Syzbot reported the use-after-free in timer_is_static_object() [1]. This can happen because the structure for the rto timer (ccid2_hc_tx_sock) is removed in dccp_disconnect(), and ccid2_hc_tx_rto_expire() can be called after that. The report [1] is similar to the one in commit 120e9dabaf55 ("dccp: defer ccid_hc_tx_delete() at dismantle time"). And the fix is the same, delay freeing ccid2_hc_tx_sock structure, so that it is freed in dccp_sk_destruct(). 2018-05-22isdn: eicon: fix a missing-check bugWenwen Wang
In divasmain.c, the function divas_write() firstly invokes the function diva_xdi_open_adapter() to open the adapter that matches with the adapter number provided by the user, and then invokes the function diva_xdi_write() to perform the write operation using the matched adapter. The two functions diva_xdi_open_adapter() and diva_xdi_write() are located in diva.c. In diva_xdi_open_adapter(), the user command is copied to the object 'msg' from the userspace pointer 'src' through the function pointer 'cp_fn', which eventually calls copy_from_user() to do the copy. Then, the adapter number 'msg.adapter' is used to find out a matched adapter from the 'adapter_queue'. A matched adapter will be returned if it is found. Otherwise, NULL is returned to indicate the failure of the verification on the adapter number. As mentioned above, if a matched adapter is returned, the function diva_xdi_write() is invoked to perform the write operation. In this function, the user command is copied once again from the userspace pointer 'src', which is the same as the 'src' pointer in diva_xdi_open_adapter() as both of them are from the 'buf' pointer in divas_write(). Similarly, the copy is achieved through the function pointer 'cp_fn', which finally calls copy_from_user(). After the successful copy, the corresponding command processing handler of the matched adapter is invoked to perform the write operation. It is obvious that there are two copies here from userspace, one is in diva_xdi_open_adapter(), and one is in diva_xdi_write(). Plus, both of these two copies share the same source userspace pointer, i.e., the 'buf' pointer in divas_write(). Given that a malicious userspace process can race to change the content pointed by the 'buf' pointer, this can pose potential security issues. For example, in the first copy, the user provides a valid adapter number to pass the verification process and a valid adapter can be found. Then the user can modify the adapter number to an invalid number. This way, the user can bypass the verification process of the adapter number and inject inconsistent data. This patch reuses the data copied in diva_xdi_open_adapter() and passes it to diva_xdi_write(). This way, the above issues can be avoided. 2018-05-22sctp: fix the issue that flags are ignored when using kernel_connectXin Long
Now sctp uses inet_dgram_connect as its proto_ops .connect, and the flags param can't be passed into its proto .connect where this flags is really needed. sctp works around it by getting flags from socket file in __sctp_connect. It works for connecting from userspace, as inherently the user sock has socket file and it passes f_flags as the flags param into the proto_ops .connect. However, the sock created by sock_create_kern doesn't have a socket file, and it passes the flags (like O_NONBLOCK) by using the flags param in kernel_connect, which calls proto_ops .connect later. So to fix it, this patch defines a new proto_ops .connect for sctp, sctp_inet_connect, which calls __sctp_connect() directly with this flags param. After this, the sctp's proto .connect can be removed. Note that sctp_inet_connect doesn't need to do some checks that are not needed for sctp, which makes thing better than with inet_dgram_connect. 2018-05-22arm64: fault: Don't leak data in ESR context for user fault on kernel VAPeter Maydell
If userspace faults on a kernel address, handing them the raw ESR value on the sigframe as part of the delivered signal can leak data useful to attackers who are using information about the underlying hardware fault type (e.g. translation vs permission) as a mechanism to defeat KASLR. However there are also legitimate uses for the information provided in the ESR -- notably the GCC and LLVM sanitizers use this to report whether wild pointer accesses by the application are reads or writes (since a wild write is a more serious bug than a wild read), so we don't want to drop the ESR information entirely. For faulting addresses in the kernel, sanitize the ESR. We choose to present userspace with the illusion that there is nothing mapped in the kernel's part of the address space at all, by reporting all faults as level 0 translation faults taken to EL1. These fields are safe to pass through to userspace as they depend only on the instruction that userspace used to provoke the fault: EC IL (always) ISV CM WNR (for all data aborts) All the other fields in ESR except DFSC are architecturally RES0 for an L0 translation fault taken to EL1, so can be zeroed out without confusing userspace. The illusion is not entirely perfect, as there is a tiny wrinkle where we will report an alignment fault that was not due to the memory type (for instance a LDREX to an unaligned address) as a translation fault, whereas if you do this on real unmapped memory the alignment fault takes precedence. This is not likely to trip anybody up in practice, as the only users we know of for the ESR information who care about the behaviour for kernel addresses only really want to know about the WnR bit. 2018-05-22perf machine: Workaround missing maps for x86 PTI entry trampolinesAdrian Hunter
