I haven't had time to work on this driver for a long time and Ferruh has been doing a great job making it more generic, adding support for new hardware and providing bug fixes. So, let's make MAINTAINERS reflect reality and add him as the cyttsp maintainer instead of me. Also, since Ferruh works for Cypress, we may change the driver status from Maintained to Supported. 2013-08-29xfs: don't account buffer cancellation during log recovery readaheadDave Chinner
When doing readhaead in log recovery, we check to see if buffers are cancelled before doing readahead. If we find a cancelled buffer, however, we always decrement the reference count we have on it, and that means that readahead is causing a double decrement of the cancelled buffer reference count. This results in log recovery *replaying cancelled buffers* as the actual recovery pass does not find the cancelled buffer entry in the commit phase of the second pass across a transaction. On debug kernels, this results in an ASSERT failure like so: XFS: Assertion failed: !(flags & XFS_BLF_CANCEL), file: fs/xfs/xfs_log_recover.c, line: 1815 xfstests generic/311 reproduces this ASSERT failure with 100% reproducability. Fix it by making readahead only peek at the buffer cancelled state rather than the full accounting that xlog_check_buffer_cancelled() does. 2013-08-29cgroup: fix rmdir EBUSY regression in 3.11Hugh Dickins
On 3.11-rc we are seeing cgroup directories left behind when they should have been removed. Here's a trivial reproducer: cd /sys/fs/cgroup/memory mkdir parent parent/child; rmdir parent/child parent rmdir: failed to remove `parent': Device or resource busy It's because cgroup_destroy_locked() (step 1 of destruction) leaves cgroup on parent's children list, letting cgroup_offline_fn() (step 2 of destruction) remove it; but step 2 is run by work queue, which may not yet have removed the children when parent destruction checks the list. Fix that by checking through a non-empty list of children: if every one of them has already been marked CGRP_DEAD, then it's safe to proceed: those children are invisible to userspace, and should not obstruct rmdir. (I didn't see any reason to keep the cgrp->children checks under the unrelated css_set_lock, so moved them out.) tj: Flattened nested ifs a bit and updated comment so that it's correct on both for-3.11-fixes and for-3.12. 2013-08-29OMAPDSS: fix WARN_ON in 'alpha_blending_enabled' sysfs fileTomi Valkeinen
The code handling 'alpha_blending_enabled' sysfs file contains WARN_ONs in case the feature is not supported on the current platform. Even though only root can write to the file, anyone can read it, thus causing the kernel to get tainted and printing an ugly warning. 2013-08-29OMAPDSS: HDMI: Fix possible NULL referenceTomi Valkeinen
Commit 5391e87d1259 (OMAPDSS: remove dispc's dependency to VENC/HDMI) introduced a possible NULL reference bug in the HDMI driver when setting timings. In practice the bug shouldn't happen, as the timings have been verified earlier, and thus the timings should always be ok. 2013-08-29OMAPDSS: fix DPI and SDI device idsTomi Valkeinen
The DPI and SDI platform devices are currently created with the ID of -1. The ID doesn't currently affect anything. However, we have added regulator supply entries for "omapdss_dpi.0" and "omapdss_sdi.0" to the board files, although these supply entries are not yet used. As the ID used for the devices is -1, these regulator supply entries will not work. To fix the issue, assign ID of 0 to the devices. In the future there may be more than one DPI or SDI output, so it makes sense to have a proper ID for them. OMAPDSS's RFBI encoder driver has not been working for some time. The Nokia N800 is the only board in the mainline that uses RFBI, but it has never been fully functional. The RFBI driver needs to be updated to the new panel model, but as the driver is rather unmaintained and there's no way to test the changes, let's mark the driver as broken. 2013-08-29workqueue: cond_resched() after processing each work itemTejun Heo
If !PREEMPT, a kworker running work items back to back can hog CPU. This becomes dangerous when a self-requeueing work item which is waiting for something to happen races against stop_machine. Such self-requeueing work item would requeue itself indefinitely hogging the kworker and CPU it's running on while stop_machine would wait for that CPU to enter stop_machine while preventing anything else from happening on all other CPUs. The two would deadlock. Jamie Liu reports that this deadlock scenario exists around scsi_requeue_run_queue() and libata port multiplier support, where one port may exclude command processing from other ports. With the right timing, scsi_requeue_run_queue() can end up requeueing itself trying to execute an IO which is asked to be retried while another device has an exclusive access, which in turn can't make forward progress due to stop_machine. Fix it by invoking cond_resched() after executing each work item. Convert the composition of devm_request_mem_region and devm_ioremap to a single call to devm_ioremap_resource. The associated call to platform_get_resource is also simplified and moved next to the new call to devm_ioremap_resource. This was done using a combination of the semantic patches devm_ioremap_resource.cocci and devm_request_and_ioremap.cocci, found in the scripts/coccinelle/api directory. This patch also removes the label exit_busy, to use the error code returned by the failing operation, rather than always -EBUSY. 2013-08-29regmap: rbtree: Make cache_present bitmap per nodeLars-Peter Clausen
