2023-06-06virtio_net: use control_buf for coalesce paramsBrett Creeley
Commit 699b045a8e43 ("net: virtio_net: notifications coalescing support") added coalescing command support for virtio_net. However, the coalesce commands are using buffers on the stack, which is causing the device to see DMA errors. There should also be a complaint from check_for_stack() in debug_dma_map_xyz(). Fix this by adding and using coalesce params from the control_buf struct, which aligns with other commands. 2023-06-06pds_core: Fix FW recovery detectionBrett Creeley
Commit 523847df1b37 ("pds_core: add devcmd device interfaces") included initial support for FW recovery detection. Unfortunately, the ordering in pdsc_is_fw_good() was incorrect, which was causing FW recovery to be undetected by the driver. Fix this by making sure to update the cached fw_status by calling pdsc_is_fw_running() before setting the local FW gen. The CmprI and CmprE fields indicate the number of prefix octets that are shared with the IPv6 Destination Address. When CmprI or CmprE is not 0, Addresses[1..n] are compressed as follows: 1..n-1 : (16 - CmprI) bytes n : (16 - CmprE) bytes Segments Left indicates the number of route segments remaining. When the value is not zero, the SRH is forwarded to the next hop. Its address is extracted from Addresses[n - Segment Left + 1] and swapped with IPv6 Destination Address. When Segment Left is greater than or equal to 2, the size of SRH is not changed because Addresses[1..n-1] are decompressed and recompressed with CmprI. OTOH, when Segment Left changes from 1 to 0, the new SRH could have a different size because Addresses[1..n-1] are decompressed with CmprI and recompressed with CmprE. Let's say CmprI is 15 and CmprE is 0. When we receive SRH with Segment Left >= 2, Addresses[1..n-1] have 1 byte for each, and Addresses[n] has 16 bytes. When Segment Left is 1, Addresses[1..n-1] is decompressed to 16 bytes and not recompressed. Finally, the new SRH will need more room in the header, and the size is (16 - 1) * (n - 1) bytes. Here the max value of n is 255 as Segment Left is u8, so in the worst case, we have to allocate 3825 bytes in the skb headroom. However, now we only allocate a small fixed buffer that is IPV6_RPL_SRH_WORST_SWAP_SIZE (16 + 7 bytes). If the decompressed size overflows the room, skb_push() hits BUG() below [0]. Instead of allocating the fixed buffer for every packet, let's allocate enough headroom only when we receive SRH with Segment Left 1. 2023-06-07drm/lima: fix sched context destroyErico Nunes
The drm sched entity must be flushed before finishing, to account for jobs potentially still in flight at that time. Lima did not do this flush until now, so switch the destroy call to the drm_sched_entity_destroy() wrapper which will take care of that. This fixes a regression on lima which started since the rework in commit 2fdb8a8f07c2 ("drm/scheduler: rework entity flush, kill and fini") where some specific types of applications may hang indefinitely. syzkaller found a repro that causes Hung Task [0] with ipset. The repro first creates an ipset and then tries to delete a large number of IPs from the ipset concurrently: IPSET_ATTR_IPADDR_IPV4 : 172.20.20.187 IPSET_ATTR_CIDR : 2 The first deleting thread hogs a CPU with nfnl_lock(NFNL_SUBSYS_IPSET) held, and other threads wait for it to be released. Previously, the same issue existed in set->variant->uadt() that could run so long under ip_set_lock(set). Commit 5e29dc36bd5e ("netfilter: ipset: Rework long task execution when adding/deleting entries") tried to fix it, but the issue still exists in the caller with another mutex. While adding/deleting many IPs, we should release the CPU periodically to prevent someone from abusing ipset to hang the system. An nf_conntrack_helper from nf_conn_help may become NULL after DNAT. Observed when TCP port 1720 (Q931_PORT), associated with h323 conntrack helper, is DNAT'ed to another destination port (e.g. 1730), while nfqueue is being used for final acceptance (e.g. snort). This happenned after transition from kernel 4.14 to 5.10.161. 2023-06-06btrfs: properly enable async discard when switching from RO->RWChris Mason
