2011-12-27of/pdt: fix section mismatch warningSam Ravnborg
Fix the following section mismatch warning - seen when building sparc32: WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text+0x1ff9c0): Section mismatch in reference from the function kernel_tree_alloc() to the function .init.text:prom_early_alloc() The function kernel_tree_alloc() references the function __init prom_early_alloc(). This is often because kernel_tree_alloc lacks a __init annotation or the annotation of prom_early_alloc is wrong. prom_early_alloc() is annotated __init, and users of kernel_tree_alloc() is also annotated __init. So simply match the annoation of these to fix the warning. Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Cc: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca> Acked-by: David S. 2011-12-27dt/i2c: Enumerate some of the known trivial i2c devicesOlof Johansson
Based on recent discussions, we apparently want to do bindings even for trivial i2c devices, even though they have for years just been added. So start a table of the currently known ones for others to be added to over time. (I am intentionally letting lines go over 80 characters to make it easier to sort the file). 2011-12-27sparc32: support atomic64_tSam Ravnborg
There is no-one that really require atomic64_t support on sparc32. But several drivers fails to build without proper atomic64 support. And for an allyesconfig build for sparc32 this is annoying. Include the generic atomic64_t support for sparc32. This has a text footprint cost: $size vmlinux (before atomic64_t support) text data bss dec hex filename 3578860 134260 108781 3821901 3a514d vmlinux $size vmlinux (after atomic64_t support) text data bss dec hex filename 3579892 130684 108781 3819357 3a475d vmlinux text increase (3579892 - 3578860) = 1032 bytes data decreases - but I fail to explain why! I have rebuild twice to check my numbers. Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2011-12-27apbuart: fix section mismatch warningSam Ravnborg
Fix following warnings: WARNING: drivers/tty/serial/built-in.o(.text+0x7370): Section mismatch in reference from the function grlib_apbuart_configure() to the variable .init.data:apbuart_match The function grlib_apbuart_configure() references the variable __initdata apbuart_match. This is often because grlib_apbuart_configure lacks a __initdata annotation or the annotation of apbuart_match is wrong. + 3 more warnings like this. There is no guarantee that grlib_apbuart_of_driver.of_match_table is only used at __init time - so drop the __initdata annotation. grlib_apbuart_configure() is only used during __init so add __init to this method too. 2011-12-27watchdog: iTCO_wdt.c - problems with newer hardware due to SMI clearing (part 2)Wim Van Sebroeck
Redhat Bugzilla: Bug 727875 - TCO_EN bit is disabled by TCO driver The previous patch breaks reset watchdog behaviour on the older hardware. It is therefor better to make sure that the behaviour for older hardware (<=ICH5 or 6300ESB) is preserved and that the behaviour for newer hardware is changed. We therefor use the iTCO_version to see if we need the clearing of the SMI_TCO_EN bit in the SMI_EN register. So the new behaviour becomes: turn_SMI_watchdog_clear_off=0 -> Do not turn off SMI clearing watchdog. turn_SMI_watchdog_clear_off=1 -> Turn off SMI clearing watchdog when iTCO_version=1 (ICHO till ICH5 + 6300ESB only) turn_SMI_watchdog_clear_off=2 -> Turn off SMI clearing watchdog. 2011-12-27net: meth: Add set_rx_mode hook to fix ICMPv6 neighbor discoveryJoshua Kinard
SGI IP32 (O2)'s ethernet driver (meth) lacks a set_rx_mode function, which prevents IPv6 from working completely because any ICMPv6 neighbor solicitation requests aren't picked up by the driver. So the machine can ping out and connect to other systems, but other systems will have a very hard time connecting to the O2. Signed-off-by: Joshua Kinard <kumba@gentoo.org> Signed-off-by: David S. 2011-12-27cgroup: Remove task_lock() from cgroup_post_fork()Frederic Weisbecker
cgroup_post_fork() is protected between threadgroup_change_begin() and threadgroup_change_end() against concurrent changes of the child's css_set in cgroup_task_migrate(). Also the child can't exit and call cgroup_exit() at this stage, this means it's css_set can't be changed with init_css_set concurrently. For these reasons, we don't need to hold task_lock() on the child because it's css_set can only remain stable in this place. Let's remove the lock there. v2: Update comment to explain that we are safe against cgroup_exit() Signed-off-by: Frederic Weisbecker <fweisbec@gmail.com> Acked-by: Li Zefan <lizf@cn.fujitsu.com> Signed-off-by: Tejun Heo <tj@kernel.org> Cc: Containers <containers@lists.linux-foundation.org> Cc: Cgroups <cgroups@vger.kernel.org> Cc: KAMEZAWA Hiroyuki <kamezawa.hiroyu@jp.fujitsu.com> Cc: Oleg Nesterov <oleg@redhat.com> Cc: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Paul Menage <paul@paulmenage.org> Cc: Mandeep Singh Baines <msb@chromium.org>

2011-12-27tipc: Allow use of buf_seqno() helper routine by unicast linksAllan Stephens
