2023-12-21gfs2: Use wait_event_freezable_timeout() for freezable kthreadKevin Hao
A freezable kernel thread can enter frozen state during freezing by either calling try_to_freeze() or using wait_event_freezable() and its variants. So for the following snippet of code in a kernel thread loop: try_to_freeze(); wait_event_interruptible_timeout(); We can change it to a simple wait_event_freezable_timeout() and then eliminate a function call. The kernel thread function gfs2_logd() and gfs2_quotad() invoke the try_to_freeze() in its loop. But all the kernel threads are no-freezable by default. So if we want to make a kernel thread to be freezable, we have to invoke set_freezable() explicitly. 2023-12-21docs: rust: remove `CC=clang` mentionsMiguel Ojeda
Nowadays all architectures except s390 recommend using `LLVM=1` instead of `CC=clang`, and since commit a3c6bfba4429 ("Documentation/llvm: refresh docs") the Kbuild LLVM documentation makes `LLVM=1` the way to go: We want to encourage the use of ``LLVM=1`` rather than just ``CC=clang``. Make that suggestion "above the fold" and "front and center" in our docs. In particular, that commit removes the examples with `CC=clang`. Thus do the same in the Rust Quick Start guide, i.e. remove the `CC=clang` mentions, especially since the architectures that have had their Rust support upstreamed (or soon to be upstreamed) are all `LLVM=1` ones. And perhaps by the time Rust is supported for s390 (or new architectures), it may have moved to `LLVM=1` anyway. Otherwise, this can be added back if needed (or perhaps an extra link to Documentation/kbuild/llvm.rst). This should also help avoiding potential confusion around `CC=clang` [1]. 2023-12-21ASoC: rt5645: Add a rt5645_components() helperHans de Goede
The rt5645 codec driver uses DMI quirks to configure the DMIC data-pins, which means that it knows which DMIC interface is used on a specific device. ATM we duplicate this DMI matching inside the UCM profiles to select the right DMIC interface. Add a rt5645_components() helper which the machine-driver can use to set the components string of the card so that UCM can get the info from the components string. 2023-12-21wifi: iwlwifi: assign phy_ctxt before eSR activationMiri Korenblit
eSR is activated when a chanctx is assigned to more than one link. During eSR activation we should disable RLC for both phys, and configure the FW with a special phy command for both phys. Currently we assign the phy_ctxt to the link only after eSR activation, so RLC is not disabled for the new phy_ctxt, and a cmd is not sent to FW. Fix this by first assigning the new phy_ctxt to the link and then doing the eSR activation. 2023-12-21wifi: mac80211: add a driver callback to check active_linksMiri Korenblit
During ieee80211_set_active_links() we do (among the others): 1. Call drv_change_vif_links() with both old_active and new_active 2. Unassign the chanctx for the removed link(s) (if any) 3. Assign chanctx to the added link(s) (if any) 4. Call drv_change_vif_links() with the new_active links bitmap The problem here is that during step #1 the driver doesn't know whether we will activate multiple links simultaneously or are just doing a link switch, so it can't check there if multiple links are supported/enabled. (Some of the drivers might enable/disable this option dynamically) And during step #3, in which the driver already knows that, returning an error code (for example when multiple links are not supported or disabled), will cause a warning, and we will still complete the transition to the new_active links. (It is hard to undo things in that stage, since we released channels etc.) Therefore add a driver callback to check if the desired new_active links will be supported by the driver or not. This callback will be called in the beginning of ieee80211_set_active_links() so we won't do anything before we are sure it is supported. 2023-12-21wifi: cfg80211: avoid double free if updating BSS failsBenjamin Berg
cfg80211_update_known_bss will always consume the passed IEs. As such, cfg80211_update_assoc_bss_entry also needs to always set the pointers to NULL so that no double free can occur.