The async discard uses the BTRFS_FS_DISCARD_RUNNING bit in the fs_info to force discards off when the filesystem has aborted or we're generally not able to run discards. This gets flipped on when we're mounted rw, and also when we go from ro->rw. Commit 63a7cb13071842 ("btrfs: auto enable discard=async when possible") enabled async discard by default, and this meant "mount -o ro /dev/xxx /yyy" had async discards turned on. 2023-06-06arm64: module: rework module VA range selectionMark Rutland
Currently, the modules region is 128M in size, which is a problem for some large modules. Shanker reports [1] that the NVIDIA GPU driver alone can consume 110M of module space in some configurations. We'd like to make the modules region a full 2G such that we can always make use of a 2G range. It's possible to build kernel images which are larger than 128M in some configurations, such as when many debug options are selected and many drivers are built in. In these configurations, we can't legitimately select a base for a 128M module region, though we currently select a value for which allocation will fail. It would be nicer to have a diagnostic message in this case. Similarly, in theory it's possible to build a kernel image which is larger than 2G and which cannot support modules. While this isn't likely to be the case for any realistic kernel deplyed in the field, it would be nice if we could print a diagnostic in this case. This patch reworks the module VA range selection to use a 2G range, and improves handling of cases where we cannot select legitimate module regions. We now attempt to select a 128M region and a 2G region: * The 128M region is selected such that modules can use direct branches (with JUMP26/CALL26 relocations) to branch to kernel code and other modules, and so that modules can reference data and text (using PREL32 relocations) anywhere in the kernel image and other modules. This region covers the entire kernel image (rather than just the text) to ensure that all PREL32 relocations are in range even when the kernel data section is absurdly large. Where we cannot allocate from this region, we'll fall back to the full 2G region. * The 2G region is selected such that modules can use direct branches with PLTs to branch to kernel code and other modules, and so that modules can use reference data and text (with PREL32 relocations) in the kernel image and other modules. This region covers the entire kernel image, and the 128M region (if one is selected). The two module regions are randomized independently while ensuring the constraints described above. 2023-06-06arm64: module: mandate MODULE_PLTSMark Rutland
Contemporary kernels and modules can be relatively large, especially when common debug options are enabled. Using GCC 12.1.0, a v6.3-rc7 defconfig kernel is ~38M, and with PROVE_LOCKING + KASAN_INLINE enabled this expands to ~117M. Shanker reports [1] that the NVIDIA GPU driver alone can consume 110M of module space in some configurations. Both KASLR and ARM64_ERRATUM_843419 select MODULE_PLTS, so anyone wanting a kernel to have KASLR or run on Cortex-A53 will have MODULE_PLTS selected. This is the case in defconfig and distribution kernels (e.g. Debian, Android, etc). Practically speaking, this means we're very likely to need MODULE_PLTS and while it's almost guaranteed that MODULE_PLTS will be selected, it is possible to disable support, and we have to maintain some awkward special cases for such unusual configurations. This patch removes the MODULE_PLTS config option, with the support code always enabled if MODULES is selected. This results in a slight simplification, and will allow for further improvement in subsequent patches. For any config which currently selects MODULE_PLTS, there will be no functional change as a result of this patch. 2023-06-06arm64: module: move module randomization to module.cMark Rutland
When CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_BASE=y, module_alloc_base is a variable which is configured by kaslr_module_init() in kaslr.c, and otherwise it is an expression defined in module.h. As kaslr_module_init() is no longer tightly coupled with the KASLR initialization code, we can centralize this in module.c. This patch moves kaslr_module_init() to module.c, making module_alloc_base a static variable, and removing redundant includes from kaslr.c. For the defintion of struct arm64_ftr_override we must include <asm/cpufeature.h>, which was previously included transitively via another header. There should be no functional change as a result of this patch. 2023-06-06arm64: kaslr: split kaslr/module initializationMark Rutland
