2014-03-18cnic,bnx2i,bnx2fc: Fix inconsistent use of page sizeMichael Chan
The bnx2/bnx2x rings are made up of linked pages. However there is an upper limit on the page size as some the page size settings are 16-bit in the hardware/firmware interface. In the current code, some parts use BNX2_PAGE_SIZE which has a 16K upper limit and some parts use PAGE_SIZE. On archs with >= 64K PAGE_SIZE, it generates some compile warnings. Define a new CNIC_PAGE_SZIE which has an upper limit of 16K and use it consistently in all relevant parts. 2014-03-18cnic: Use proper ulp_ops for per device operations.Michael Chan
For per device operations, cnic needs to dereference the RCU protected cp->ulp_ops instead of the global cnic_ulp_tbl. In 2 locations, cnic_send_nlmsg() and cnic_copy_ulp_stats(), it was referencing the global table. If the device has been unregistered and these functions are still being called (very unlikely scenarios), it could lead to NULL pointer dereference. ieee802154 sockets do not properly unshare received skbs, which leads to panics (at least) when they are used in conjunction with 6lowpan, so run skb_share_check on received skbs. 6lowpan also contains a use-after-free, which is trivially fixed by replacing the inlined skb_share_check with the explicit call. 2014-03-18x86, vdso: Zero-pad the VVAR pageAndy Lutomirski
By coincidence, the VVAR page is at the end of an ELF segment. As a result, if it ends up being a partial page, the kernel loader will leave garbage behind at the end of the vvar page. Zero-pad it to a full page to fix this issue. This has probably been broken since the VVAR page was introduced. On QEMU, if you dump the run-time contents of the VVAR page, you can find entertaining strings from seabios left behind. It's remotely possible that this is a security bug -- conceivably there's some BIOS out there that leaves something sensitive in the few K of memory that is exposed to userspace. This patch add the VDSO time support for the IA32 Emulation Layer. Due the nature of the kernel headers and the LP64 compiler where the size of a long and a pointer differs against a 32 bit compiler, there is some type hacking necessary for optimal performance. The vsyscall_gtod_data struture must be a rearranged to serve 32- and 64-bit code access at the same time: - The seqcount_t was replaced by an unsigned, this makes the vsyscall_gtod_data intedepend of kernel configuration and internal functions. - All kernel internal structures are replaced by fix size elements which works for 32- and 64-bit access - The inner struct clock was removed to pack the whole struct. The "unsigned seq" would be handled by functions derivated from seqcount_t. Uninlined nested functions can cause crashes when using ftrace, as they don't follow the normal calling convention and confuse the ftrace function graph tracer as it examines the stack. 2014-03-18net: cdc_ncm: fix control message orderingBjørn Mork
This is a context modified revert of commit 6a9612e2cb22 ("net: cdc_ncm: remove ncm_parm field") which introduced a NCM specification violation, causing setup errors for some devices. These errors resulted in the device and host disagreeing about shared settings, with complete failure to communicate as the end result. The NCM specification require that many of the NCM specific control reuests are sent only while the NCM Data Interface is in alternate setting 0. Reverting the commit ensures that we follow this requirement. 2014-03-18bcache: Rework btree cache reserve handlingKent Overstreet
This changes the bucket allocation reserves to use _real_ reserves - separate freelists - instead of watermarks, which if nothing else makes the current code saner to reason about and is going to be important in the future when we add support for multiple btrees. It also adds btree_check_reserve(), which checks (and locks) the reserves for both bucket allocation and memory allocation for btree nodes; the old code just kinda sorta assumed that since (e.g. for btree node splits) it had the root locked and that meant no other threads could try to make use of the same reserve; this technically should have been ok for memory allocation (we should always have a reserve for memory allocation (the btree node cache is used as a reserve and we preallocate it)), but multiple btrees will mean that locking the root won't be sufficient anymore, and for the bucket allocation reserve it was technically possible for the old code to deadlock. Add a new lock, b->write_lock, which is required to actually modify - or write - a btree node; this lock is only held for short durations. This means we can write out a btree node without taking b->lock, which _is_ held for long durations - solving a deadlock when btree_flush_write() (from the journalling code) is called with a btree node locked. Right now just occurs in bch_btree_set_root(), but with an upcoming journalling rework is going to happen a lot more. This also turns b->lock is now more of a read/intent lock instead of a read/write lock - but not completely, since it still blocks readers. This isn't a bulletproof fix; btree_node_free() -> bch_bucket_free() puts the bucket on the unused freelist, where it can be reused right away without any ordering requirements. It would be better to wait on at least a journal write to go down before reusing the bucket. bch_btree_set_root() does this, and inserting into non leaf nodes is completely synchronous so we should be ok, but future patches are just going to get rid of the unused freelist - it was needed in the past for various reasons but shouldn't be anymore. 2014-03-18bcache: Fix moving_gc deadlocking with a foreground writeNicholas Swenson
Deadlock happened because a foreground write slept, waiting for a bucket to be allocated. Normally the gc would mark buckets available for invalidation. But the moving_gc was stuck waiting for outstanding writes to complete. These writes used the bcache_wq, the same queue foreground writes used. This fix gives moving_gc its own work queue, so it was still finish moving even if foreground writes are stuck waiting for allocation. It also makes work queue a parameter to the data_insert path, so moving_gc can use its workqueue for writes.
