2011-11-14ipv6: reduce percpu needs for icmpv6msg mibsEric Dumazet
Reading /proc/net/snmp6 on a machine with a lot of cpus is very expensive (can be ~88000 us). This is because ICMPV6MSG MIB uses 4096 bytes per cpu, and folding values for all possible cpus can read 16 Mbytes of memory (32MBytes on non x86 arches) ICMP messages are not considered as fast path on a typical server, and eventually few cpus handle them anyway. We can afford an atomic operation instead of using percpu data. This saves 4096 bytes per cpu and per network namespace. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2011-11-14rds: drop "select LLIST"Paul Bolle
Commit 1bc144b625 ("net, rds, Replace xlist in net/rds/xlist.h with llist") added "select LLIST" to the RDS_RDMA Kconfig entry. But there is no Kconfig symbol named LLIST. The select statement for that symbol is a nop. Drop it. lib/llist.o is builtin, so all that's needed to use the llist functionality is to include linux/llist.h, which this commit also did. 2011-11-14net/packet: remove dead code and unneeded variable from ↵Jesper Juhl
prb_setup_retire_blk_timer() We test for 'tx_ring' being != zero and BUG() if that's the case. So after that check there is no way that 'tx_ring' could be anything _but_ zero, so testing it again is just dead code. Once that dead code is removed, the 'pkc' local variable becomes entirely redundant, so remove that as well. Signed-off-by: Jesper Juhl <jj@chaosbits.net> Signed-off-by: David S. 2011-11-14virtio-pci: fix use after freeMichael S. Tsirkin
Commit 31a3ddda166cda86d2b5111e09ba4bda5239fae6 introduced a use after free in virtio-pci. The main issue is that the release method signals removal of the virtio device, while remove signals removal of the pci device. For example, on driver removal or hot-unplug, virtio_pci_release_dev is called before virtio_pci_remove. We then might get a crash as virtio_pci_remove tries to use the device freed by virtio_pci_release_dev. We allocate/free all resources together with the pci device, so we can leave the release method empty. Signed-off-by: Michael S. 2011-11-13net: introduce ethernet teaming deviceJiri Pirko
This patch introduces new network device called team. It supposes to be very fast, simple, userspace-driven alternative to existing bonding driver. Userspace library called libteam with couple of demo apps is available here: https://github.com/jpirko/libteam Note it's still in its dipers atm. team<->libteam use generic netlink for communication. That and rtnl suppose to be the only way to configure team device, no sysfs etc. Python binding of libteam was recently introduced. Daemon providing arpmon/miimon active-backup functionality will be introduced shortly. All what's necessary is already implemented in kernel team driver. v7->v8: - check ndo_ndo_vlan_rx_[add/kill]_vid functions before calling them. - use dev_kfree_skb_any() instead of dev_kfree_skb() v6->v7: - transmit and receive functions are not checked in hot paths. That also resolves memory leak on transmit when no port is present v5->v6: - changed couple of _rcu calls to non _rcu ones in non-readers v4->v5: - team_change_mtu() uses team->lock while travesing though port list - mac address changes are moved completely to jurisdiction of userspace daemon. This way the daemon can do FOM1, FOM2 and possibly other weird things with mac addresses. Only round-robin mode sets up all ports to bond's address then enslaved. - Extended Kconfig text v3->v4: - remove redundant synchronize_rcu from __team_change_mode() - revert "set and clear of mode_ops happens per pointer, not per byte" - extend comment of function __team_change_mode() v2->v3: - team_change_mtu() uses rcu version of list traversal to unwind - set and clear of mode_ops happens per pointer, not per byte - port hashlist changed to be embedded into team structure - error branch in team_port_enter() does cleanup now - fixed rtln->rtnl v1->v2: - modes are made as modules. Makes team more modular and extendable. - several commenters' nitpicks found on v1 were fixed - several other bugs were fixed. - note I ignored Eric's comment about roundrobin port selector as Eric's way may be easily implemented as another mode (mode "random") in future. 2011-11-12ACPI / cpuidle: Remove acpi_idle_suspend (to fix suspend regression)Rafael J. Wysocki
After commit e978aa7d7d57 ("cpuidle: Move dev->last_residency update to driver enter routine; remove dev->last_state") setting acpi_idle_suspend to 1 by acpi_processor_suspend() causes the ACPI cpuidle routines to return error codes continuously, which in turn causes cpuidle to lock up (hard). However, acpi_idle_suspend doesn't appear to be useful for any particular purpose (it's racy and doesn't really provide any real protection), so it can be removed, which makes the problem go away. 2011-11-12ah: Don't return NET_XMIT_DROP on input.Nick Bowler
When the ahash driver returns -EBUSY, AH4/6 input functions return NET_XMIT_DROP, presumably copied from the output code path. But returning transmit codes on input doesn't make a lot of sense. Since NET_XMIT_DROP is a positive int, this gets interpreted as the next header type (i.e., success). As that can only end badly, remove the check. 2011-11-12ARM: 7160/1: setup: avoid overflowing {elf,arch}_name from proc_info_listWill Deacon
setup_processor copies the arch_name and elf_name fields out of the selected proc_info_list into two fixed size buffers. Since the proc_info_list structure is defined in a proc_*.S assembly file, this can lead to subtle errors if the strings defined there are too long (for example, corrupting the machine ID). 2011-11-11vrtc: change its year offset from 1960 to 1972Feng Tang
Real world year equals the value in vrtc YEAR register plus an offset. We used 1960 as the offset to make leap year consistent, but for a device's first use, its YEAR register is 0 and the system year will be parsed as 1960 which is not a valid UNIX time and will cause many applications to fail mysteriously. So we use 1972 instead to fix this issue. Updated patch which adds a sanity check suggested by Mathias This isn't a change in behaviour for systems, because 1972 is the one we actually use.
