2010-10-11sh: oprofile: Use perf-events oprofile backendMatt Fleming
Now that we've got a generic perf-events based oprofile backend we might as well make use of it seeing as SH doesn't do anything special with its oprofile backend. Also introduce a new CONFIG_HW_PERF_EVENTS symbol so that we can fallback to using the timer interrupt for oprofile if the CPU doesn't support perf events. Also, to avoid a section mismatch warning we need to annotate oprofile_arch_exit() with an __exit marker. 2010-10-11oprofile: Abstract the perf-events backendMatt Fleming
Move the perf-events backend from arch/arm/oprofile into drivers/oprofile so that the code can be shared between architectures. This allows each architecture to maintain only a single copy of the PMU accessor functions instead of one for both perf and OProfile. It also becomes possible for other architectures to delete much of their OProfile code in favour of the common code now available in drivers/oprofile/oprofile_perf.c. 2010-10-11MX35: Fix bogus L2 cache settingsJuergen Beisert
i.MX35 CPUs marked with "MCIMX357CJQ5C M99V CTHA0943B" are coming with bogus L2 cache settings. If these settings are kept unmodified prior enabling the L2 cache the CPU runs amok immediately when its enabled. This fix should not hurt already working CPUs, as they are using the written register value already. Its currently unknown if its possible to detect the production lot from the software to fix only affected CPUs. The VMCB is reset whenever we receive a startup IPI, so Linux is setting TSC back to zero happens very late in the boot process and destabilizing the TSC. 2010-10-11x86, AMD, MCE thresholding: Fix the MCi_MISCj iteration orderBorislav Petkov
This fixes possible cases of not collecting valid error info in the MCE error thresholding groups on F10h hardware. The current code contains a subtle problem of checking only the Valid bit of MSR0000_0413 (which is MC4_MISC0 - DRAM thresholding group) in its first iteration and breaking out if the bit is cleared. But (!), this MSR contains an offset value, BlkPtr[31:24], which points to the remaining MSRs in this thresholding group which might contain valid information too. But if we bail out only after we checked the valid bit in the first MSR and not the block pointer too, we miss that other information. The thing is, MC4_MISC0[BlkPtr] is not predicated on MCi_STATUS[MiscV] or MC4_MISC0[Valid] and should be checked prior to iterating over the MCI_MISCj thresholding group, irrespective of the MC4_MISC0[Valid] setting. with hardware slow in negotiation, the system did freeze while trying to mount root on nfs at boot time. the link state has not been initialised so network stack tried to start transmission right away. this caused instant retries, as the driver solely stated business upon link down, rendering the system unusable. notify carrier off initially to prevent transmission until phylib will report link up.