Migrates the buf_seqno() helper routine from broadcast link level to unicast link level so that it can be used both types of TIPC links. This is a cosmetic change only, and does not affect the operation of TIPC. Signed-off-by: Allan Stephens <allan.stephens@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-12-27tipc: Ignore broadcast acknowledgements that are out-of-rangeAllan Stephens
Adds checks to TIPC's broadcast link so that it ignores any acknowledgement message containing a sequence number that does not correspond to an unacknowledged message currently in the broadcast link's transmit queue. This change prevents the broadcast link from becoming stalled if a newly booted node receives stale broadcast link acknowledgement information from another node that has not yet fully synchronized its end of the broadcast link to reflect the current state of the new node's end. Signed-off-by: Allan Stephens <allan.stephens@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-12-27tipc: Flush unsent broadcast messages when contact with last node is lostAllan Stephens
Adds code to release any unsent broadcast messages in the broadcast link transmit queue if TIPC loses contact with its only neighboring node. Previously, a broadcast link that was in the congested state would hold on to the unsent messages, even though the messages were now undeliverable. Signed-off-by: Allan Stephens <allan.stephens@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-12-27tipc: Minor optimization of broadcast link transmit queue statisticAllan Stephens
The two broadcast link statistics fields that are used to derive the average length of that link's transmit queue are now updated only after a successful attempt to send a broadcast message, since there is no need to update these values when an unsuccessful send attempt leaves the queue unchanged. Signed-off-by: Allan Stephens <allan.stephens@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-12-27tipc: Handle broadcast attempt when no neighboring nodes existAllan Stephens
Adds a check to detect when an attempt is made to send a message via the broadcast link and no neighboring nodes are currently available to receive it. Rather than wasting effort passing the message to the broadcast link and broadcast bearer, who will only throw it away, TIPC now frees the message immediately and reports success (i.e. the message has been delivered to all available destinations). Signed-off-by: Allan Stephens <allan.stephens@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-12-27tipc: Ensure broadcast link spinlock is held when updating node mapAllan Stephens
Fixes oversight that allowed broadcast link node map to be updated without first taking the broadcast link spinlock that protects the map. As part of this fix the node map has been incorporated into the broadcast link structure to make the need for such protection more evident. Signed-off-by: Allan Stephens <allan.stephens@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-12-27tipc: Eliminate dynamic allocation of broadcast link data structuresAllan Stephens
Creates global variables to hold the broadcast link's pseudo-bearer and pseudo-link structures, rather than allocating them dynamically. There is only a single instance of each structure, and changing over to static allocation allows elimination of code to handle the cases where dynamic allocation was unsuccessful. The memset in the teardown code may look like they aren't used, but the same teardown code is run when there is a non-fatal error at init-time, so that stale data isn't present when the user fixes the cause of the soft error. Signed-off-by: Allan Stephens <allan.stephens@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-12-27tipc: Eliminate useless check when network address is assignedAllan Stephens
Gets rid of an unnecessary check in the routine that updates the port id of a node's name publications when the node is assigned a network address, since the routine is only invoked if the new address is different from the existing one. Signed-off-by: Allan Stephens <allan.stephens@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-12-27tipc: Minor correction to TIPC module unloadingAllan Stephens
Modifies TIPC's module unloading logic to switch itself into "single node" mode before starting to terminate networking support. This helps to ensure that no operations that require TIPC to be in "networking" mode can initiate once unloading starts. Signed-off-by: Allan Stephens <allan.stephens@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-12-27tipc: Eliminate useless memset operations in Ethernet media supportAllan Stephens
Gets rid of two pointless operations that zero out the array used to record information about TIPC's Ethernet bearers. There is no need to initialize the array on start up since it is a global variable that is already zero'd out, and there is no need to zero it out on exit because the array is never referenced again. Signed-off-by: Allan Stephens <allan.stephens@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-12-27tipc: Do timely cleanup of disabled Ethernet bearer resourcesAllan Stephens
Modifies Ethernet bearer disable logic to break the association between the bearer and its device driver at the time the bearer is disabled, rather than when the TIPC module is unloaded. This allows the array entry used by the disabled bearer to be re-used if the same bearer (or a different one) is subsequently enabled.
