2013-08-25ACPI: blacklist win8 OSI for buggy laptopsFelipe Contreras
Since v3.7 the acpi backlight driver doesn't work correctly in several machines because ACPI code has different code for Windows 8, and the rest. The commit ea45ea7 (in v3.11-rc2) tried to fix this problem by using the intel backlight driver, however it introduced several other issues in different machines. This patch fixes both regressions by blacklisting the win8 OSI, so we are back to v3.6 behavior, and it should remain that way until the intel backlight driver is fixed. Since v3.7, users have been forced to fix the initial regression by modifying the boot arguments (acpi_osi="!Windows 2012"). Once the Intel backlight driver works correctly for all machines, this blacklist can be removed and that driver can be used instead. DEBUG_UNCOMPRESS was previously disallowed for Tegra due to tegra.S's use of global data that was not linked into the decompressor. Solve this by declaring this symbol in tegra.S when it is being built into the decompressor. For the kernel proper, leave the declaration in mach-tegra/common.c as explained in the comment. The generic option DEBUG_LL_UART_PL01X is now used to select the UART type for the kernel low-level debugging on the ep93xx platform. This enables two config options to provide the physical and virtual base address of the debug UART. Use the generic options instead of providing platform specific options to select the debug UART. UART1 is selected with: DEBUG_UART_PHYS = 0x808c0000 DEBUG_UART_VIRT = 0xfedc0000 UART2 is selected with: DEBUG_UART_PHYS = 0x808d0000 DEBUG_UART_VIRT = 0xfedd0000 UART3 is selected with: DEBUG_UART_PHYS = 0x808e0000 DEBUG_UART_VIRT = 0xfede0000 The selected UART must already be initialized by the bootloader. If it isn't setup nothing will appear (which might be desired). 2013-08-25ARM: debug: provide generic option choices for 8250 and PL01x portsRussell King
Provide generic option choices for 8250 and PL01x UART ports; these can now be selected by UART type rather than asking about the platform. This means that a kernel configuration user can manually choose the various parameters of the debug UART without resorting to the platform having to encode the possible settings. These two generic options are preferred over further debug entries for these ports; the existing options which refer back to the 8250 and PL01x ports are now considered deprecated. - Recommend that the kernel be placed under 128MiB, this is required if CONFIG_AUTO_ZRELADDR=y and good (or at least not bad) advice even if CONFIG_AUTO_ZRELADDR=n. - Recommend that a zImage kernel be placed above 32MiB, this avoids the need to relocate prior to decompression, which can speed up boot. - Add basic info on the requirements when loading a raw (non-zImage) kernel which are stricter than the zImage requirements. - Recommend that the DTB be placed after the 128MiB boundary, avoiding any potential conflict with the kernel decompressor, and within the lowmem region. In practice it could follow the kernel loaded after 32MiB, assuming the kernel decompesses to less than 32MiB, but the 128MiB recommendation is simple and unambiguous. - Add similar recommendation regarding initramfs. 2013-08-25ARM: 7822/1: add workaround for ambiguous C99 stdint.h typesArd Biesheuvel
The C99 types uintXX_t that are usually defined in 'stdint.h' are not as unambiguous on ARM as you would expect. The signatures of v3 and v4 packets change depending on the value of a hardware flag called 'crc_enabled'. The packet type detection must change accordingly. 2013-08-24drm/msm: add a3xx gpu supportRob Clark
Add initial support for a3xx 3d core. So far, with hardware that I've seen to date, we can have: + zero, one, or two z180 2d cores + a3xx or a2xx 3d core, which share a common CP (the firmware for the CP seems to implement some different PM4 packet types but the basics of cmdstream submission are the same) Which means that the eventual complete "class" hierarchy, once support for all past and present hw is in place, becomes: + msm_gpu + adreno_gpu + a3xx_gpu + a2xx_gpu + z180_gpu This commit splits out the parts that will eventually be common between a2xx/a3xx into adreno_gpu, and the parts that are even common to z180 into msm_gpu. Note that there is no cmdstream validation required. All memory access from the GPU is via IOMMU/MMU. So as long as you don't map silly things to the GPU, there isn't much damage that the GPU can do. 2013-08-24drm/msm: basic KMS driver for snapdragonRob Clark
The snapdragon chips have multiple different display controllers, depending on which chip variant/version. (As far as I can tell, current devices have either MDP3 or MDP4, and upcoming devices have MDSS.) And then external to the display controller are HDMI, DSI, etc. blocks which may be shared across devices which have different display controller blocks. To more easily add support for different display controller blocks, the display controller specific bits are split out into a "kms" module, which provides the kms plane/crtc/encoder objects. The external HDMI, DSI, etc. blocks are part encoder, and part connector currently. But I think I will pull in the drm_bridge patches from chromeos tree, and split them into a bridge+connector, with the registers that need to be set in modeset handled by the bridge. This would remove the 'msm_connector' base class. But some things need to be double checked to make sure I could get the correct ON/OFF sequencing.. The sysfs file for the driver was being created _after_ the device was announced to userspace, causing a race with any tools looking for sysfs files.
