2013-06-07macvtap: eliminate linear searchJason Wang
Linear search were used in both get_slot() and macvtap_get_queue(), this is because: - macvtap didn't reshuffle the array of taps when create or destroy a queue, so when adding a new queue, macvtap must do linear search to find a location for the new queue. This will also complicate the TUNSETQUEUE implementation for multiqueue API. - the queue itself didn't track the queue index, so the we must do a linear search in the array to find the location of a existed queue. 2013-06-07macvtap: fix a possible race between queue selection and changing queuesJason Wang
Complier may generate codes that re-read the vlan->numvtaps during macvtap_get_queue(). This may lead a race if vlan->numvtaps were changed in the same time and which can lead unexpected result (e.g. very huge value). We are trying to get away from the current driver's scheme of identifying a SoC based on #ifdef's and the platform device ID table matching seems to be a good replacement -- we can use the 'driver_data' field of 'struct platform_device_id' as a pointer to a 'struct sh_eth_cpu_data'. Start by creating the initial table with driver's name as the only entry without the driver data. Check the driver data in the probe() method and if it's not NULL override 'mdp->cd' from it. The first two fix the case where full RCU debugging is enabled, enabling function tracing causes a live lock of the system. This is due to the added debug checks in rcu_dereference_raw() that is used by the function tracer. These checks are also traced by the function tracer as well as cause enough overhead to the function tracer to slow down the system enough that the time to finish an interrupt can take longer than when the next interrupt is triggered, causing a live lock from the timer interrupt. Talking this over with Paul McKenney, we came up with a fix that adds a new rcu_dereference_raw_notrace() that does not perform these added checks, and let the function tracer use that. The third commit fixes a failed compile when branch tracing is enabled, due to the conversion of the trace_test_buffer() selftest that the branch trace wasn't converted for. The forth patch fixes a bug caught by the RCU lockdep code where a rcu_read_lock() is performed when rcu is disabled (either going to or from idle, or user space). This happened on the irqsoff tracer as it calls task_uid(). The fix here was to use current_uid() when possible that doesn't use rcu locking. Commit 9f29ab11ddbf ("ACPI / scan: do not match drivers against objects having scan handlers") introduced a boot regression on Tony's ia64 HP rx2600. Tony says: "It panics with the message: Kernel panic - not syncing: Unable to find SBA IOMMU: Try a generic or DIG kernel [...] my problem comes from arch/ia64/hp/common/sba_iommu.c where the code in sba_init() says: acpi_bus_register_driver(&acpi_sba_ioc_driver); if (!ioc_list) { but because of this change we never managed to call ioc_init() so ioc_list doesn't get set up, and we die." If the early MMU mapping of the UART happens to get booted out of the TLB between the start of paging_init() and when we finally re-add the UART at the very end of s3c_init_cpu(), we'll get a hang at bootup if we've got early_printk enabled. Avoid this hang by calling debug_ll_io_init() early. Without this patch, you can reliably reproduce a hang when early printk is enabled by adding flush_tlb_all() at the start of exynos_init_io(). Printing low-level debug messages make an assumption that the specified UART port has been preconfigured by the bootloader. Incorrectly specified UART port results in system getting stalled while printing the message "Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel" This UART port number is specified through S3C_LOWLEVEL_UART_PORT. Since the UART port might different for different board, it is not possible to specify it correctly for every board that use a common defconfig file. Calling this print subroutine only when DEBUG_LL fixes the problem. By disabling DEBUG_LL in default config file, we would be able to boot multiple boards with different default UART ports. With this current approach, we miss the print "Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel." when DEBUG_LL is not defined. 2013-06-07netlink: allow large data transfers from user-spacePablo Neira Ayuso
I can hit ENOBUFS in the sendmsg() path with a large batch that is composed of many netlink messages. Here that limit is 8 MBytes of skbuff data area as kmalloc does not manage to get more than that. While discussing atomic rule-set for nftables with Patrick McHardy, we decided to put all rule-set updates that need to be applied atomically in one single batch to simplify the existing approach. However, as explained above, the existing netlink code limits us to a maximum of ~20000 rules that fit in one single batch without hitting ENOBUFS. iptables does not have such limitation as it is using vmalloc. This patch adds netlink_alloc_large_skb() which is only used in the netlink_sendmsg() path. It uses alloc_skb if the memory requested is <= one memory page, that should be the common case for most subsystems, else vmalloc for higher memory allocations. Currently, if fail_over_mac is set to active, then attempts to change the MAC of the bond itself silently fail. However, if fail_over_mac is set to follow, changes are permitted. Permitting the bond's MAC to change with fail_over_mac=follow will disrupt the follow functionality, which normally controls the assignment of MAC address to the bond and its slaves, and can cause multiple ports to be assigned the same MAC address. which will interfere with the functioning of the device (where the device here is a virtualization-aware card for s390, qeth). 2013-06-07bonding: Convert hw addr handling to sync/unsync, support ucast addressesJay Vosburgh
This patch converts bonding to use the dev_uc/mc_sync and dev_uc/mc_sync_multiple functions for updating the hardware addresses of bonding slaves. The existing functions to add or remove addresses are removed, and their functionality is replaced with calls to dev_mc_sync or dev_mc_sync_multiple, depending upon the bonding mode. Calls to dev_uc_sync and dev_uc_sync_multiple are also added, so that unicast addresses added to a bond will be properly synced with its slaves. Various functions are renamed to better reflect the new situation, and relevant comments are updated. On a system with both MAX1617 and JC42 sensors, JC42 sensors can be misdetected as LM84. Strengthen detection sufficiently enough to avoid this misdetection. Also improve detection for ADM1021. When calling snd_soc_dapm_sync(), it eventually tries to lock the same mutex already locked in snd_soc_dapm_put_volsw_aic3x() and a deadlock occurs. By moving the mutex unlock to just before snd_soc_dapm_sync(), this deadlock is prevented. 2013-06-07ncpfs: fix rmdir returns Device or resource busyDave Chiluk
1d2ef5901483004d74947bbf78d5146c24038fe7 caused a regression in ncpfs such that directories could no longer be removed. This was because ncp_rmdir checked to see if a dentry could be unhashed before allowing it to be removed. Since 1d2ef5901483004d74947bbf78d5146c24038fe7 introduced a change that incremented dentry->d_count causing it to always be greater than 1 unhash would always fail. Thus causing the error path in ncp_rmdir to always be taken. Removing this error path is safe as unhashing is still accomplished by calls to dput from vfs_rmdir. 2013-06-07ASoC: dapm: Treat DAI widgets like AIF widgets for powerMark Brown
Even though they are virtual widgets DAI widgets still get counted for the DAPM context power management so we can't just use the active state to check if they should be powered as they may not be part of a complete path. Instead split them into input and output widgets and do the same power checks as we perform on AIFs. Commit b378549 (ACPI / PM: Do not power manage devices in unknown initial states) added code to force devices without _PSC, but having _PS0 defined in the ACPI namespace, into ACPI power state D0 by executing _PS0 for them. That turned out to break Toshiba P870-303, however, so revert that code.
