This hooks dtc into Kbuild's dependency system.
Thus, for example, "make dtbs" will rebuild tegra-harmony.dtb if only
tegra20.dtsi has changed yet tegra-harmony.dts has not. The previous
lack of this feature recently caused me to have very confusing "git
bisect" results.
For ARM, it's obvious what to add to $(targets). I'm not familiar enough
with other architectures to know what to add there. Powerpc appears to
already add various .dtb files into $(targets), but the other archs may
need something added to $(targets) to work.

devm_ functions allocate memory that is to remain allocated until the
device is detached. This patch checks for freeing of such memory using
standard memory freeing functions.

I find every time when I choice the 'NO' button at the dialog
which let me choice whether to save the configuration before exit
menuconfig, it always report the blow:

Arnaud Lacombe pointed out the final checking that the requested configs
were included in the final .config was broken.
The example was that if you had a fragment that disabled
CONFIG_DECOMPRESS_GZIP applied to a normal defconfig, there would be no
final warning that CONFIG_DECOMPRESS_GZIP was acutally set in the final
.config.
This bug was introduced by me in v3 of the original patch, and the
following patch reverts the invalid change.

The SIGHUP SIGINT and SIGTERM names caused failures when running
merge_config.sh with the dash shell. Dropping the "SIG" component makes
the script work in both bash and dash.

After noticing almost every distro has their own method of managing config
fragments, I went looking at some best practices, and wanted to try to
consolidate some of the different approaches so this fairly simple
infrastructure can be shared (and new distros/build systems don't have to
implement yet another config fragment merge script).
This script is most influenced by the Windriver tools used in the Yocto
Project, reusing some portions found there.
This script merges multiple config fragments, warning on any overridden
values. It then sets any unspecified values to their default, then
finally checks to make sure no specified value was dropped due to
unsatisfied dependencies.
I'm sure this implementation won't work for everyone, and I expect it will
need to evolve to adapt for various use cases. But I think its a
reasonable starting point.

The existing gpio_to_irq() implementation on sa1100 only translates
validly for internal GPIOs. Since this sub-arch enables GPIOLIB
support, this results in buggy translations for non-internal GPIOs.
Get rid of the private gpio_to_irq() implementation, replacing it
with the .to_irq method in the sa1100 gpio chip instead.

Since commit 080d676de095 ("aio: allocate kiocbs in batches") iocbs are
allocated in a batch during processing of first iocbs. All iocbs in a
batch are automatically added to ctx->active_reqs list and accounted in
ctx->reqs_active.
If one (not the last one) of iocbs submitted by an user fails, further
iocbs are not processed, but they are still present in ctx->active_reqs
and accounted in ctx->reqs_active. This causes process to stuck in a D
state in wait_for_all_aios() on exit since ctx->reqs_active will never
go down to zero. Furthermore since kiocb_batch_free() frees iocb
without removing it from active_reqs list the list become corrupted
which may cause oops.
Fix this by removing iocb from ctx->active_reqs and updating
ctx->reqs_active in kiocb_batch_free().

Commit 8a25a2fd126c ("cpu: convert 'cpu' and 'machinecheck' sysdev_class
to a regular subsystem") changed how things are dealt with in the MCE
subsystem. Some of the things that got broken due to this are CPU
hotplug and suspend/hibernate.
MCE uses per_cpu allocations of struct device. So, when a CPU goes
offline and comes back online, in order to ensure that we start from a
clean slate with respect to the MCE subsystem, zero out the entire
per_cpu device structure to 0 before using it.

For compressed image, the space required is not known until
we finish compressing and writing all pages.
This patch drops the check, and if swap space is not enough
finally, system can still restore to normal after writing
swap fails for compressed images.

The governor functions in drivers/base/power/domain_governor.c
are only used if CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME is set and they refer to data
structures that are only present in that case. For this reason,
they shouldn't be compiled at all when CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME is not set.

Some callback functions defined in drivers/base/power/domain.c are
only necessary if CONFIG_PM_SLEEP is set and they call some other
functions that are only available in that case. For this reason,
they should not be compiled at all when CONFIG_PM_SLEEP is not set.

After commit 1eb208aea3179dd2fc0cdeea45ef869d75b4fe70, "PM: Make
CONFIG_PM depend on (CONFIG_PM_SLEEP || CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME)", the
files under kernel/power are not built unless CONFIG_PM_SLEEP or
CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME is set. In particular, this causes
kernel/power/poweroff.c to be omitted, even though it should be
compiled, because CONFIG_MAGIC_SYSRQ is set.
Fix the problem by causing kernel/power/Makefile to be processed
for CONFIG_PM unset too.

