Enabling PN checking in the hardware; hardware checks the PN of the received packets and reports the errors to the host for further handling; default action is to drop such packets. TSC (TKIP sequence counter) validation is also offloaded. Hardware validates PN/TSC only for unicast packets; for group addressed packets, PN validation is done in mac80211. PN errors are reported to the driver via WBM RX release ring and can be dumped by using the following command. 2020-03-17ath11k: handle RX fragmentsManikanta Pubbisetty
IPQ8074 HW has support to verify the PN of the received frames. For all frames except for fragmented ones, HW checks the PN and delivers them to the driver. For fragmented frames, driver is required to do a little more; it has to reassemble the fragments and then reinject them to the HW for verifying the PN. Currently, to keep the logic simple, PN verifcation is disabled in HW and is handled in mac80211 for all the frames (fragmented and unfragmented). On the contrary, offloading PN Validation to the HW brings important benefits. It reduces CPU cycles spent on the host CPU for verifying the same; helps in enabling features which improve performance like mac80211 fast RX path, enabling multiple REO rings for parallel RX processing, 802.11 decapsulation offloading. All these features are dependent on PN offload which in turn is dependent on handling of the received fragments in the driver. When TKIP security is used, additional handling is required while processing the fragments; since MIC is computed on an MSDU in TKIP, only the last fragment has the MIC info. In this case, driver has to compute the MIC after reassembly and compare it against the MIC present in the frame. For this, MICHAEL_MIC kernel crypto library APIs are used and the dependencies are appropriately set. 2020-03-16sfc: fix XDP-redirect in this driverJesper Dangaard Brouer
XDP-redirect is broken in this driver sfc. XDP_REDIRECT requires tailroom for skb_shared_info when creating an SKB based on the redirected xdp_frame (both in cpumap and veth). The fix requires some initial explaining. The driver uses RX page-split when possible. It reserves the top 64 bytes in the RX-page for storing dma_addr (struct efx_rx_page_state). It also have the XDP recommended headroom of XDP_PACKET_HEADROOM (256 bytes). As it doesn't reserve any tailroom, it can still fit two standard MTU (1500) frames into one page. The sizeof struct skb_shared_info in 320 bytes. Thus drivers like ixgbe and i40e, reduce their XDP headroom to 192 bytes, which allows them to fit two frames with max 1536 bytes into a 4K page (192+1536+320=2048). The fix is to reduce this drivers headroom to 128 bytes and add the 320 bytes tailroom. This account for reserved top 64 bytes in the page, and still fit two frame in a page for normal MTUs. We must never go below 128 bytes of headroom for XDP, as one cacheline is for xdp_frame area and next cacheline is reserved for metadata area. 2020-03-17initramfs: restore default compression behaviorEugeniy Paltsev
Even though INITRAMFS_SOURCE kconfig option isn't set in most of defconfigs it is used (set) extensively by various build systems. Commit f26661e12765 ("initramfs: make initramfs compression choice non-optional") has changed default compression mode. Previously we compress initramfs using available compression algorithm. Now we don't use any compression at all by default. It significantly increases the image size in case of build system chooses embedded initramfs. Initially I faced with this issue while using buildroot. As of today it's not possible to set preferred compression mode in target defconfig as this option depends on INITRAMFS_SOURCE being set. Modification of all build systems either doesn't look like good option. Let's instead rewrite initramfs compression mode choices list the way that "INITRAMFS_COMPRESSION_NONE" will be the last option in the list. In that case it will be chosen only if all other options (which implements any compression) are not available. Rearrange the config files for remoteproc and IPA to fix their interdependencies. First, have CONFIG_QCOM_Q6V5_MSS select QCOM_Q6V5_IPA_NOTIFY so the notification code is built regardless of whether IPA needs it. Next, represent QCOM_IPA as being dependent on QCOM_Q6V5_MSS rather than setting its value to match QCOM_Q6V5_COMMON (which is selected by QCOM_Q6V5_MSS). Drop all dependencies from QCOM_Q6V5_IPA_NOTIFY. The notification code will be built whenever QCOM_Q6V5_MSS is set, and it has no other dependencies. 2020-03-17modpost: move the namespace field in Module.symvers lastJessica Yu
