2023-12-29ALSA: scarlett2: Add #define for SCARLETT2_MIX_MAXGeoffrey D. Bennett
Add a #define for SCARLETT2_MIX_MAX (max of mixer inputs * outputs) as that will be used again soon. Signed-off-by: Geoffrey D. Bennett <g@b4.vu> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/83cec5ccd75f0db2bd061a76d31a7023d26300c1.1703444932.git.g@b4.vu Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2023-12-29ALSA: scarlett2: Add scarlett2_mixer_value_to_db()Geoffrey D. Bennett
Refactor scarlett2_usb_get_mix(), moving the scarlett2_mixer_values[] lookup into scarlett2_mixer_value_to_db(). Signed-off-by: Geoffrey D. Bennett <g@b4.vu> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/7adf869852aba2819fddb850b0ea8df5f7d73931.1703444932.git.g@b4.vu Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2023-12-29ALSA: scarlett2: Allow for interfaces without per-channel volumeGeoffrey D. Bennett
Currently-supported interfaces with a mixer have per-channel volume controls, but this changes in Gen 4. Add a check so that the Playback Volume and associated controls don't get created unless the SCARLETT2_CONFIG_LINE_OUT_VOLUME config item is present. Signed-off-by: Geoffrey D. Bennett <g@b4.vu> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/30f68cb311e27f2cc1351cb846218f7248a90263.1703444932.git.g@b4.vu Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2023-12-29ALSA: scarlett2: Remove line_out_hw_vol device info entryGeoffrey D. Bennett
By splitting config set gen2 into gen2a/b (for 6i6/18i8 vs 18i20), and gen3b into gen3b/c (for 4i4/8i6 vs 18i8/18i20), we can use scarlett2_has_config_item() instead of the per-device line_out_hw_vol. As Gen 4 has a master volume control but no SW/HW switches, check for both SCARLETT2_CONFIG_MASTER_VOLUME and SCARLETT2_CONFIG_SW_HW_SWITCH as needed, even though for Gen 2 and Gen 3 the former implies the latter. Signed-off-by: Geoffrey D. Bennett <g@b4.vu> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/307c4f8d6d2e034f3e386b51d72a39d77c8a9fce.1703444932.git.g@b4.vu Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2023-12-29ALSA: scarlett2: Split dim_mute_update from vol_updatedGeoffrey D. Bennett
Scarlett Gen 2 and Gen 3 devices combine volume and dim/mute notifications. The Scarlett 4i4 Gen 4 has volume change notification but no dim/mute control so split dim_mute_update out from vol_update. 2023-12-29ALSA: scarlett2: Remove struct scarlett2_usb_volume_statusGeoffrey D. Bennett
The struct scarlett2_usb_volume_status matched the config space layout of a few volume controls that could be read together and were in fixed locations between Gen 2 and Gen 3 devices. Gen 4 devices have removed, moved, and new related controls, so this needs to be cleaned up. By adding SCARLETT2_CONFIG_MASTER_VOLUME (the only config item that didn't already have its own entry, because it is read-only), we can remove: - struct scarlett2_usb_volume_state, - #define SCARLETT2_USB_VOLUME_STATUS_OFFSET, and - scarlett2_usb_get_volume_status() and replace with calls to scarlett2_usb_get_config(). 2023-12-29ALSA: scarlett2: Refactor common port_count lookupsGeoffrey D. Bennett

2023-12-29ALSA: scarlett2: Parameterise notificationsGeoffrey D. Bennett
The notification values were previously #define'd, and checked with a series of if() statements calling functions. Replace with an array of masks/callback function pointers, and a pointer to that array in the scarlett2_config_set definitions. Signed-off-by: Geoffrey D. 2023-12-29ALSA: scarlett2: Add config set structGeoffrey D. Bennett
Add struct scarlett2_config_set so that data which is common to all devices in a config set can be stored there rather than in the model-specific data. 2023-12-29ALSA: scarlett2: Add ioctl commands to erase flash segmentsGeoffrey D. Bennett
Add ioctls: - SCARLETT2_IOCTL_SELECT_FLASH_SEGMENT - SCARLETT2_IOCTL_ERASE_FLASH_SEGMENT - SCARLETT2_IOCTL_GET_ERASE_PROGRESS The settings or the firmware flash segment can be selected and then erased (asynchronous operation), and the erase progress can be monitored. If the erase progress is not monitored, then subsequent hwdep operations will block until the erase is complete. 2023-12-29tracing: Fix blocked reader of snapshot bufferSteven Rostedt (Google)
