2013-09-03tile: eliminate no-op "noatomichash" boot argumentChris Metcalf
Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: use standard tile_bundle_bits type in traps.cChris Metcalf
We were rolling our own bundle_bits, which is unnecessary. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: simplify code referencing hypervisor API addressesChris Metcalf
There's no need to make up new ways of computing the addresses of the Tilera hypervisor APIs; just use the standard method of relying on the symbols to provide the addresses. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: change <asm/system.h> to <asm/switch_to.h> in commentsChris Metcalf
Also fix mentions of it in #error statements. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: mark pcibios_init() as __initChris Metcalf
It was bombed away because it was previously marked as __devinit, but it should be an __init function. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: check for correct compiler earlier in asm-offsets.cChris Metcalf
If we wait until after including a bunch of other files, we will have generated so much warning spew that it's hard to notice the error about using the wrong compiler. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: use standard 'generic-y' model for <asm/hw_irq.h>Chris Metcalf
Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: use asm-generic version of <asm/local64.h>Chris Metcalf
Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile PCI RC: add comment about "PCI hole" problemChris Metcalf
Explain the rationale of not overlapping the 64-bit DMA window with the PA range. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: remove DEBUG_EXTRA_FLAGS kernel config optionChris Metcalf
It isn't used any more by us now that the generic kernel build offers DEBUG_INFO_REDUCED, so just get rid of it. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: add virt_to_kpte() API and clean up and document behaviorChris Metcalf
We use virt_to_pte(NULL, va) a lot, which isn't very obvious. I added virt_to_kpte(va) as a more obvious wrapper function, that also validates the va as being a kernel adddress. And, I fixed the semantics of virt_to_pte() so that we handle the pud and pmd the same way, and we now document the fact that we handle the final pte level differently. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: support FRAME_POINTERChris Metcalf
Allow enabling frame pointer support; this makes it easier to hook into the various kernel features that claim they require it without having to add Kconfig conditionals everywhere (a la mips, ppc, s390, and microblaze). When enabled, it basically eliminates leaf functions as such, and stops optimizing tail and sibling calls. It adds around 3% to the size of the kernel when enabled. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: support reporting Tilera hypervisor statisticsChris Metcalf
Newer hypervisors have an API for reporting per-cpu statistics information. This change allows seeing that information via /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuN/hv_stats file for each core. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tilegx: support KGDBChris Metcalf
Enter kernel debugger at boot with: --hvd UART_1=1 --hvx kgdbwait --hvx kgdboc=ttyS1,115200 or at runtime with: echo ttyS1,115200 > /sys/module/kgdboc/parameters/kgdboc echo g > /proc/sysrq-trigger Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tilegx: Add tty serial support for TILE-Gx on-chip UARTChris Metcalf
Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com> Acked-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
2013-09-03tilegx: provide kernel support for the tilegx UART shimChris Metcalf
The TILE-Gx chip includes an on-chip UART. This change adds support for using the UART from within the kernel. The UART shim has more functionality than is exposed here, but to keep the kernel code and binary simpler, this is a subset of the full API designed to enable a standard Linux tty serial driver only. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: parameterize VA and PA space more cleanlyChris Metcalf
The existing code relied on the hardware definition (<arch/chip.h>) to specify how much VA and PA space was available. It's convenient to allow customizing this for some configurations, so provide symbols MAX_PA_WIDTH and MAX_VA_WIDTH in <asm/page.h> that can be modified if desired. Additionally, move away from the MEM_XX_INTRPT nomenclature to define the start of various regions within the VA space. In fact the cleaner symbol is, for example, MEM_SV_START, to indicate the start of the area used for supervisor code; the actual address of the interrupt vectors is not as important, and can be changed if desired. As part of this change, convert from "intrpt1" nomenclature (which built in the old privilege-level 1 model) to a simple "intrpt". Also strip out some tilepro-specific code supporting modifying the PL the kernel could run at, since we don't actually support using different PLs in tilepro, only tilegx. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2013-09-03tile: don't assume user privilege is zeroChris Metcalf