Currently kaslr_init() handles a mixture of detecting/announcing whether KASLR is enabled, and randomizing the module region depending on whether KASLR is enabled. To make it easier to rework the module region initialization, split the KASLR initialization into two steps: * kaslr_init() determines whether KASLR should be enabled, and announces this choice, recording this to a new global boolean variable. This is called from setup_arch() just before the existing call to kaslr_requires_kpti() so that this will always provide the expected result. * kaslr_module_init() randomizes the module region when required. This is called as a subsys_initcall, where we previously called kaslr_init(). As a bonus, moving the KASLR reporting earlier makes it easier to spot and permits it to be logged via earlycon, making it easier to debug any issues that could be triggered by KASLR. Historically, KASAN could be selected with or without KASAN_VMALLOC, and we had to be very careful where to place modules when KASAN_VMALLOC was not selected. However, since commit: f6f37d9320a11e90 ("arm64: select KASAN_VMALLOC for SW/HW_TAGS modes") Selecting CONFIG_KASAN on arm64 will also select CONFIG_KASAN_VMALLOC, and so the logic for handling CONFIG_KASAN without CONFIG_KASAN_VMALLOC is redundant and can be removed. Note: the "kasan.vmalloc={on,off}" option which only exists for HW_TAGS changes whether the vmalloc region is given non-match-all tags, and does not affect the page table manipulation code. The VM_DEFER_KMEMLEAK flag was only necessary for !CONFIG_KASAN_VMALLOC as described in its introduction in commit: 60115fa54ad7b913 ("mm: defer kmemleak object creation of module_alloc()") ... and therefore it can also be removed. Remove the redundant logic for !CONFIG_KASAN_VMALLOC. At the same time, add the missing braces around the multi-line conditional block in arch/arm64/kernel/module.c. 2023-06-06spi: fsl-dspi: avoid SCK glitches with continuous transfersVladimir Oltean
The DSPI controller has configurable timing for (a) tCSC: the interval between the assertion of the chip select and the first clock edge (b) tASC: the interval between the last clock edge and the deassertion of the chip select What is a bit surprising, but is documented in the figure "Example of continuous transfer (CPHA=1, CONT=1)" in the datasheet, is that when the chip select stays asserted between multiple TX FIFO writes, the tCSC and tASC times still apply. With CONT=1, chip select remains asserted, but SCK takes a break and goes to the idle state for tASC + tCSC ns. In other words, the default values (of 0 and 0 ns) result in SCK glitches where the SCK transition to the idle state, as well as the SCK transition from the idle state, will have no delay in between, and it may appear that a SCK cycle has simply gone missing. The resulting timing violation might cause data corruption in many peripherals, as their chip select is asserted. The driver has device tree bindings for tCSC ("fsl,spi-cs-sck-delay") and tASC ("fsl,spi-sck-cs-delay"), but these are only specified to apply when the chip select toggles in the first place, and this timing characteristic depends on each peripheral. Many peripherals do not have explicit timing requirements, so many device trees do not have these properties present at all. Nonetheless, the lack of SCK glitches is a common sense requirement, and since the SCK stays in the idle state during transfers for tCSC+tASC ns, and that in itself should look like half a cycle, then let's ensure that tCSC and tASC are at least a quarter of a SCK period, such that their sum is at least half of one. When constructing the sim, gpio-sim constructs an array of named lines, sized based on the largest offset of any named line, and then initializes that array with the names of all lines, including unnamed hogs with higher offsets. There were two bugs when creating the non-inheritence element: 1) 'at_extension' needs to be declared outside the loop, otherwise the value resets every iteration and we can never really switch properly 2) 'added' never got set to true, so we always cut off the extension element again at the end of the function This shows another issue that we might add a list but no extension list, but we need to make the extension list a zero-length one in that case. Fix all these issues. While at it, add a comment explaining the trim.
