There were two paths in the code for "external" eeprom sources. The code in eeprom.c only handled the cases where the eeprom data was loaded via request_firmware. ahb.c and pci.c on the other hand had some duplicate code which was only used when the eeprom data was passed via ath9k_platform_data. When an NL80211_DISCONNECT is sent to cfg80211, the driver's cfg80211 disconnect function sets the sme_state to SME_DISCONNECTED before receiving a WMI_DISCONNECT_EVENT from the firmware. This caused cfg80211 to not know that the connection is disconnected because the driver fails to notify cfg80211 upon receiving WMI_DISCONNECT_EVENT from the firmware believing it is already disconnected. Even when the adapter is configured for CEC 1.4, we still check and use the CEC 2.0 parts of struct cec_log_addrs. Although these aren't used in CEC messages, the information contained in them is still of use in the CEC framework itself, so keep this information. Ensure that the unused part of the msg array is zeroed. This is required by CEC 2.0 when receiving shorter messages than expected. In that case the remaining bytes are assumed to be 0. There are no such CEC messages yet, but it is required to be future proof. And since we're doing it for received messages, do it for transmitted messages as well. It's unambiguous this way. The filehandle was set to NULL when in non-blocking mode or when no reply is needed. This is wrong: the filehandle is needed in non-blocking mode to ensure that the result of the transmit can be obtained through CEC_RECEIVE. And the 'reply' check was also incorrect since it should have checked the timeout field (the reply can be 0). In any case, when in blocking mode there is no need to set the fh to NULL either. 2016-07-19arm64: debug: unmask PSTATE.D earlierWill Deacon
Clearing PSTATE.D is one of the requirements for generating a debug exception. The arm64 booting protocol requires that PSTATE.D is set, since many of the debug registers (for example, the hw_breakpoint registers) are UNKNOWN out of reset and could potentially generate spurious, fatal debug exceptions in early boot code if PSTATE.D was clear. Once the debug registers have been safely initialised, PSTATE.D is cleared, however this is currently broken for two reasons: (1) The boot CPU clears PSTATE.D in a postcore_initcall and secondary CPUs clear PSTATE.D in secondary_start_kernel. Since the initcall runs after SMP (and the scheduler) have been initialised, there is no guarantee that it is actually running on the boot CPU. In this case, the boot CPU is left with PSTATE.D set and is not capable of generating debug exceptions. (2) In a preemptible kernel, we may explicitly schedule on the IRQ return path to EL1. If an IRQ occurs with PSTATE.D set in the idle thread, then we may schedule the kthread_init thread, run the postcore_initcall to clear PSTATE.D and then context switch back to the idle thread before returning from the IRQ. The exception return path will then restore PSTATE.D from the stack, and set it again. This patch fixes the problem by moving the clearing of PSTATE.D earlier to proc.S. This has the desirable effect of clearing it in one place for all CPUs, long before we have to worry about the scheduler or any exception handling. We ensure that the previous reset of MDSCR_EL1 has completed before unmasking the exception, so that any spurious exceptions resulting from UNKNOWN debug registers are not generated. Without this patch applied, the kprobes selftests have been seen to fail under KVM, where we end up attempting to step the OOL instruction buffer with PSTATE.D set and therefore fail to complete the step. We currently define OBJCOPYFLAGS in the top-level arm64 Makefile, and thus these flags will be passed to all uses of objcopy, kernel-wide, for which they are not explicitly overridden. The flags we set are intended for converting vmlinux (and ELF) into Image (a raw binary), and thus the flags chosen are problematic for some other uses which do not expect a raw binary result, e.g. the upcoming lkdtm rodata test: http://www.openwall.com/lists/kernel-hardening/2016/06/08/2 This patch localises the objcopy flags such that they are only used for the vmlinux -> Image conversion. 2016-07-19arm64: Add trampoline code for kretprobesWilliam Cohen