Technically, user privilege is anything less than kernel privilege. We modify the existing user_mode() macro to have this semantic (and use it in a couple of places it wasn't being used before), and add an IS_KERNEL_EX1() macro to the assembly code as well. 2013-09-03NTB: Correct debugfs to work with more than 1 NTB DeviceJon Mason
Debugfs was setup in NTB to only have a single debugfs directory. This resulted in the leaking of debugfs directories and files when multiple NTB devices were present, due to each device stomping on the variables containing the previous device's values (thus preventing them from being freed on cleanup). Correct this by creating a secondary directory of the PCI BDF for each device present, and nesting the previously existing information in those directories. 2013-09-03tile: clean up relocate_kernel_64 debug codeChris Metcalf

2013-09-03NTB: Add Error Handling in ntb_device_setupJon Mason
If an error is encountered in ntb_device_setup, it is possible that the spci_cmd isn't populated. Writes to the offset can result in a NULL pointer dereference. This issue is easily encountered by running in NTB-RP mode, as it currently is not supported and will generate an error. To get around this issue, return if an error is encountered prior to attempting to write to the spci_cmd offset. Signed-off-by: Jon Mason <jon.mason@intel.com>

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/s390/linux Pull first batch of s390 updates from Martin Schwidefsky: "The most interesting change is that Martin converted s390 to generic hardirqs. Which means that all current architectures have been converted and that CONFIG_GENERIC_HARDIRQS can be removed. Martin prepared a patch for that already (see genirq branch), but the best time to merge that is probably at the end of the merge window / begin of -rc1. Another patch converts s390 to software referenced bits instead of relying on the reference bit in the storage key. Therefore s390 doesn't use storage keys anymore, except for kvm. 2013-09-03ipc/msg.c: Fix lost wakeup in msgsnd().Manfred Spraul
The check if the queue is full and adding current to the wait queue of pending msgsnd() operations (ss_add()) must be atomic. Otherwise: - the thread that performs msgsnd() finds a full queue and decides to sleep. - the thread that performs msgrcv() first reads all messages from the queue and then sleeps, because the queue is empty. - the msgrcv() calls do not perform any wakeups, because the msgsnd() task has not yet called ss_add(). - then the msgsnd()-thread first calls ss_add() and then sleeps. Net result: msgsnd() and msgrcv() both sleep forever. Observed with msgctl08 from ltp with a preemptible kernel. Fix: Call ipc_lock_object() before performing the check. The patch also moves security_msg_queue_msgsnd() under ipc_lock_object: - msgctl(IPC_SET) explicitely mentions that it tries to expunge any pending operations that are not allowed anymore with the new permissions. If security_msg_queue_msgsnd() is called without locks, then there might be races. - it makes the patch much simpler. 2013-09-03drm/i915: Fix pipe config warnings when dealing with LVDS fixed modeVille Syrjälä
intel_fixed_panel_mode() overwrote the adjusted_mode with the fixed mode only partially. Notably it forgot to copy over the sync flags. The LVDS code however programmed the hardware with the sync flags from fixed mode, and then later the pipe config comparison obviously failed as we filled out the adjusted_mode in get_config from the real registers. Just call drm_mode_copy() in intel_fixed_panel_mode() to copy over the whole thing, and then just use adjusted_mode in the LVDS code to figure out which sync settings the hardware needs. Also constify the fixed_mode argument to intel_fixed_panel_mode(). Signed-off-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch>

2013-09-03i915: Update VGA arbiter support for newer devicesAlex Williamson
