2014-03-20rcu: Provide grace-period piggybacking APIPaul E. McKenney
The following pattern is currently not well supported by RCU: 1. Make data element inaccessible to RCU readers. 2. Do work that probably lasts for more than one grace period. 3. Do something to make sure RCU readers in flight before #1 above have completed. Here are some things that could currently be done: a. Do a synchronize_rcu() unconditionally at either #1 or #3 above. This works, but imposes needless work and latency. b. Post an RCU callback at #1 above that does a wakeup, then wait for the wakeup at #3. This works well, but likely results in an extra unneeded grace period. Open-coding this is also a bit more semi-tricky code than would be good. This commit therefore adds get_state_synchronize_rcu() and cond_synchronize_rcu() APIs. Call get_state_synchronize_rcu() at #1 above and pass its return value to cond_synchronize_rcu() at #3 above. This results in a call to synchronize_rcu() if no grace period has elapsed between #1 and #3, but requires only a load, comparison, and memory barrier if a full grace period did elapse. 2014-03-20x86, cpu: Add forcepae parameter for booting PAE kernels on PAE-disabled ↵Chris Bainbridge
Pentium M Many Pentium M systems disable PAE but may have a functionally usable PAE implementation. This adds the "forcepae" parameter which bypasses the boot check for PAE, and sets the CPU as being PAE capable. Using this parameter will taint the kernel with TAINT_CPU_OUT_OF_SPEC. 2014-03-20tcp: syncookies: do not use getnstimeofday()Eric Dumazet
While it is true that getnstimeofday() uses about 40 cycles if TSC is available, it can use 1600 cycles if hpet is the clocksource. Switch to get_jiffies_64(), as this is more than enough, and go back to 60 seconds periods. This means that for the first five minutes after boot, flows will always be reported as never used, since 0 is greater than any time already seen. In event format strings, the array size is reported in two locations. One in array subscript and then via the "size:" attribute. The values reported there have a mismatch. 2014-03-20MIPS: Make local_irq_disable macro safe for non-Mipsr2Jim Quinlan
For non-mipsr2 processors, the local_irq_disable contains an mfc0-mtc0 pair with instructions inbetween. With preemption enabled, this sequence may get preempted and effect a stale value of CP0_STATUS when executing the mtc0 instruction. This commit avoids this scenario by incrementing the preempt count before the mfc0 and decrementing it after the mtc9. Modify irq_domain_ops for CIU and CIU2 to "gracefully handle" GPIO lines (neither return error code nor call octeon_irq_set_ciu_mapping for it). This should avoid the warning. 2014-03-19drm/i915: Disable stolen memory when DMAR is activeChris Wilson
We have reports of heavy screen corruption if we try to use the stolen memory reserved by the BIOS whilst the DMA-Remapper is active. Instead of bailing out as soon as we find a filter that applies, go on checking all of them so that we can zoom in/out filters. We also need to make sure we only update al->filtered after thread__find_addr_map(), because there is where al->filtered gets initialized to zero. This will increase the cost of processing when all we don't need this toggling, but will provide flexibility for the TUI and GTK+ interfaces, that will incur in creating the hist_entries just once. By turning the addr_location->filtered member from a boolean to a u8 bitmap, reusing (and extending) the hist_filter enum for that. This patch doesn't change the logic at all, as it keeps the meaning of al->filtered !0 to mean that the entry _was_ filtered, so no change in how this value is interpreted needs to be done at this point. This will be soon used in upcoming patches.
