2011-07-29cpupowerutils - cpufrequtils extended with quite some featuresDominik Brodowski
CPU power consumption vs performance tuning is no longer limited to CPU frequency switching anymore: deep sleep states, traditional dynamic frequency scaling and hidden turbo/boost frequencies are tied close together and depend on each other. The first two exist on different architectures like PPC, Itanium and ARM, the latter (so far) only on X86. On X86 the APU (CPU+GPU) will only run most efficiently if CPU and GPU has proper power management in place. Users and Developers want to have *one* tool to get an overview what their system supports and to monitor and debug CPU power management in detail. The tool should compile and work on as many architectures as possible. 2011-07-29pcmcia: add PCMCIA_DEVICE_MANF_CARD_PROD_ID3Pavel Roskin
This is needed to match wireless cards with Intersil firmware that have ID 0x0156:0x0002 and the third ID "Version 01.02". Such cards are currently matched by orinoco_cs, which doesn't support WPA. They should be matched by hostap_cs. The first and the second product ID vary widely, so there are few users with some particular IDs. Of those, very few can submit a patch for hostap_cs or write a useful bugreport. It's still important to support their hardware properly. With PCMCIA_DEVICE_MANF_CARD_PROD_ID3, it should be possible to cover the remaining Intersil based designs that kept the numeric ID and the "version" of the reference design. 2011-07-28sparc: Sanitize cpu feature detection and reporting.David S. Miller
Instead of evaluating the cpu features for ELF_HWCAP every exec, calculate it once at boot time. Add AV_SPARC_* capability flag bits, compatible with what Solaris reports to applications. Report these capabilities once in the kernel log, and also via /proc/cpuinfo in a new "cpucaps" entry. In slave mode, the card can only detect the base frequency (32..48kHz) on the MADI link (exception: 96k frames), so the real external sample rate is this base frequency multiplied by 1, 2 or 4 depending on the speed mode. This patch enables 64..192kHz sample rates in clock slave mode, which failed before due to an alleged sample rate mismatch between the MADI link (e.g., 48kHz) and the application in DS/QS mode (e.g., 96kHz, 192kHz). 2011-07-28eCryptfs: Unlock keys needed by ecryptfsdTyler Hicks
Fixes a regression caused by b5695d04634fa4ccca7dcbc05bb4a66522f02e0b Kernel keyring keys containing eCryptfs authentication tokens should not be write locked when calling out to ecryptfsd to wrap and unwrap file encryption keys. The eCryptfs kernel code can not hold the key's write lock because ecryptfsd needs to request the key after receiving such a request from the kernel. Without this fix, all file opens and creates will timeout and fail when using the eCryptfs PKI infrastructure. This is not an issue when using passphrase-based mount keys, which is the most widely deployed eCryptfs configuration. The D-Link DGE-530T rev C1 is a re-badged Realtek 8169 named DLG10028C, unlike the previous revisions which were skge based. It is probably the same as the discontinued DGE-528T (0x4300) other than the PCI ID. The PCI ID is 0x1186:0x4302. Adding it to r8169.c where 0x1186:0x4300 is already found makes the card be detected and work. To support providing those values as lowest/highest attributes to the user, introduce virtual PMBus commands. Some PMBus chips have non-standard sensor registers. An easy way to support such sensors is to introduce virtual pages and map the non-standard registers into standard registers on an extra page. For this to work, the code verifying if the configured number of pages exists has to be removed. Since a wrong number of pages can only be configured in a front-end driver, this should not have a practical impact since the resulting errors should be found during development and testing. Also, functions to read the chip status while checking if a command register exists must be modified to no longer set the page register before reading the status, since the physical page associated with the checked register may not exist. This does not make a functional difference since the page was already set when the attempt to read the register was made. CB tuning is needed to handle potential process variations that might cause clock jitter for certain PLL settings. However, we were setting it incorrectly since we were using the wrong M value as a check (M1 when we needed to use the whole M value). Fix it up, making my HDMI attached display a little prettier (used to have occasional dots crawl across the display). On CougarPoint and PantherPoint PCH chips, the timing generator may fail to start after DP training completes. This is due to a bug in the FDI autotraining detect logic (which will stall the timing generator and re-enable it once training completes), so disable it to avoid silent DP mode setting failures. This reverts commit 885a50147f00a8a80108904bf58a18af357717f3. We actually *do* need to track DPMS state so that on hotplug, we don't retrain the link until DPMS is disabled. However, that code had avery small bug -- it wouldn't set the dpms_mode at mode set time, and so link retraining would not actually occur on monitor hotplug until the monitor had gone through a DPMS off/DPMS on cycle.