On x86_64 the PTI entry trampolines are not in the kernel map created by perf tools. That results in the addresses having no symbols and prevents annotation. It also causes Intel PT to have decoding errors at the trampoline addresses. Workaround that by creating maps for the trampolines. At present the kernel does not export information revealing where the trampolines are. Until that happens, the addresses are hardcoded. 2018-05-22PM / core: Fix direct_complete handling for devices with no callbacksRafael J. Wysocki
Commit 08810a4119aa (PM / core: Add NEVER_SKIP and SMART_PREPARE driver flags) inadvertently prevented the power.direct_complete flag from being set for devices without PM callbacks and with disabled runtime PM which also prevents power.direct_complete from being set for their parents. That led to problems including a resume crash on HP ZBook 14u. Restore the previous behavior by causing power.direct_complete to be set for those devices again, but do that in a more direct way to avoid overlooking that case in the future. 2018-05-22cpufreq: schedutil: Cleanup and document iowait boostPatrick Bellasi
The iowait boosting code has been recently updated to add a progressive boosting behavior which allows to be less aggressive in boosting tasks doing only sporadic IO operations, thus being more energy efficient for example on mobile platforms. The current code is now however a bit convoluted. Some functionalities (e.g. iowait boost reset) are replicated in different paths and their documentation is slightly misaligned. Let's cleanup the code by consolidating all the IO wait boosting related functionality within within few dedicated functions and better define their role: - sugov_iowait_boost: set/increase the IO wait boost of a CPU - sugov_iowait_apply: apply/reduce the IO wait boost of a CPU Both these two function are used at every sugov update and they make use of a unified IO wait boost reset policy provided by: - sugov_iowait_reset: reset/disable the IO wait boost of a CPU if a CPU is not updated for more then one tick This makes possible a cleaner and more self-contained design for the IO wait boosting code since the rest of the sugov update routines, both for single and shared frequency domains, follow the same template: /* Configure IO boost, if required */ sugov_iowait_boost() /* Return here if freq change is in progress or throttled */ /* Collect and aggregate utilization information */ sugov_get_util() sugov_aggregate_util() /* * Add IO boost, if currently enabled, on top of the aggregated * utilization value */ sugov_iowait_apply() As a extra bonus, let's also add the documentation for the new functions and better align the in-code documentation. A more energy efficient update of the IO wait boosting mechanism has been introduced in: commit a5a0809bc58e ("cpufreq: schedutil: Make iowait boost more energy efficient") where the boost value is expected to be: - doubled at each successive wakeup from IO staring from the minimum frequency supported by a CPU - reset when a CPU is not updated for more then one tick by either disabling the IO wait boost or resetting its value to the minimum frequency if this new update requires an IO boost. This approach is supposed to "ignore" boosting for sporadic wakeups from IO, while still getting the frequency boosted to the maximum to benefit long sequence of wakeup from IO operations. However, these assumptions are not always satisfied. For example, when an IO boosted CPU enters idle for more the one tick and then wakes up after an IO wait, since in sugov_set_iowait_boost() we first check the IOWAIT flag, we keep doubling the iowait boost instead of restarting from the minimum frequency value. This misbehavior could happen mainly on non-shared frequency domains, thus defeating the energy efficiency optimization, but it can also happen on shared frequency domain systems. ndelay() is supposed to take an unsigned long, but if you define ndelay() as a macro and the caller pass an unsigned long long instead of an unsigned long, the unsigned long long to unsigned long cast is not done and we end up with an "undefined reference to `__udivdi3'" error at link time. Fix that by making ndelay() an inline function and then defining dummy ndelay() macro that redirects to the ndelay() function (it's how most archs do to implement ndelay()). 2018-05-22m68k: Use read_persistent_clock64() consistentlyArnd Bergmann