Thomas Lange reported that when he did a 'make localmodconfig', his
config was missing the brcmsmac driver, even though he had the module
loaded.
Looking into this, I found the file:
drivers/net/wireless/brcm80211/brcmsmac/Makefile
had the following in the Makefile:
MODULEPFX := brcmsmac
obj-$(CONFIG_BRCMSMAC) += $(MODULEPFX).o
The way streamline-config.pl works, is parsing all the
obj-$(CONFIG_FOO) += foo.o
lines to find that CONFIG_FOO belongs to the module foo.ko.
But in this case, the brcmsmac.o was not used, but a variable in its place.
By changing streamline-config.pl to remember defined variables in Makefiles
and substituting them when they are used in the obj-X lines, allows
Thomas (and others) to have their brcmsmac module stay configured
when it is loaded and running "make localmodconfig".

When userspace attempts to authorize a station
that is already authorized, nothing happens as
you'd expect. Similarly, when it unauthorizes
a station that is associated, nothing happens.
However, when it unauthorizes a station that
isn't even associated yet, we erroneously try
to move the station to associated. This seems
to happen occasionally as a result of a race
when wpa_supplicant attempts to unauthorize
the port in managed mode. Particularly with my
new patches to keep stations, it can then move
a station into ASSOCIATED state before we have
really associated, which is really confusing.

Same devices can generate interrupt without properly setting bit in
INT_SOURCE_CSR register (spurious interrupt), what will cause IRQ line
will be disabled by interrupts controller driver.
We discovered that clearing INT_MASK_CSR stops such behaviour. We
previously first read that register, and then clear all know interrupt
sources bits and do not touch reserved bits. After this patch, we write
to all register content (I believe writing to reserved bits on that
register will not cause any problems, I tested that on my rt2800pci
device).
This fix very bad performance problem, practically making device
unusable (since worked without interrupts), reported in:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=658451
We previously tried to workaround that issue in commit
4ba7d9997869d25bd223dea7536fc1ce9fab3b3b "rt2800pci: handle spurious
interrupts", but it was reverted in commit
82e5fc2a34fa9ffea38f00c4066b7e600a0ca5e6
as thing, that will prevent to detect real spurious interrupts.

This is basically just a cleanup. Large positive numbers get counted as
negative but then get implicitly cast to positive again for the checks
that matter.
This does make a small difference in ipw_handle_promiscuous_rx() when we
test "if (unlikely((len + IPW_RX_FRAME_SIZE) > skb_tailroom(rxb->skb)))"
It should return there, but we don't return until a couple lines later
when we test "if (len > IPW_RX_BUF_SIZE - sizeof(struct ipw_rt_hdr)) {".
The difference is that in the second test the sizeof() means that there
is an implied cast to unsigned.

An Oops has once been observed, when the SDIO card had been ejected during
IO. The PC value shows, that the dev pointer in b43_op_stop() was NULL.

By adding some module aliases, programs (or users) won't have to explicitly
call modprobe. Vhost-net will always be available if built into the kernel.
It does require assigning a permanent minor number for depmod to work.
Also:
- use C99 style initialization.
- add missing entry in documentation for loop-control

This wrapper isn't overly useful, not to say rather confusing.
Around the call to xfs_itruncate_extents it does:
- add tracing
- add a few asserts in debug builds
- conditionally update the inode size in two places
- log the inode
Both the tracing and the inode logging can be moved to xfs_itruncate_extents
as they are useful for the attribute fork as well - in fact the attr code
already does an equivalent xfs_trans_log_inode call just after calling
xfs_itruncate_extents. The conditional size updates are a mess, and there
was no reason to do them in two places anyway, as the first one was
conditional on the inode having extents - but without extents we
xfs_itruncate_extents would be a no-op and the placement wouldn't matter
anyway. Instead move the size assignments and the asserts that make sense
to the callers that want it.
As a side effect of this clean up xfs_setattr_size by introducing variables
for the old and new inode size, and moving the size updates into a common
place.

Several platforms are now using the memblock_alloc+memblock_free+
memblock_remove trick to obtain memory which won't be mapped in the
kernel's page tables. Most platforms do this (correctly) in the
->reserve callback. However, OMAP has started to call these functions
outside of this callback, and this is extremely unsafe - memory will
not be unmapped, and could well be given out after memblock is no
longer responsible for its management.
So, provide arm_memblock_steal() to perform this function, and ensure
that it panic()s if it is used inappropriately. Convert everyone
over, including OMAP.
As a result, OMAP with OMAP4_ERRATA_I688 enabled will panic on boot
with this change. Mark this option as BROKEN and make it depend on
BROKEN. OMAP needs to be fixed, or 137d105d50 (ARM: OMAP4: Fix
errata i688 with MPU interconnect barriers.) reverted until such
time it can be fixed correctly.

Before commit 56e46742e846e4de167dde0e1e1071ace1c882a5 we have had locking
around all printing macros and we could use static buffers for creating
key strings and printing them. However, now we do not have that locking and
we cannot use static buffers. This commit removes the old DBGKEY() macros
and introduces few new helper macros for printing debugging messages plus
a key at the end. Thankfully, all the messages are already structures in
a way that the key is printed in the end.