The trampoline code is used by kretprobes to capture a return from a probed function. This is done by saving the registers, calling the handler, and restoring the registers. The code then returns to the original saved caller return address. It is necessary to do this directly instead of using a software breakpoint because the code used in processing that breakpoint could itself be kprobe'd and cause a problematic reentry into the debug exception handler. Kprobes needs simulation of instructions that cannot be stepped from a different memory location, e.g.: those instructions that uses PC-relative addressing. In simulation, the behaviour of the instruction is implemented using a copy of pt_regs. The following instruction categories are simulated: - All branching instructions(conditional, register, and immediate) - Literal access instructions(load-literal, adr/adrp) Conditional execution is limited to branching instructions in ARM v8. 2016-07-19arm64: Kprobes with single stepping supportSandeepa Prabhu
Add support for basic kernel probes(kprobes) and jump probes (jprobes) for ARM64. Kprobes utilizes software breakpoint and single step debug exceptions supported on ARM v8. A software breakpoint is placed at the probe address to trap the kernel execution into the kprobe handler. ARM v8 supports enabling single stepping before the break exception return (ERET), with next PC in exception return address (ELR_EL1). The kprobe handler prepares an executable memory slot for out-of-line execution with a copy of the original instruction being probed, and enables single stepping. The PC is set to the out-of-line slot address before the ERET. With this scheme, the instruction is executed with the exact same register context except for the PC (and DAIF) registers. Debug mask (PSTATE.D) is enabled only when single stepping a recursive kprobe, e.g.: during kprobes reenter so that probed instruction can be single stepped within the kprobe handler -exception- context. The recursion depth of kprobe is always 2, i.e. upon probe re-entry, any further re-entry is prevented by not calling handlers and the case counted as a missed kprobe). Single stepping from the x-o-l slot has a drawback for PC-relative accesses like branching and symbolic literals access as the offset from the new PC (slot address) may not be ensured to fit in the immediate value of the opcode. Such instructions need simulation, so reject probing them. Instructions generating exceptions or cpu mode change are rejected for probing. Exclusive load/store instructions are rejected too. Additionally, the code is checked to see if it is inside an exclusive load/store sequence (code from Pratyush). System instructions are mostly enabled for stepping, except MSR/MRS accesses to "DAIF" flags in PSTATE, which are not safe for probing. This also changes arch/arm64/include/asm/ptrace.h to use include/asm-generic/ptrace.h. Thanks to Steve Capper and Pratyush Anand for several suggested Changes. When disabling tethering after having enabled it, the ath6kl driver does not set the IFF_LOWER_UP flag to 0 (carrier off) on the wlan interface. The upper layers (eg. connman) are not notified of the tethering mode status change. So, tethering can not be activated anymore. One minute after a successful connection, the kernel checks if the frequency and the channel width are well configured for the country we are in. (regulatory domain) ath6kl driver was setting the NL80211_CHAN_HT20 channel without checking for the HT capabilities. (we should have NL80211_CHAN_NO_HT in our case because the firmware did not support HT) This patch adds a check on ht_cap.ht_supported in order to create the channel corresponding to the firmware capabilities. 2016-07-19ath6kl: Fix WLAN tethering authentication problem.Pierre Le Magourou
When enabling WLAN tethering, a new AP is visible and a STA could connect to it. When the STA tries to authenticate to the newly created AP, the WPA authentication mechanism is stuck in the 1/4 msg of 4-Way Handshake. In ath6kl_rx(), the ath6kl_find_sta() function is looking for the h_source field of the Ethernet frame header received by the STA. The datap pointer that points to the Ethernet frame header is incorrect, and was pointing at the wrong offset in the buffer. This commit adds a pad_before_data_start offset to set the datap pointer to the Ethernet frame header. datap->h_source parameter is now really pointing to the source ethernet address and the authentication process can continue. tick_nohz_start_idle is called before checking whether the idle tick can be stopped. If the tick cannot be stopped, calling tick_nohz_start_idle() is pointless and just wasting CPU cycles. Only invoke tick_nohz_start_idle() when can_stop_idle_tick() returns true. A short one minute observation of the effect on ARM64 shows a reduction of calls by 1.5% thus optimizing the idle entry sequence.
