2010-01-16m68knommu: fix invalid flags on coldfire pit clocksourcejohn stultz
The m68knommu coldfire pit clocksource looks like it was incorrectly marked as a continuous clocksource. Running with it marked as a continuous clocksource could cause hangs when the system switches to highres mode or enables nohz. This patch removes the CLOCK_SOURCE_IS_CONTINUOUS flag on the coldfire pit clocksource. This will disallow systems using this clocksource from entering oneshot mode (disabling highres timers and nohz). When I try to use markup_oops.pl in x86, I always get: cat 1 | perl markup_oops.pl ./vmlinux objdump: --start-address: bad number: NaN No matching code found This is because in line: if ($line =~ /EIP is at ([a-zA-Z0-9\_]+)\+0x([0-9a-f]+)\/[a-f0-9]/) { $function = $1; $func_offset = $2; } $func_offset will get a number like "0x2" But in follow code: my $decodestart = Math::BigInt->from_hex("0x$target") - Math::BigInt->from_hex("0x$func_offset"); It add other ox to ox2. Then this value will be set to NaN. So I made a small patch to fix it. 2010-01-16perf: Export software-only event group characteristic as a flagFrederic Weisbecker
Before scheduling an event group, we first check if a group can go on. We first check if the group is made of software only events first, in which case it is enough to know if the group can be scheduled in. For that purpose, we iterate through the whole group, which is wasteful as we could do this check when we add/delete an event to a group. So we create a group_flags field in perf event that can host characteristics from a group of events, starting with a first PERF_GROUP_SOFTWARE flag that reduces the check on the fast path. 2010-01-16perf/core: Split context's event group list into pinned and non-pinned listsFrederic Weisbecker
Split-up struct perf_event_context::group_list into pinned_groups and flexible_groups (non-pinned). This first appears to be useless as it duplicates various loops around the group list handlings. But it scales better in the fast-path in perf_sched_in(). We don't anymore iterate twice through the entire list to separate pinned and non-pinned scheduling. Instead we interate through two distinct lists. The another desired effect is that it makes easier to define distinct scheduling rules on both. 2010-01-16perf record: Encode the domain while synthesizing MMAP eventsArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
In the past 'perf record' had to process only userspace MMAP events, the ones generated in the kernel, but after we reused the MMAP events to encode the module mapings we ended up adding them first to the list of userspace DSOs (dsos__user) and to the kernel one (dsos__kernel). Fix this by encoding the header.misc field and then using it, like other parts to decide the right DSOs list to insert/find. The gotcha here is that since the kernel puts zero in .misc, which isn't PERF_RECORD_MISC_KERNEL (1 << 1), to differentiate, we put 1 in .misc. This is often because acpi_early_processor_set_pdc lacks a __cpuinitdata annotation or the annotation of processor_idle_dmi_table is wrong. The only caller of acpi_early_processor_set_pdc() is acpi_bus_init() which is an "__init" function. So the correct fix here is to mark acpi_early_processor_set_pdc() "__init" too. 2010-01-16eeepc-laptop: disable cpu speed control on EeePC 701Alan Jenkins
The EeePC 4G ("701") implements CFVS, but it is not supported by the pre-installed OS, and the original option to change it in the BIOS setup screen was removed in later versions. Judging by the lack of "Super Hybrid Engine" on Asus product pages, this applies to all "701" models (4G/4G Surf/2G Surf). So Asus made a deliberate decision not to support it on this model. We have several reports that using it can cause the system to hang [1]. That said, it does not happen all the time. Some users do not experience it at all (and apparently wish to continue "right-clocking"). Check for the EeePC 701 using DMI. If met, then disable writes to the "cpufv" sysfs attribute and log an explanatory message. Add a "cpufv_disabled" attribute which allow users to override this policy. Writing to this attribute will log a second message. The sysfs attribute is more useful than a module option, because it makes it easier for userspace scripts to provide consistent behaviour (according to user configuration), regardless of whether the kernel includes this change.
