2014-07-03Btrfs: fix crash when starting transactionFilipe Manana
Often when starting a transaction we commit the currently running transaction, which can end up writing block group caches when the current process has its journal_info set to NULL (and not to a transaction). This makes our assertion at btrfs_check_data_free_space() (current_journal != NULL) fail, resulting in a crash/hang. Therefore fix it by setting journal_info. 2014-07-03Btrfs: fix race of using total_bytes_pinnedLiu Bo
This percpu counter @total_bytes_pinned is introduced to skip unnecessary operations of 'commit transaction', it accounts for those space we may free but are stuck in delayed refs. And we zero out @space_info->total_bytes_pinned every transaction period so we have a better idea of how much space we'll actually free up by committing this transaction. However, we do the 'zero out' part a little earlier, before we actually unpin space, so we end up returning ENOSPC when we actually have free space that's just unpinned from committing transaction. xfstests/generic/074 complained then. This fixes it by actually accounting the percpu pinned number when 'unpin', and since it's protected by space_info->lock, the race is gone now. 2014-07-03btrfs: fix nossd and ssd_spread mount option regressionEric Sandeen
The commit 0780253 btrfs: Cleanup the btrfs_parse_options for remount. broke ssd options quite badly; it stopped making ssd_spread imply ssd, and it made "nossd" unsettable. 2014-07-03Btrfs: fix race between balance recovery and root deletionWang Shilong
Balance recovery is called when RW mounting or remounting from RO to RW, it is called to finish roots merging. When doing balance recovery, relocation root's corresponding fs root(whose root refs is 0) might be destroyed by cleaner thread, this will make btrfs fail to mount. This change is based on the corresponding recent change for ext4: ext4: atomically set inode->i_flags in ext4_set_inode_flags() That has the following commit message that applies to btrfs as well: "Use cmpxchg() to atomically set i_flags instead of clearing out the S_IMMUTABLE, S_APPEND, etc. flags and then setting them from the EXT4_IMMUTABLE_FL, EXT4_APPEND_FL flags, since this opens up a race where an immutable file has the immutable flag cleared for a brief window of time." Replacing EXT4_IMMUTABLE_FL and EXT4_APPEND_FL with BTRFS_INODE_IMMUTABLE and BTRFS_INODE_APPEND, respectively. These are however relative to the build directory, not the directory where make was started. Print the "Entering directory ..." message once, so that IDEs/editors can find the source files. 2014-07-03md: flush writes before starting a recovery.NeilBrown
When we write to a degraded array which has a bitmap, we make sure the relevant bit in the bitmap remains set when the write completes (so a 're-add' can quickly rebuilt a temporarily-missing device). If, immediately after such a write starts, we incorporate a spare, commence recovery, and skip over the region where the write is happening (because the 'needs recovery' flag isn't set yet), then that write will not get to the new device. Once the recovery finishes the new device will be trusted, but will have incorrect data, leading to possible corruption. We cannot set the 'needs recovery' flag when we start the write as we do not know easily if the write will be "degraded" or not. That depends on details of the particular raid level and particular write request. This patch fixes a corruption issue of long standing and so it suitable for any -stable kernel. It applied correctly to 3.0 at least and will minor editing to earlier kernels. 2014-07-02kernfs: kernfs_notify() must be useable from non-sleepable contextsTejun Heo
d911d9874801 ("kernfs: make kernfs_notify() trigger inotify events too") added fsnotify triggering to kernfs_notify() which requires a sleepable context. There are already existing users of kernfs_notify() which invoke it from an atomic context and in general it's silly to require a sleepable context for triggering a notification. The following is an invalid context bug triggerd by md invoking sysfs_notify() from IO completion path. This ends up adding an extra pointer to kernfs_elem_attr enlarging kernfs_node by a pointer, which is not ideal but not a very big deal either. Due to a long-standing issue with Thumb symbol lookup [1] the jprobes tests fail when built into a kernel compiled as Thumb mode. (They work fine for ARM mode kernels or for Thumb when built as a loadable module.) Rather than have this problem terminate testing prematurely lets instead emit an error message and carry on with the main kprobes tests, delaying the final failure report until the end. We need to delete un-finished td from current request's td list at ep_dequeue API, otherwise, this non-user td will be remained at td list before this request is freed. So if we do ep_queue-> ep_dequeue->ep_queue sequence, when the complete interrupt for the second ep_queue comes, we search td list for this request, the first td (added by the first ep_queue) will be handled, and its status is still active, so we will consider the this transfer still not be completed, but in fact, it has completed. It causes the peripheral side considers it never receives current data for this transfer. 2014-07-01core: fix typo in percpu read_mostly sectionZhengyu He
This fixes a typo that named the read_mostly section of percpu as readmostly. It works fine with SMP because the linker script specifies .data..percpu..readmostly. However, UP kernel builds don't have percpu sections defined and the non-percpu version of the section is called data..read_mostly, so .data..readmostly will float around and may break things unexpectedly. Looking at the original change that introduced data..percpu..readmostly (commit c957ef2c59e952803766ddc22e89981ab534606f), it looks like this was the original intention. 2014-07-01cpuset: break kernfs active protection in cpuset_write_resmask()Tejun Heo
Writing to either "cpuset.cpus" or "cpuset.mems" file flushes cpuset_hotplug_work so that cpu or memory hotunplug doesn't end up migrating tasks off a cpuset after new resources are added to it. As cpuset_hotplug_work calls into cgroup core via cgroup_transfer_tasks(), this flushing adds the dependency to cgroup core locking from cpuset_write_resmak(). This used to be okay because cgroup interface files were protected by a different mutex; however, 8353da1f91f1 ("cgroup: remove cgroup_tree_mutex") simplified the cgroup core locking and this dependency became a deadlock hazard - cgroup file removal performed under cgroup core lock tries to drain on-going file operation which is trying to flush cpuset_hotplug_work blocked on the same cgroup core lock. The locking simplification was done because kernfs added an a lot easier way to deal with circular dependencies involving kernfs active protection. Let's use the same strategy in cpuset and break active protection in cpuset_write_resmask(). While it isn't the prettiest, this is a very rare, likely unique, situation which also goes away on the unified hierarchy. Some monitors seem to have problems with deep color enabled, even though they claim to support it. I'm not sure if the monitor need a quirk or if the driver is doing something the monitor doesn't like. bapm enabled the GPU and CPU to share TDP headroom. It was disabled by default since some laptops hung when it was enabled in conjunction with dpm. The tmon logging system blindly opens its log file on a static path, making it very easy for someone to redirect that log information to inappropriate places or overwrite other users data.