If an application blocks on the snapshot or snapshot_raw files, expecting to be woken up when a snapshot occurs, it will not happen. Or it may happen with an unexpected result. That result is that the application will be reading the main buffer instead of the snapshot buffer. That is because when the snapshot occurs, the main and snapshot buffers are swapped. But the reader has a descriptor still pointing to the buffer that it originally connected to. This is fine for the main buffer readers, as they may be blocked waiting for a watermark to be hit, and when a snapshot occurs, the data that the main readers want is now on the snapshot buffer. But for waiters of the snapshot buffer, they are waiting for an event to occur that will trigger the snapshot and they can then consume it quickly to save the snapshot before the next snapshot occurs. But to do this, they need to read the new snapshot buffer, not the old one that is now receiving new data. Also, it does not make sense to have a watermark "buffer_percent" on the snapshot buffer, as the snapshot buffer is static and does not receive new data except all at once. 2023-12-29ring-buffer: Fix wake ups when buffer_percent is set to 100Steven Rostedt (Google)
The tracefs file "buffer_percent" is to allow user space to set a water-mark on how much of the tracing ring buffer needs to be filled in order to wake up a blocked reader. 0 - is to wait until any data is in the buffer 1 - is to wait for 1% of the sub buffers to be filled 50 - would be half of the sub buffers are filled with data 100 - is not to wake the waiter until the ring buffer is completely full Unfortunately the test for being full was: dirty = ring_buffer_nr_dirty_pages(buffer, cpu); return (dirty * 100) > (full * nr_pages); Where "full" is the value for "buffer_percent". There is two issues with the above when full == 100. 1. dirty * 100 > 100 * nr_pages will never be true That is, the above is basically saying that if the user sets buffer_percent to 100, more pages need to be dirty than exist in the ring buffer! 2. The page that the writer is on is never considered dirty, as dirty pages are only those that are full. When the writer goes to a new sub-buffer, it clears the contents of that sub-buffer. That is, even if the check was ">=" it would still not be equal as the most pages that can be considered "dirty" is nr_pages - 1. To fix this, add one to dirty and use ">=" in the compare. 2023-12-29platform/x86/intel/pmc: Move GBE LTR ignore to suspend callbackDavid E. Box
Commit 804951203aa5 ("platform/x86:intel/pmc: Combine core_init() and core_configure()") caused a network performance regression due to the GBE LTR ignore that it added at probe. This was needed in order to allow the SoC to enter the deepest Package C state. To fix the regression and at least support PC10 during suspend, move the LTR ignore from probe to the suspend callback, and enable it again on resume. This solution will allow PC10 during suspend but restrict Package C entry at runtime to no deeper than PC8/9 while a network cable it attach to the PCH LAN. Commit 804951203aa5 ("platform/x86:intel/pmc: Combine core_init() and core_configure()") caused a network performance regression due to the GBE LTR ignore that it added during probe. However, this lock causes deadlock when PCI bus rescan is triggered by /sys/bus/pci/rescan. The rescan locks pci_rescan_remove_lock and probes PCI devices. When PCI devices call p2sb_bar() during probe, it locks pci_rescan_remove_lock again. Hence the deadlock. To avoid the deadlock, do not lock pci_rescan_remove_lock in p2sb_bar(). Instead, do the lock at fs_initcall. Introduce p2sb_cache_resources() for fs_initcall which gets and caches the P2SB resources. At p2sb_bar(), refer the cache and return to the caller. 2023-12-29ALSA: hda: cs35l41: Prevent firmware load if SPI speed too lowStefan Binding
Some laptops without _DSD have the SPI speed set very low in the BIOS. Since the SPI controller uses this speed as its max speed, the SPI transactions are very slow. Firmware download writes to many registers, and if the SPI speed is too slow, it can take a long time to download. For this reason, disable firmware loading if the maximum SPI speed is too low. Without Firmware, audio playback will work, but the volume will be low to ensure safe operation of the CS35L41. 2023-12-29kbuild: deb-pkg: hard-code Build-DependsMasahiro Yamada
