2020-03-02perf env: Do not return pointers to local variablesArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
It is possible to return a pointer to a local variable when looking up the architecture name for the running system and no normalization is done on that value, i.e. we may end up returning the uts.machine local variable. While this doesn't happen on most arches, as normalization takes place, lets fix this by making that a static variable and optimize it a bit by not always running uname(), only the first time. 2020-03-02media: go7007: Fix URB type for interrupt handlingTakashi Iwai
Josef reported that his old-and-good Plextor ConvertX M402U video converter spews lots of WARNINGs on the recent kernels, and it turned out that the device uses a bulk endpoint for interrupt handling just like 2250 board. 2020-03-02io-wq: fix IO_WQ_WORK_NO_CANCEL cancellationPavel Begunkov
To cancel a work, io-wq sets IO_WQ_WORK_CANCEL and executes the callback. However, IO_WQ_WORK_NO_CANCEL works will just execute and may return next work, which will be ignored and lost. 2020-03-02media: Split v4l2_pipeline_pm_use into v4l2_pipeline_pm_{get, put}Ezequiel Garcia
Currently, v4l2_pipeline_pm_use() prototype is: int v4l2_pipeline_pm_use(struct media_entity *entity, int use) Where the 'use' argument shall only be set to '1' for enable/power-on, or to '0' for disable/power-off. The integer return is specified as only meaningful when 'use' is set to '1'. Let's enforce this semantic by splitting the function in two: v4l2_pipeline_pm_get and v4l2_pipeline_pm_put. This is done for several reasons. It makes the API easier to use (or harder to misuse). It removes the constraint on the values the 'use' argument shall take. Also, it removes the need to constraint the return value, by making v4l2_pipeline_pm_put void return. And last, it's more consistent with other kernel APIs, such as the runtime pm APIs, which makes the code more symmetric. 2020-03-02media: usbvision: deprecate driverHans Verkuil
The driver is deprecated and scheduled for removal by the end of 2020. The reason is that this driver is for old and obsolete hardware, and it produces a continuous stream of syzbot errors due to poor code. In order to prevent removal the following actions would have to be taken: - clean up the code - convert to the vb2 framework - fix the disconnect and free-on-last-user handling (i.e., add a release callback for struct v4l2_device and rework the code to use that correctly). 2020-03-02Documentation: cpufreq: Move legacy driver documentationRafael J. Wysocki
There are three legacy driver documents in Documentation/cpu-freq/ that were added years ago and converting them each to the .rst format is rather pointless, even though there is some value in preserving them. However, if they are preserved, they need to go into the admin-guide part of cpufreq documentation where they belong (at least to a certain extent). To preserve them with minimum amount of changes and put them into the right place, and make it possible to process them into HTML (and other formats) along with the rest of the documentation, move them each as a "literal text" block into a separate section of a single .rst "wrapper" file under Documentation/admin-guide/pm/. If the boot EC comes from the DSDT, its ACPI handle is equal to the handle of a device object with the PNP0C09 device ID. If that device object is passed to acpi_ec_add(), it is not necessary to allocate a new EC structure for it and parse it, because that has been done already, so change the function to use the fast path in that case. First, notice that if the device ID in acpi_ec_add() is equal to ACPI_ECDT_HID, boot_ec_is_ecdt must be set, because this means that the device object passed to acpi_ec_add() comes from acpi_ec_ecdt_start() which fails if boot_ec_is_ecdt is unset. Accordingly, boot_ec_is_ecdt need not be set again in that case, so drop that redundant update of it from the code. Next, ec->handle must be a valid ACPI handle right before returning 0 from acpi_ec_add(), because it either is the handle of the device object passed to that function, or it is the boot EC handle coming from acpi_ec_ecdt_start() which fails if it cannot find a valid handle for the boot EC. Moreover, the object with that handle is regarded as a valid representation of the EC in all cases, so there is no reason to avoid the _DEP list update walk if that handle is the boot EC handle. Accordingly, drop the dep_update local variable from acpi_ec_add() and call acpi_walk_dep_device_list() for ec->handle unconditionally before returning 0 from it. Finally, the ec local variable in acpi_ec_add() need not be initialized to NULL and the status local variable declaration can be moved to the block in which it is used, so change the code in accordance with these observations. 2020-03-02drm/i915: Protect i915_request_await_start from early waitsChris Wilson
We need to be extremely careful inside i915_request_await_start() as it needs to walk the list of requests in the foreign timeline with very little protection. As we hold our own timeline mutex, we can not nest inside the signaler's timeline mutex, so all that remains is our RCU protection. However, to be safe we need to tell the compiler that we may be traversing the list only under RCU protection, and furthermore we need to start declaring requests as elements of the timeline from their construction. Wa_1608008084 is an additional WA that applies to writes on FF_MODE2 register. We can't read it back either from CPU or GPU. Since the other bits should be 0, recommendation to handle Wa_1604555607 is to actually just write the timer value. 2020-03-02media: rc: iguanair: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array memberGustavo A. R. Silva
The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. 2020-03-02drm/i915/psr: Force PSR probe only after full initializationJosé Roberto de Souza
Commit 60c6a14b489b ("drm/i915/display: Force the state compute phase once to enable PSR") was forcing the state compute too earlier causing errors because not everything was initialized, so here moving to the end of i915_driver_modeset_probe() when the display is all initialized. Also fixing the place where it disarm the force probe as during the atomic check phase errors could happen like the ones due locking and it would cause PSR to never be enabled if that happens. After bnxt_hwrm_do_send_message() was updated to return standard error codes in a recent commit, a regression in bnxt_flash_package_from_file() was introduced. The return value does not properly reflect all possible firmware errors when calling firmware to flash the package. 2020-03-01bnxt_en: reinitialize IRQs when MTU is modifiedVasundhara Volam
MTU changes may affect the number of IRQs so we must call bnxt_close_nic()/bnxt_open_nic() with the irq_re_init parameter set to true. The reason is that a larger MTU may require aggregation rings not needed with smaller MTU. We may not be able to allocate the required number of aggregation rings and so we reduce the number of channels which will change the number of IRQs. 2020-03-01net: phy: avoid clearing PHY interrupts twice in irq handlerHeiner Kallweit
On all PHY drivers that implement did_interrupt() reading the interrupt status bits clears them. This means we may loose an interrupt that is triggered between calling did_interrupt() and phy_clear_interrupt(). As part of the fix make it a requirement that did_interrupt() clears the interrupt.
