2014-01-15etherdevice: Use ether_addr_copy to copy an Ethernet addressJoe Perches
Some systems can use the normally known u16 alignment of Ethernet addresses to save some code/text bytes and cycles. This does not change currently emitted code on x86 by gcc 4.8. Signed-off-by: Joe Perches <joe@perches.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2014-01-15net: move 6lowpan compression code to separate moduleDmitry Eremin-Solenikov
IEEE 802.15.4 and Bluetooth networking stacks share 6lowpan compression code. Instead of introducing Makefile/Kconfig hacks, build this code as a separate module referenced from both ieee802154 and bluetooth modules. This fixes the following build error observed in some kernel configurations: net/built-in.o: In function `header_create': 6lowpan.c:(.text+0x166149): undefined reference to `lowpan_header_compress' net/built-in.o: In function `bt_6lowpan_recv': (.text+0x166b3c): undefined reference to `lowpan_process_data' Reported-by: Randy Dunlap <rdunlap@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Dmitry Eremin-Solenikov <dmitry_eremin@mentor.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2014-01-15net: rename sysfs symlinks on device name changeVeaceslav Falico
Currently, we don't rename the upper/lower_ifc symlinks in /sys/class/net/*/ , which might result stale/duplicate links/names. Fix this by adding netdev_adjacent_rename_links(dev, oldname) which renames all the upper/lower interface's links to dev from the upper/lower_oldname to the new name. We don't need a rollback because only we control these symlinks and if we fail to rename them - sysfs will anyway complain. 2014-01-16md/raid5: fix long-standing problem with bitmap handling on write failure.NeilBrown
Before a write starts we set a bit in the write-intent bitmap. When the write completes we clear that bit if the write was successful to all devices. However if the write wasn't fully successful we should not clear the bit. If the faulty drive is subsequently re-added, the fact that the bit is still set ensure that we will re-write the data that is missing. This logic is mediated by the STRIPE_DEGRADED flag - we only clear the bitmap bit when this flag is not set. Currently we correctly set the flag if a write starts when some devices are failed or missing. But we do *not* set the flag if some device failed during the write attempt. This is wrong and can result in clearing the bit inappropriately. So: set the flag when a write fails. This bug has been present since bitmaps were introduces, so the fix is suitable for any -stable kernel. 2014-01-16md: check command validity early in md_ioctl().Nicolas Schichan
Verify that the cmd parameter passed to md_ioctl() is valid before doing anything. This fixes mddev->hold_active being set to 0 when an invalid ioctl command is passed to md_ioctl() before the array has been configured. Clearing mddev->hold_active in that case can lead to a livelock situation when an invalid ioctl number is given to md_ioctl() by a process when the mddev is currently being opened by another process: Process 1 Process 2 --------- --------- md_alloc() mddev_find() -> returns a new mddev with hold_active == UNTIL_IOCTL add_disk() -> sends KOBJ_ADD uevent (sees KOBJ_ADD uevent for device) md_open() md_ioctl(INVALID_IOCTL) -> returns ENODEV and clears mddev->hold_active md_release() md_put() -> deletes the mddev as hold_active is 0 md_open() mddev_find() -> returns a newly allocated mddev with mddev->gendisk == NULL -> returns with ERESTARTSYS (kernel restarts the open syscall) Signed-off-by: Nicolas Schichan <nschichan@freebox.fr> Signed-off-by: NeilBrown <neilb@suse.de>

2014-01-15perf: tools: Fix cross buildingMark Rutland
Currently the feature-checks Makefile does not inherit $(CC), and calls cc rather than $(CROSS_COMPILE)gcc. Thus the feature checks invoke the native toolchain rather than the cross toolchain, and can identify features as available when they are not. This can break the build. Additionally the native pkg-config is always called as opposed to $(CROSS_COMPILE)pkg-config, so the wrong flags and paths may be passed to the cross compiler. This patch passes CROSS_COMPILE down to the feature-checks Makefile, and forces its use. Additionally pkg-config is replaced with $(CROSS_COMPILE)pkg-config via a new $(PKG_CONFIG) variable. This patch has been build tested on x86_64 and arm. 2014-01-15vfio-pci: Use pci "try" reset interfaceAlex Williamson
PCI resets will attempt to take the device_lock for any device to be reset. This is a problem if that lock is already held, for instance in the device remove path. It's not sufficient to simply kill the user process or skip the reset if called after .remove as a race could result in the same deadlock. Instead, we handle all resets as "best effort" using the PCI "try" reset interfaces. This prevents the user from being able to induce a deadlock by triggering a reset. 2014-01-15PCI: Check parent kobject in pci_destroy_dev()Rafael J. Wysocki
If pci_stop_and_remove_bus_device() is run concurrently for a device and its parent bridge via remove_callback(), both code paths attempt to acquire pci_rescan_remove_lock. If the child device removal acquires it first, there will be no problems. However, if the parent bridge removal acquires it first, it will eventually execute pci_destroy_dev() for the child device, but that device object will not be freed yet due to the reference held by the concurrent child removal. Consequently, both pci_stop_bus_device() and pci_remove_bus_device() will be executed for that device unnecessarily and pci_destroy_dev() will see a corrupted list head in that object. Moreover, an excess put_device() will be executed for that device in that case which may lead to a use-after-free in the final kobject_put() done by sysfs_schedule_callback_work(). To avoid that problem, make pci_destroy_dev() check if the device's parent kobject is NULL, which only happens after device_del() has already run for it. Make pci_destroy_dev() return immediately whithout doing anything in that case. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com>
2014-01-15xen/pcifront: Use global PCI rescan-remove lockingRafael J. Wysocki
Multiple race conditions are possible between the Xen pcifront device addition and removal and the generic PCI device addition and removal that can be triggered via sysfs. To avoid those race conditions make the Xen pcifront code use global PCI rescan-remove locking. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. 2014-01-15powerpc/eeh: Use global PCI rescan-remove lockingRafael J. Wysocki
Race conditions are theoretically possible between the PCI device addition and removal in the PPC64 PCI error recovery driver and the generic PCI bus rescan and device removal that can be triggered via sysfs. To avoid those race conditions make PPC64 PCI error recovery driver use global PCI rescan-remove locking around PCI device addition and removal. Signed-off-by: Rafael J.