This is intended to add VGA arbiter support for Intel HD graphics on Core processors. The old GMCH registers no longer exist, so even though it appears that i915 participates in VGA arbitration, it doesn't work. On Intel HD graphics we already attempt to disable VGA regions of the device. This makes registering as a VGA client unnecessary since we don't intend to operate differently depending on how many VGA devices are present. We can disable VGA memory regions by clearing the memory enable bit in the VGA MSR. That only leaves VGA IO, which we update the VGA arbiter to know that we don't participate in VGA memory arbitration. We also add a hook on unload to re-enable memory and reinstate VGA memory arbitration. v3: Use explicit LEGACY_IO | LEGACY_MEM when restoring rather than LEGACY_MASK, per Ville's comments. v2: I915_READ/WRITE accessors don't work in i915_disable_vga, use inb/outb directly. Also, on the driver unbind VGA enable path, acquire legacy IO to re-enable VGA memory. Correct comment. 2013-09-03vgaarb: Fix VGA decodes changesAlex Williamson
When VGA decodes change we need to do a bit more evaluation of exactly what has changed. We don't necessarily give up all the old owns resources and we need to account for resources with locks. The new algorithm is: If something is added, update decodes. If legacy resources were added and none were there before, we have a new participant. If something is removed, update decodes. If we previously owned it, we no longer own it. If it was previously locked, invalidate all locks and release it. If legacy resources were removed and none are left, remove the participant from VGA arbitration. Previously we updated decodes, released ownership of everything that was previously decoded, ignored all locks, and went off looking for another device to transfer VGA to. In a test case where Intel IGD removes only legacy VGA memory decoding, this left the arbiter switching to discrete graphics without actually disabling legacy VGA IO from the IGD. As a bonus, we bumped up the count of VGA arbitration participants for no good reason. 2013-09-03vgaarb: Don't disable resources that are not ownedAlex Williamson
If a device does not own a resource then we don't need to disable it. This resolves the case where an Intel IGD device can be configured to disable decode of VGA memory but we still need the arbiter to handle VGA I/O port routing. When the IGD device is in conflict, only PCI_COMMAND_IO should be disabled since VGA memory does not require arbitration on this device. 2013-09-03drm/i915: Pin pages whilst mapping the dma-bufChris Wilson
As we attempt to kmalloc after calling get_pages, there is a possibility that the shrinker may reap the pages we just acquired. To prevent this we need to increment the pages_pin_count early, so rearrange the code and error paths to make it so. 2013-09-03drm/i915: enable trickle feed on HaswellPaulo Zanoni
We shouldn't disable the trickle feed bits on Haswell. Our documentation explicitly says the trickle feed bits of PRI_CTL and CUR_CTL should not be programmed to 1, and the hardware engineer also asked us to not program the SPR_CTL field to 1. Leaving the bits as 1 could cause underflows. 2013-09-03x86: add early quirk for reserving Intel graphics stolen memory v5Jesse Barnes
Systems with Intel graphics controllers set aside memory exclusively for gfx driver use. This memory is not always marked in the E820 as reserved or as RAM, and so is subject to overlap from E820 manipulation later in the boot process. On some systems, MMIO space is allocated on top, despite the efforts of the "RAM buffer" approach, which simply rounds memory boundaries up to 64M to try to catch space that may decode as RAM and so is not suitable for MMIO. v2: use read_pci_config for 32 bit reads instead of adding a new one (Chris) add gen6 stolen size function (Chris) v3: use a function pointer (Chris) drop gen2 bits (Daniel) v4: call e820_sanitize_map after adding the region v5: fixup comments (Peter) simplify loop (Chris) Acked-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Jesse Barnes <jbarnes@virtuousgeek.org> Acked-by: H. 2013-09-03drm/i915: Use RCS flips on Ivybridge+Chris Wilson
RCS flips do work on Iybridge+ so long as we can unmask the messages through DERRMR. However, there are quite a few workarounds mentioned regarding unmasking more than one event or triggering more than one message through DERRMR. Those workarounds in principle prevent us from performing pipelined flips (and asynchronous flips across multiple planes) and equally apply to the "known good" BCS ring. Given that it already appears to work, and also appears to work with unmasking all 3 planes at once (and queuing flips across multiple planes), be brave. 2013-09-03drm/i915: Embed the ring->private within the struct intel_ring_bufferChris Wilson
We now have more devices using ring->private than not, and they all want the same structure. Worse, I would like to use a scratch page from outside of intel_ringbuffer.c and so for convenience would like to reuse ring->private.