In order to preserve backwards compatability with kmod tools, we have to move the namespace field in Module.symvers last, as the depmod -e -E option looks at the first three fields in Module.symvers to check symbol versions (and it's expected they stay in the original order of crc, symbol, module). In addition, update an ancient comment above read_dump() in modpost that suggested that the export type field in Module.symvers was optional. I suspect that there were historical reasons behind that comment that are no longer accurate. We have been unconditionally printing the export type since 2.6.18 (commit bd5cbcedf44), which is over a decade ago now. Fix up read_dump() to treat each field as non-optional. I suspect the original read_dump() code treated the export field as optional in order to support pre <= 2.6.18 Module.symvers (which did not have the export type field). Note that although symbol namespaces are optional, the field will not be omitted from Module.symvers if a symbol does not have a namespace. In this case, the field will simply be empty and the next delimiter or end of line will follow. The LS1046ARDB uses two such PHYs in RGMII_ID mode but in the device tree the mode was described as "rgmii". Changing the phy-connection-type to "rgmii-id" to address the issue. The GICv3 ITS driver assumes that once it has latched on a page size for a given BASER register, it can use the same page size as the maximum page size for all subsequent BASER registers. Although it worked so far, nothing in the architecture guarantees this, and Nianyao Tang hit this problem on some undisclosed implementation. Let's bite the bullet and probe the the supported page size on all BASER registers before starting to populate the tables. 2020-03-16irqchip/bcm2835: Quiesce IRQs left enabled by bootloaderLukas Wunner
Per the spec, the BCM2835's IRQs are all disabled when coming out of power-on reset. Its IRQ driver assumes that's still the case when the kernel boots and does not perform any initialization of the registers. However the Raspberry Pi Foundation's bootloader leaves the USB interrupt enabled when handing over control to the kernel. Quiesce IRQs and the FIQ if they were left enabled and log a message to let users know that they should update the bootloader once a fixed version is released. If the USB interrupt is not quiesced and the USB driver later on claims the FIQ (as it does on the Raspberry Pi Foundation's downstream kernel), interrupt latency for all other peripherals increases and occasional lockups occur. That's because both the FIQ and the normal USB interrupt fire simultaneously: On a multicore Raspberry Pi, if normal interrupts are routed to CPU 0 and the FIQ to CPU 1 (hardcoded in the Foundation's kernel), then a USB interrupt causes CPU 0 to spin in bcm2836_chained_handle_irq() until the FIQ on CPU 1 has cleared it. Other peripherals' interrupts are starved as long. I've seen CPU 0 blocked for up to 2.9 msec. eMMC throughput on a Compute Module 3 irregularly dips to 23.0 MB/s without this commit but remains relatively constant at 23.5 MB/s with this commit. The lockups occur when CPU 0 receives a USB interrupt while holding a lock which CPU 1 is trying to acquire while the FIQ is temporarily disabled on CPU 1. At best users get RCU CPU stall warnings, but most of the time the system just freezes. Currently, PLIC threshold is only initialized once in the beginning. However, threshold can be set to disabled if a CPU is marked offline with CPU hotplug feature. This will not allow to change the irq affinity to a CPU that just came online. Add PLIC specific CPU hotplug callbacks and enable the threshold when a CPU comes online. Take this opportunity to move the external interrupt enable code from trap init to PLIC driver as well. On cpu offline path, the driver performs the exact opposite operations i.e. disable the interrupt and the threshold. Recently all usages of setup_irq() was replaced by request_irq(). request_irq() does a few sanity checks that were not done in setup_irq(), if they fail irq registration will fail. One of the check is to ensure that non-NULL dev_id is passed in the case of shared irq. This caused malta on qemu to hang. Fix it by passing handler as dev_id to all request_irq()'s that are shared. For sni, instead of passing non-NULL dev_id, remove shared irq flags. This is done in order to remove the confusion that arises at some places in the code where local variables or arguments shadow the global variable. It is already visible that some places are a bit awkward and iterate over the global variable, for the sole reason that they used to rely on it being named "fdc" in order to get the correct address when using FD_DOR. These ones are easy to spot by searching for "for (current_fdc...". Some more cleanup is definitely possible. For example "fdc_state[current_fdc].somefield" is used all over the code and would probably be better with "fdc_state->somefield" with fdc_state being set when current_fdc is assigned. This would require to pass the pointer to the current state instead of the current_fdc to the I/O functions. 2020-03-16floppy: separate the FDC's base address from its registersWilly Tarreau
FDC registers FD_STATUS, FD_DATA, FD_DOR, FD_DIR and FD_DCR used to be defined relative to FD_IOPORT, which is the FDC's base address, itself a macro depending on the "fdc" local or global variable. This patch changes this so that the register macros above now only reference the address offset, and that the FDC's address is explicitly passed in each call to fd_inb() and fd_outb(), thus removing the macro. With this change there is no more implicit usage of the local/global "fdc" variable. One place in the ARM code used to check if the port was equal to FD_DOR, this was changed to testing the register by applying a mask to the port, as was already done in the sparc code. There are still occurrences of fd_inb() and fd_outb() in the PARISC code and these ones remain unaffected since they already used to work with a base address and a register offset. The sparc, m68k and parisc code could now be slightly cleaned up to benefit from the macro definitions above instead of the equivalent hard-coded values.
