The ->grplo and ->grphi fields store the lowest and highest CPU number
covered by to a rcu_node structure, which is not the group number.
This commit therefore adjusts these fields' comments to match reality.

Because gp_max is protected by root rcu_node's lock, this commit moves
the gp_max definition to the region of the rcu_node structure containing
fields protected by this lock.

The count and scan can be separated in time, and there is a fair chance
that all work is already done when the scan starts, which might in turn
result in a needless retry. This commit therefore avoids this retry by
returning SHRINK_STOP.

The root cause is that the variable lastphase is a bool, but is

Currently, lockdep_rcu_suspicious() complains twice about RCU read-side
critical sections being invoked from within extended quiescent states,
for example:
RCU used illegally from idle CPU!
rcu_scheduler_active = 2, debug_locks = 1
RCU used illegally from extended quiescent state!
This commit therefore saves a couple lines of code and one line of
console-log output by eliminating the first of these two complaints.

Setting a tick dependency on any task, including the case where a task
sets that dependency on itself, triggers an IPI to all CPUs. That is
of course suboptimal but it had previously not been an issue because it
was only used by POSIX CPU timers on nohz_full, which apparently never
occurs in latency-sensitive workloads in production. (Or users of such
systems are suffering in silence on the one hand or venting their ire
on the wrong people on the other.)
But RCU now sets a task tick dependency on the current task in order
to fix stall issues that can occur during RCU callback processing.
Thus, RCU callback processing triggers frequent system-wide IPIs from
nohz_full CPUs. This is quite counter-productive, after all, avoiding
IPIs is what nohz_full is supposed to be all about.
This commit therefore optimizes tasks' self-setting of a task tick
dependency by using tick_nohz_full_kick() to avoid the system-wide IPI.
Instead, only the execution of the one task is disturbed, which is
acceptable given that this disturbance is well down into the noise
compared to the degree to which the RCU callback processing itself
disturbs execution.

On a PREEMPT=n kernel, the try_release_extent_mapping() function's

The different strings used for describing the polarity are
Start, End and StillNonIdle. Since StillIdle is not used in any trace
point for rcu_dyntick, it can be removed and StillNonIdle can be added
in the description. Because StillNonIdle is used in a few tracepoints for
rcu_dyntick.
Similarly, USER, IDLE and IRQ are used for describing context in
the rcu_dyntick tracepoints. Since, "KERNEL" is not used for any
of the rcu_dyntick tracepoints, remove it from the description.

The rcu_callback_map lockdep_map structure was added back in 2013, but
its purpose has become obscure. This commit therefore documments that the
purpose of rcu_callback map is, in the words of commit 24ef659a857 ("rcu:
Provide better diagnostics for blocking in RCU callback functions"),
to help lockdep to tie an "inappropriate voluntary context switch back
to the fact that the function is being invoked from within a callback."

This commit adds a count of the callbacks invoked to the per-CPU rcu_data
structure. This count is printed by the show_rcu_gp_kthreads() that
is invoked by rcutorture and the RCU CPU stall-warning code. It is also
intended for use by drgn.

There is only 1 bit set in mask, which means that the only difference
between oldmask and the new one will be at the position where the bit is
set in mask. This commit therefore updates rcu_state.ncpus by checking
whether the bit in mask is already set in rnp->expmaskinitnext.

The __wait_rcu_gp() function unconditionally initializes and cleans up
each element of rs_array[], whether used or not. This is slightly
wasteful and rather confusing, so this commit skips both initialization
and cleanup for duplicate callback functions.

Protecting the code in a trampoline can also require protecting a
number of instructions prior to actually entering the trampoline.
For example, these earlier instructions might be computing the address
of the trampoline. This commit therefore updates RCU's requirements to
record this for posterity.

Over the past few years, there have been several cases where timekeeping
bugs have caused RCU CPU stall warnings, particularly during hardware

Since changeset 58ad30cf91f0 ("docs: fix reference to core-api/namespaces.rst"),
auto-references for chapters are generated. This is a nice feature, but
has a drawback: no chapters can have the same sumber.
So, we need to add two higher hierarchy chapters on this document,
in order to avoid such duplication.

We don't drop the reference on the nfsdfs filesystem with
mntput(nn->nfsd_mnt) until nfsd_exit_net(), but that won't be called
until the nfsd module's unloaded, and we can't unload the module as long
as there's a reference on nfsdfs. So this prevents module unloading.

Commit f16861b12fa0 ("regulator: rename da903x to da903x-regulator") missed
to adjust the DIALOG SEMICONDUCTOR DRIVERS section in MAINTAINERS.
Hence, ./scripts/get_maintainer.pl --self-test=patterns complains:
warning: no file matches F: drivers/regulator/da903x.c
The da903x-regulator.c file is already covered by the pattern
drivers/regulator/da9???-regulator.[ch] in the section.
So, simply remove the non-matching file entry in MAINTAINERS.