We have two ways of getting the current time from a platform at boot or during suspend: either using read_persistent_clock() or the rtc class operation. We never need both, so I'm hiding the read_persistent_clock variant when the generic RTC is enabled. Since read_persistent_clock() and mktime() are deprecated because of the y2038 overflow of time_t, we should use the time64_t based replacements here. Finally, the dependency on CONFIG_ARCH_USES_GETTIMEOFFSET looks completely bogus in this case, so let's remove that. It was added in commit b13b3f51ff7b ("m68k: fix inclusion of arch_gettimeoffset for non-MMU 68k classic CPU types") to deal with arch_gettimeoffset(), which has since been removed from this file and is unrelated to the RTC functions. The rtc accessors are only used by classic machines, while coldfire uses proper RTC drivers, so we can put the old ifdef back around both functions. This fixes a bug in read_persistent_clock() which causes the system clock to lag the Real Time Clock by one month. The problem was noticed on a Mac, but theoretically it must also affect Atari, BVME6000 and Q40. The tm_mon value in the struct rtc_time passed to mach_hwclk() is zero-based, and atari_mste_hwclk(), atari_tt_hwclk(), bvme6000_hwclk(), mac_hwclk() and q40_hwclk() all make this adjustment. Unfortunately, dn_dummy_hwclk(), mvme147_hwclk(), mvme16x_hwclk(), sun3_hwclk() and sun3x_hwclk() fail to decrement tm_mon. Also m68328_hwclk() assumes a one-based tm_mon. Bring these platforms into line and fix read_persistent_clock() so it works correctly on all m68k platforms. The datasheets for the RTC devices found on the affected platforms all confirm that the year is stored as a value in the range 0-99 and the month is stored as a value in the range 1-12. Please refer to the datasheets for MC146818 (Apollo), DS1643 (MVME), ICM7170 (Sun 3) and M48T02 (Sun 3x). 2018-05-21powerpc/64s: Add support for a store forwarding barrier at kernel entry/exitNicholas Piggin
On some CPUs we can prevent a vulnerability related to store-to-load forwarding by preventing store forwarding between privilege domains, by inserting a barrier in kernel entry and exit paths. This is known to be the case on at least Power7, Power8 and Power9 powerpc CPUs. Barriers must be inserted generally before the first load after moving to a higher privilege, and after the last store before moving to a lower privilege, HV and PR privilege transitions must be protected. Barriers are added as patch sections, with all kernel/hypervisor entry points patched, and the exit points to lower privilge levels patched similarly to the RFI flush patching. Firmware advertisement is not implemented yet, so CPU flush types are hard coded. Thanks to Michal Suchánek for bug fixes and review. When a loop block device encounters a writeback error, that error will get propagated to the bd_inode's wb_err field. If we then detach the backing file from it, attach another and fsync it, we'll get back the writeback error that we had from the previous backing file. This is a bit of a grey area as POSIX doesn't cover loop devices, but it is somewhat counterintuitive. If we detach a backing file from the loopdev while there are still unreported errors, take it as a sign that we're no longer interested in the previous file, and clear out the wb_err in the loop blockdev. 2018-05-21aio: fix io_destroy(2) vs. lookup_ioctx() raceAl Viro
kill_ioctx() used to have an explicit RCU delay between removing the reference from ->ioctx_table and percpu_ref_kill() dropping the refcount. At some point that delay had been removed, on the theory that percpu_ref_kill() itself contained an RCU delay. Unfortunately, that was the wrong kind of RCU delay and it didn't care about rcu_read_lock() used by lookup_ioctx(). As the result, we could get ctx freed right under lookup_ioctx(). Tejun has fixed that in a6d7cff472e ("fs/aio: Add explicit RCU grace period when freeing kioctx"); however, that fix is not enough. Suppose io_destroy() from one thread races with e.g. io_setup() from another; CPU1 removes the reference from current->mm->ioctx_table[...] just as CPU2 has picked it (under rcu_read_lock()). Then CPU1 proceeds to drop the refcount, getting it to 0 and triggering a call of free_ioctx_users(), which proceeds to drop the secondary refcount and once that reaches zero calls free_ioctx_reqs(). That does INIT_RCU_WORK(&ctx->free_rwork, free_ioctx); queue_rcu_work(system_wq, &ctx->free_rwork); and schedules freeing the whole thing after RCU delay. In the meanwhile CPU2 has gotten around to percpu_ref_get(), bumping the refcount from 0 to 1 and returned the reference to io_setup(). Tejun's fix (that queue_rcu_work() in there) guarantees that ctx won't get freed until after percpu_ref_get(). Sure, we'd increment the counter before ctx can be freed. Now we are out of rcu_read_lock() and there's nothing to stop freeing of the whole thing. Unfortunately, CPU2 assumes that since it has grabbed the reference, ctx is *NOT* going away until it gets around to dropping that reference. The fix is obvious - use percpu_ref_tryget_live() and treat failure as miss. It's not costlier than what we currently do in normal case, it's safe to call since freeing *is* delayed and it closes the race window - either lookup_ioctx() comes before percpu_ref_kill() (in which case ctx->users won't reach 0 until the caller of lookup_ioctx() drops it) or lookup_ioctx() fails, ctx->users is unaffected and caller of lookup_ioctx() doesn't see the object in question at all.
