples later on when this histogram is accessed. In the case of being called via perf-report, this returns back and gracefully ignores the sample, eventually ignoring the chained return value of perf_session_deliver_event in flush_sample_queue. Cross compiling perf requires setting ARCH and CROSS_COMPILE variables, but libtraceevent couldn't detect the changes so it ends up believing no recompiling is required. 2012-07-25ARM: Kirkwood: Fix PHY disable clk problemsSimon Baatz
Commit 98d9986 (ARM: Kirkwood: Replace clock gating) and the fix 5fb2ce (ARM: Kirkwood: clk_register_gate_fn: add fn assignment) introduced a custom variant of clock gating which allows to define a function to be called before gating the clock off. This is used to disable the SATA and PCIe PHYs if the respective clocks are unused after initialization. However, of these two drivers, the SATA driver may be compiled as a module. The driver re-enables the clocks at module init but the PHYs stay disabled. Since the custom clock gating disabled the PHYs when gating the clock off, it should also re-enable them when enabling the clock gate. Marvell engineers tell us: It seems that many units use the RUNIT clock. SPI, UART, NAND, TWSI, ... So it's not possible to clock gate it. Currently the SPI, NAND and TWSI driver will clk_prepaure_enable() this clk, but since we have no idea what ... is, and turning this clk off results in a hard lock, unconditionally enable runit. Perf uses GNU-specific version of strerror_r(). The GNU-specific strerror_r() returns a pointer to a string containing the error message. This may be either a pointer to a string that the function stores in buf, or a pointer to some (immutable) static string (in which case buf is unused). In glibc-2.16 GNU version was marked with attribute warn_unused_result. There have one problem about hw_breakpoint perf event, as watched, the events reported to userspace is not correctly, sometime one trigger bp_event report several events, sometime bp_event cannot go through to user. The root cause is attr->freq is 1 passed to kernel defaultly in bp events, this make kernel calculate event period not as expect, make sample period to 1 will change attr->freq to 0, to fix this problem. 2012-07-25perf symbols: Add dso data cachingJiri Olsa
Adding dso data caching so we don't need to open/read/close, each time we want dso data. The DSO data caching affects following functions: dso__data_read_offset dso__data_read_addr Each DSO read tries to find the data (based on offset) inside the cache. If it's not present it fills the cache from file, and returns the data. If it is present, data are returned with no file read. Each data read is cached by reading cache page sized/aligned amount of DSO data. The cache page size is hardcoded to 4096. The cache is using RB tree with file offset as a sort key. Adding following interface for DSO object to allow reading of DSO image data: dso__data_fd - opens DSO and returns file descriptor Binary types are used to locate/open DSO in following order: DSO_BINARY_TYPE__BUILD_ID_CACHE DSO_BINARY_TYPE__SYSTEM_PATH_DSO In other word we first try to open DSO build-id path, and if that fails we try to open DSO system path. dso__data_read_offset - reads DSO data from specified offset dso__data_read_addr - reads DSO data from specified address/map. 2012-07-25perf tools: Fix trace events storms due to weight demuxFrederic Weisbecker
Trace events have a period (weight) of 1 by default. This can be overriden on events definition by using the __perf_count() macro. For example, the sched_stat_runtime() is weighted with the runtime of the task that fired the event. By default, perf handles such weighted event by dividing it into individual events carrying a weight of 1. For example if sched_stat_runtime is fired and the task has run 5000000 nsecs, perf divides it into 5000000 events in the buffer. This behaviour makes weighted events unusable because they quickly fullfill the buffers and we lose most events. The commit 5d81e5cfb37a174e8ddc0413e2e70cdf05807ace ("events: Don't divide events if it has field period") solves this problem by sending only one event when PERF_SAMPLE_PERIOD flag is set. The weight is carried in the sample itself such that we don't need to demultiplex it anymore. This patch provides the last missing piece to use this feature by setting PERF_SAMPLE_PERIOD from perf tools when we deal with trace events. 2012-07-25drm/i915/lvds: ditch ->prepare special caseDaniel Vetter
LVDS is the first output where dpms on/off and prepare/commit don't perfectly match. Now the idea behind this special case seems to be that for simple resolution changes on the LVDS we don't need to stop the pipe, because (at least on newer chips) we can adjust the panel fitter on the fly. There are a few problems with the current code though: - We still stop and restart the pipe unconditionally, because the crtc helper code isn't flexible enough. - We show some ugly flickering, especially when changing crtcs (this the crtc helper would actually take into account, but we don't implement the encoder->get_crtc callback required to make this work properly). So it doesn't even work as advertised. I agree that it would be nice to do resolution changes on LVDS (and also eDP) whithout blacking the screen where the panel fitter allows to do that. But imo we should implement this as a special case a few layers up in the mode set code, akin to how we already detect simple framebuffer changes (and only update the required registers with ->mode_set_base). Until this is all in place, make our lives easier and just rip it out. The issue is that we stale data in the CPU caches, when we come to swap-out the object, the CPU may short-circuit the reads from those cacheline and so corrupt the context object. Secondary, leaving the context object as being marked in the CPU write domain whilst on the GPU active list is a bad idea and will throw warnings later. Note: Thanks to calling set_to_gtt_domain with write = false and not setting any gpu write domain when putting a context object onto the active list (when we switch away from it) the set_to_gtt_domain call won't block. 2012-07-24Input: synaptics - handle out of bounds values from the hardwareSeth Forshee
The touchpad on the Acer Aspire One D250 will report out of range values in the extreme lower portion of the touchpad. These appear as abrupt changes in the values reported by the hardware from very low values to very high values, which can cause unexpected vertical jumps in the position of the mouse pointer. What seems to be happening is that the value is wrapping to a two's compliment negative value of higher resolution than the 13-bit value reported by the hardware, with the high-order bits being truncated. This patch adds handling for these values by converting them to the appropriate negative values. The only tricky part about this is deciding when to treat a number as negative. It stands to reason that if out of range values can be reported on the low end then it could also happen on the high end, so not all out of range values should be treated as negative. The approach taken here is to split the difference between the maximum legitimate value for the axis and the maximum possible value that the hardware can report, treating values greater than this number as negative and all other values as positive. This can be tweaked later if hardware is found that operates outside of these parameters.