It's not needed to set driver to NULL in mei_cl_device_remove()
which is bus_type remove() handler as this is done anyway
in __device_release_driver().
Actually this is causing an endless loop in driver_detach()
on ubuntu patched kernel, while removing (rmmod) the mei_hdcp module.
The reason list_empty(&drv->p->klist_devices.k_list) is always not-empty.
as the check is always true in __device_release_driver()

The non upstream patch is causing this behavior, titled:
'vfio -- release device lock before userspace requests'
Nevertheless the fix is correct also for the upstream.

Uninterruptible context is not needed in the driver and causes lockdep
warning because of mutex taken in of_alias_get_id(). Convert the lock to
mutex to avoid the issue.

When building on allyesconfig kernel for a NO_DMA=y platform (e.g.

Until recently, this warning was harmless (from a compile-testing
point-of-view), but the new user of q6afe_is_rx_port() turned this into
a hard failure.
As the QDSP6 driver itself builds fine if NO_DMA=y, and it depends on
QCOM_APR (which in turns depends on ARCH_QCOM || COMPILE_TEST), it is
safe to increase compile testing coverage. Hence fix the link failure
by dropping the HAS_DMA dependency of SND_SOC_QDSP6.

This reverts commit e9c15badbb7b ("fs: Do not check if there is a
fsnotify watcher on pseudo inodes"). The commit intended to eliminate
fsnotify-related overhead for pseudo inodes but it is broken in
concept. inotify can receive events of pipe files under /proc/X/fd and
chromium relies on close and open events for sandboxing. Maxim Levitsky
reported the following
Chromium starts as a white rectangle, shows few white rectangles that
resemble its notifications and then crashes.

Crashes are not universal but even if chromium does not crash, it certainly
does not work properly. While filtering just modify and access might be
safe, the benefit is not worth the risk hence the revert.

The testcase enables APF mechanism in MSR_KVM_ASYNC_PF_EN with ASYNC_PF_INT
enabled w/o setting MSR_KVM_ASYNC_PF_INT before, what's worse, interrupt
based APF 'page ready' event delivery depends on in kernel lapic, however,
we didn't bail out when lapic is not in kernel during guest setting
MSR_KVM_ASYNC_PF_EN which causes the null-ptr-deref in host later.
This patch fixes it.

Command line parameters might set static keys. This is true for s390 at
least since commit 6471384af2a6 ("mm: security: introduce init_on_alloc=1
and init_on_free=1 boot options"). To avoid the following WARN:
static_key_enable_cpuslocked(): static key 'init_on_alloc+0x0/0x40' used
before call to jump_label_init()
call jump_label_init() just before parse_early_param().
jump_label_init() is safe to call multiple times (x86 does that), doesn't
do any memory allocations and hence should be safe to call that early.

In usual IPL or hot plug scenarios a zPCI function transitions directly
from reserved (invisible to Linux) to configured state or is configured
by Linux itself using an SCLP, however it can also first go from
reserved to standby and then from standby to configured without
Linux initiative.
In this scenario we first get a PEC event 0x302 and then 0x301. This may
happen for example when the device is deconfigured at another LPAR and
made available for this LPAR. It may also happen under z/VM when
a device is attached while in some inconsistent state.
However when we get the 0x301 the device is already known to zPCI
so calling zpci_create() will add it twice resulting in the below
BUG. Instead we should only enable the existing device and finally
scan it through the PCI subsystem.

After pulling 5.7.0 (linux-next merge), mcf5441x mmu boot was
hanging silently.
memblock_add() seems not appropriate, since using MAX_NUMNODES
as node id, while memblock_add_node() sets up memory for node id 0.

The m68k nommu setup code didn't register the beginning of the physical
memory with memblock because it was anyway occupied by the kernel. However,
commit fa3354e4ea39 ("mm: free_area_init: use maximal zone PFNs rather than
zone sizes") changed zones initialization to use memblock.memory to detect
the zone extents and this caused inconsistency between zone PFNs and the
actual PFNs:

When the kernel panics, one page of kmsg data may be collected and sent to
Hyper-V to aid in diagnosing the failure. The collected kmsg data typically
contains 50 to 100 lines, each of which has a log level prefix that isn't
very useful from a diagnostic standpoint. So tell kmsg_dump_get_buffer()
to not include the log level, enabling more information that *is* useful to
fit in the page.
Requesting in stable kernels, since many kernels running in production are
stable releases.
