2017-01-31PM / devfreq: Remove unnecessary separate _remove_devfreq()Chanwoo Choi
The _remove_devfreq() releases the all resources of the devfreq device. This function is only called in the devfreq_dev_release(). For that reason, the devfreq core doesn't need to leave the _remove_devfreq() separately. This patch releases the all resources in the devfreq_dev_release() and then removes the _remove_devfreq(). 2017-01-31PM / devfreq: Don't delete sysfs group twiceChris Diamand
The 'userspace' governor adds a sysfs entry, which is removed when the governor is changed, or the devfreq device is released. However, when the latter occurs via device_unregister(), device_del() is called first, which removes the sysfs entries recursively and deletes the kobject. This means we get an Oops when the governor calls sysfs_remove_group() on the deleted kobject. Fix this by only doing the call when kobj *hasn't* been kobject_del()'d. Note that we can't just remove the call to sysfs_remove_group() entirely - it's needed for when the governor is changed to one which doesn't need a sysfs entry. This patch series addresses both of these issues. The queues are fixed by simply zeroing the memory before use. PIO errors from userspace will result in a SIGBUS being sent to the user process. The MEM errors form userspace will result in a SIGKILL and also cause the offending pages to be claimed so they are no longer used in future tasks. SIGKILL is used to ensure that the process does not try to coredump and result in an attempt to read the memory again from within kernel space. Although there is a HV call to scrub the memory (mem_scrub), there is no easy way to guarantee that the real memory address(es) are not used by other tasks. Clearing the error with mem_scrub would zero the memory and cause the other processes to proceed with bad data. 2017-01-30sparc64: Zero pages on allocation for mondo and error queues.Liam R. Howlett
Error queues use a non-zero first word to detect if the queues are full. Using pages that have not been zeroed may result in false positive overflow events. These queues are set up once during boot so zeroing all mondo and error queue pages is safe. Note that the false positive overflow does not always occur because the page allocation for these queues is so early in the boot cycle that higher number CPUs get fresh pages. It is only when traps are serviced with lower number CPUs who were given already used pages that this issue is exposed. Signed-off-by: Liam R. 2017-01-30net/mlx4_core: Avoid command timeouts during VF driver device shutdownJack Morgenstein
Some Hypervisors detach VFs from VMs by instantly causing an FLR event to be generated for a VF. In the mlx4 case, this will cause that VF's comm channel to be disabled before the VM has an opportunity to invoke the VF device's "shutdown" method. The result is that the VF driver on the VM will experience a command timeout during the shutdown process when the Hypervisor does not deliver a command-completion event to the VM. To avoid FW command timeouts on the VM when the driver's shutdown method is invoked, we detect the absence of the VF's comm channel at the very start of the shutdown process. If the comm-channel has already been disabled, we cause all FW commands during the device shutdown process to immediately return success (and thus avoid all command timeouts). 2017-01-30[media] adv7604: Initialize drive strength to default when using DTLars-Peter Clausen
The adv7604 driver platform data contains fields for configuring the drive strength of the output pins. When probing the driver through DT these fields are not explicitly initialized, which means they are left at 0. This is a reserved setting for the drive strength configuration though and can cause signal integrity issues. Whether these signal integrity issues are visible depends on the PCB specifics (e.g. the higher the load capacitance for the output the more visible the issue). But it has been observed on existing solutions at high pixel clock rates. Initialize the drive strength settings to the power-on-reset value of the device when probing through devicetree to avoid this issue. 2017-01-30[media] staging: lirc_imon: port remaining usb ids to imon and removeSean Young
The staging lirc_imon driver contains 4 usb ids. Two of those have a VFD and two don't. The VFD code is exactly the same in the mainline imon driver, so that part is easily ported. The staging driver produces raw IR rather than scancodes for the four devices, so I've ported the raw IR code from staging to mainline imon. Now that mainline imon can handle these four devices, lirc_imon is no longer needed. Compile tested only. This driver is for an old mach64 VT board, which also has a framebuffer driver (atyfb) and userspace mach64 X driver. It was merged in 2010 and noone has attempted to port it to rc-core, which would be necessary to get it out of staging. I have not been able to track down the hardware either. 2017-01-30[media] staging: lirc_parallel: removeSean Young
The lirc_parallel driver was merged in 2010 and noone has attempted to do the work necessary to get it out of staging (i.e. port it to rc-core). I have not been able to find one of these devices, and a machine with a parallel port is pretty rare too. 2017-01-30[media] rc: add support for IR LEDs driven through SPIAndi Shyti
The ir-spi is a simple device driver which supports the connection between an IR LED and the MOSI line of an SPI device. The driver, indeed, uses the SPI framework to stream the raw data provided by userspace through an rc character device. The chardev is handled by the LIRC framework and its functionality basically provides: - write: the driver gets a pulse/space signal and translates it to a binary signal that will be streamed to the IR led through the SPI framework. - set frequency: sets the frequency whith which the data should be sent. This is handle with ioctl with the LIRC_SET_SEND_CARRIER flag (as per lirc documentation) - set duty cycle: this is also handled with ioctl with the LIRC_SET_SEND_DUTY_CYCLE flag. The driver handles duty cycles of 50%, 60%, 70%, 75%, 80% and 90%, calculated on 16bit data. The character device is created under /dev/lircX name, where X is and ID assigned by the LIRC framework.
