2017-06-21perf/aux: Correct return code of rb_alloc_aux() if !has_aux(ev)Hendrik Brueckner
If the event for which an AUX area is about to be allocated, does not support setting up an AUX area, rb_alloc_aux() return -ENOTSUPP. This error condition is being returned unfiltered to the user space, and, for example, the perf tools fails with: failed to mmap with 524 (INTERNAL ERROR: strerror_r(524, 0x3fff497a1c8, 512)=22) This error can be easily seen with "perf record -m 128,256 -e cpu-clock". The 524 error code maps to -ENOTSUPP (in rb_alloc_aux()). The -ENOTSUPP error code shall be only used within the kernel. So the correct error code would then be -EOPNOTSUPP. With this commit, the perf tool then reports: failed to mmap with 95 (Operation not supported) which is more clear. CONFIG_GENERIC_TIME_VSYSCALL_OLD was introduced five years ago to allow a transition from the old vsyscall implementations to the new method (which simplified internal accounting and made timekeeping more precise). 2017-06-20blk-mq: Warn when attempting to run a hardware queue that is not mappedBart Van Assche
A queue must be frozen while the mapped state of a hardware queue is changed. Additionally, any change of the mapped state is followed by a call to blk_mq_map_swqueue() (see also blk_mq_init_allocated_queue() and blk_mq_update_nr_hw_queues()). Since blk_mq_map_swqueue() does not map any unmapped hardware queue onto any software queue, no attempt will be made to run an unmapped hardware queue. Hence issue a warning upon attempts to run an unmapped hardware queue. 2017-06-20block: Document what queue type each function is intended forBart Van Assche
Some functions in block/blk-core.c must only be used on blk-sq queues while others are safe to use against any queue type. Document which functions are intended for blk-sq queues and issue a warning if the blk-sq API is misused. This does not only help block driver authors but will also make it easier to remove the blk-sq code once that code is declared obsolete. 2017-06-20blk-mq: Initialize .rq_flags in blk_mq_rq_ctx_init()Bart Van Assche
Initialization of blk-mq requests is a bit weird: blk_mq_rq_ctx_init() is called after a value has been assigned to .rq_flags and .rq_flags is initialized in __blk_mq_finish_request(). Initialize .rq_flags in blk_mq_rq_ctx_init() instead of relying on __blk_mq_finish_request(). Moving the initialization of .rq_flags is fine because all changes and tests of .rq_flags occur between blk_get_request() and finishing a request. Instead of explicitly calling scsi_req_init() after blk_get_request(), call that function from inside blk_get_request(). Add an .initialize_rq_fn() callback function to the block drivers that need it. Merge the IDE .init_rq_fn() function into .initialize_rq_fn() because it is too small to keep it as a separate function. Keep the scsi_req_init() call in ide_prep_sense() because it follows a blk_rq_init() call. Today, the type of a PowerNV sensor system is determined with the "compatible" property for legacy Firmwares and with the "sensor-type" for newer ones. The same array of strings is used for both to do the matching and this raises some issue to introduce new sensor types. Let's introduce two different arrays (legacy and current) to make things easier for new sensor types. 2017-06-20null_blk: add support for shared tagsJens Axboe
Some storage drivers need to share tag sets between devices. It's useful to be able to model that with null_blk, to find hangs or performance issues. Add a 'shared_tags' bool module parameter that. gic_read_count(), gic_write_compare() and gic_write_cpu_compare() are often used in a sequence to update the compare register with a count value increased by a small offset. With small delta values used to update the compare register, the time to update function trace for these operations may be longer than the update timeout leading to update failure. When having the skb pointer in the first descriptor, stmmac_tx_clean can get called at a moment where the IP has only cleared the own bit of the first descriptor, thus freeing the skb, even though there can be several descriptors whose buffers point into the same skb. By simply moving the skb pointer from the first descriptor to the last descriptor, a skb will get freed only when the IP has cleared the own bit of all the descriptors that are using that skb. 2017-06-20ipv6: Do not leak throw route referencesSerhey Popovych
While commit 73ba57bfae4a ("ipv6: fix backtracking for throw routes") does good job on error propagation to the fib_rules_lookup() in fib rules core framework that also corrects throw routes handling, it does not solve route reference leakage problem happened when we return -EAGAIN to the fib_rules_lookup() and leave routing table entry referenced in arg->result. If rule with matched throw route isn't last matched in the list we overwrite arg->result losing reference on throw route stored previously forever. We also partially revert commit ab997ad40839 ("ipv6: fix the incorrect return value of throw route") since we never return routing table entry with dst.error == -EAGAIN when CONFIG_IPV6_MULTIPLE_TABLES is on. Also there is no point to check for RTF_REJECT flag since it is always set throw route. The expiry time of a posix cpu timer is supplied through sys_timer_set() via a struct timespec. The timespec is validated for correctness. In the actual set timer implementation the timespec is converted to a scalar nanoseconds value. If the tv_sec part of the time spec is large enough the conversion to nanoseconds (sec * NSEC_PER_SEC) overflows 64bit. Mitigate that by using the timespec_to_ktime() conversion function, which checks the tv_sec part for a potential mult overflow and clamps the result to KTIME_MAX, which is about 292 years.