With devices which have a dense and small register map but placed at a large offset the global cache_present bitmap imposes a huge memory overhead. Making the cache_present per rbtree node avoids the issue and easily reduces the memory footprint by a factor of ten. For devices with a more sparse map or without a large base register offset the memory usage might increase slightly by a few bytes, but not significantly. E.g. for a device which has ~50 registers at offset 0x4000 the memory footprint of the register cache goes down form 2496 bytes to 175 bytes. Moving the bitmap to a per node basis means that the handling of the bitmap is now cache implementation specific and can no longer be managed by the core. The regcache_sync_block() function is extended by a additional parameter so that the cache implementation can tell the core which registers in the block are set and which are not. The parameter is optional and if NULL the core assumes that all registers are set. The rbtree cache also needs to implement its own drop callback instead of relying on the core to handle this. 2013-08-29regmap: rbtree: Reduce number of nodes, take 2Lars-Peter Clausen
Support for reducing the number of nodes and memory consumption of the rbtree cache by allowing for small unused holes in the node's register cache block was initially added in commit 0c7ed856 ("regmap: Cut down on the average # of nodes in the rbtree cache"). But the commit had problems and so its effect was reverted again in commit 4e67fb5 ("regmap: rbtree: Fix overlapping rbnodes."). This patch brings the feature back of reducing the average number of nodes, which will speedup node look-up, while at the same time also reducing the memory usage of the rbtree cache. This patch takes a slightly different approach than the original patch though. It modifies the adjacent node look-up to not only consider nodes that are just one to the left or the right of the register but any node that falls in a certain range around the register. The range is calculated based on how much memory it would take to allocate a new node compared to how much memory it takes adding a set of unused registers to an existing node. E.g. if a node takes up 24 bytes and each register in a block uses 1 byte the range will be from the register address - 24 to the register address + 24. If we find a node that falls within this range it is cheaper or as expensive to add the register to the existing node and have a couple of unused registers in the node's cache compared to allocating a new node. The current ARC VM code has 13 flags in Page Table entry: some software (accesed/dirty/non-linear-maps) and rest hardware specific. With 8k MMU page, we need 19 bits for addressing page frame so remaining 13 bits is just about enough to accomodate the current flags. In MMUv4 there are 2 additional flags, SZ (normal or super page) and WT (cache access mode write-thru) - and additionally PFN is 20 bits (vs. 19 before for 8k). Thus these can't be held in current PTE w/o making each entry 64bit wide. It seems there is some scope of compressing the current PTE flags (and freeing up a few bits). Currently PTE contains fully orthogonal distinct access permissions for kernel and user mode (Kr, Kw, Kx; Ur, Uw, Ux) which can be folded into one set (R, W, X). The translation of 3 PTE bits into 6 TLB bits (when programming the MMU) can be done based on following pre-requites/assumptions: 1. For kernel-mode-only translations (vmalloc: 0x7000_0000 to 0x7FFF_FFFF), PTE additionally has PAGE_GLOBAL flag set (and user space entries can never be global). Thus such a PTE can translate to Kr, Kw, Kx (as appropriate) and zero for User mode counterparts. 2. For non global entries, the PTE flags can be used to create mirrored K and U TLB bits. This is true after commit a950549c675f2c8c504 "ARC: copy_(to|from)_user() to honor usermode-access permissions" which ensured that user-space translations _MUST_ have same access permissions for both U/K mode accesses so that copy_{to,from}_user() play fair with fault based CoW break and such... The last remaining use for the storage key of the s390 architecture is reference counting. The alternative is to make page table entries invalid while they are old. On access the fault handler marks the pte/pmd as young which makes the pte/pmd valid if the access rights allow read access. The pte/pmd invalidations required for software managed reference bits cost a bit of performance, on the other hand the RRBE/RRBM instructions to read and reset the referenced bits are quite expensive as well. This patch adds GB speed support for QSFP+ modules. Autonegotiation is not supported with QSFP+. The user will have to set the desired speed on both link partners using ethtool advertise setting.