The condition to require libelf-dev:native is stale because objtool is now enabled by CONFIG_OBJTOOL instead of CONFIG_UNWINDER_ORC. Not only objtool but also resolve_btfids requires libelf-dev:native; therefore, CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF should be checked as well. Similarly, CONFIG_SYSTEM_TRUSTED_KEYRING is not the only case that requires libssl-dev:native. Perhaps, the following code would provide better coverage, but it is hard to maintain (and may still be imperfect). if is_enabled CONFIG_OBJTOOL || is_enabled CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF; then build_depends="${build_depends}, libelf-dev:native" fi if is_enabled CONFIG_SYSTEM_TRUSTED_KEYRING || is_enabled CONFIG_SYSTEM_REVOCATION_LIST || is_enabled CONFIG_MODULE_SIG_FORMAT; then build_depends="${build_depends}, libssl-dev:native" fi Let's hard-code the build dependency. 2023-12-29gen_init_cpio: Apply mtime supplied by user to all file typesDmitry Safonov
Currently gen_init_cpio -d <timestamp> is applied to symlinks, directories and special files. These files are created by gen_init_cpio from their description. Without <timestamp> option current time(NULL) is used. And regular files that go in initramfs are created before cpio generation, so their mtime(s) are preserved. This is usually not an issue as reproducible builds should rebuild everything in the distribution, including binaries, configs and whatever other regular files may find their way into kernel's initramfs. On the other hand, gen_initramfs.sh usage claims: > -d <date> Use date for all file mtime values Ar Arista initramfs files are managed with version control system that preserves mtime. Those are configs, boot parameters, init scripts, version files, platform-specific files, probably some others, too. While it's certainly possible to work this around by copying the file into temp directory and adjusting mtime prior to gen_init_cpio call, I don't see why it needs workarounds. The intended user of -d <date> option is the one that needs to create a reproducible build, see commit a8b8017c34fe ("initramfs: Use KBUILD_BUILD_TIMESTAMP for generated entries"). If a user wants the build reproduction, they use -d <date>, which can be set on all types of files, without surprising exceptions and workarounds. Let's KISS here and just apply the time that user specified with -d option. 2023-12-29kbuild: resolve symlinks for O= properlyMasahiro Yamada
Currently, Kbuild follows the logical chain of directories for the O= option, just like 'cd' (or 'realpath --logical') does. Example: $ mkdir -p /tmp/a /tmp/x/y $ ln -s /tmp/x/y /tmp/a/b $ realpath /tmp/a/b/.. /tmp/x $ realpath --logical /tmp/a/b/.. /tmp/a $ make O=/tmp/a/b/.. defconfig make[1]: Entering directory '/tmp/a' [snip] make[1]: Leaving directory '/tmp/a' 'make O=/tmp/a/b/.. defconfig' creates the kernel configuration in /tmp/a instead of /tmp/x despite /tmp/a/b/.. resolves to /tmp/x. This is because Kbuild internally uses the 'cd ... && pwd' for the path resolution, but this behavior is not predictable for users. Additionally, it is not consistent with how the Kbuild handles the M= option or GNU Make works with 'make -C /tmp/a/b/..'. Using the physical directory structure for the O= option seems more reasonable. The comment says "expand a shell special character '~'", but it has already been expanded to the home directory in the command line. 2023-12-29check-uapi: Introduce check-uapi.shJohn Moon
While the kernel community has been good at maintaining backwards compatibility with kernel UAPIs, it would be helpful to have a tool to check if a commit introduces changes that break backwards compatibility. To that end, introduce check-uapi.sh: a simple shell script that checks for changes to UAPI headers using libabigail. libabigail is "a framework which aims at helping developers and software distributors to spot some ABI-related issues like interface incompatibility in ELF shared libraries by performing a static analysis of the ELF binaries at hand." The script uses one of libabigail's tools, "abidiff", to compile the changed header before and after the commit to detect any changes. abidiff "compares the ABI of two shared libraries in ELF format. It emits a meaningful report describing the differences between the two ABIs." The script also includes the ability to check the compatibility of all UAPI headers across commits. This allows developers to inspect the stability of the UAPIs over time. Signed-off-by: John Moon <quic_johmoo@quicinc.com> Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <masahiroy@kernel.org>
