2024-01-19wifi: ath12k: add support for collecting firmware logBaochen Qiang
Currently there is no way to collect firmware log because firmware does not send it to host. Also host does not handle WMI_DIAG_EVENTID which is used by firmware to upload firmware log. So add support for it by firstly enabling firmware log upload via a QMI message, and secondly processing WMI DIAG event to expose it to userspace via trace event. This change applies to both WCN7850 and QCN9274. 2024-01-19wifi: ath12k: Introduce the container for mac80211 hwKarthikeyan Periyasamy
To support multi link operation, we need to combine all the link/pdev under a single wiphy. This avoids the overhead of synchronization across multiple hardware instances in both the cfg80211 and mac80211 layers. Currently, each link/pdev is registered as separate wiphy, tightly coupled with link/pdev/radio (ar) structure. To enable single wiphy registration within the chip, we decouple the wiphy data entity from the link/pdev/radio (ar) structure and move it under the chip (ab) structure with a new data container (ath12k_hw) structure. 2024-01-19wifi: rtlwifi: Speed up firmware loading for USBBitterblue Smith
Currently it takes almost 6 seconds to upload the firmware for RTL8192CU (and 11 seconds for RTL8192DU). That's because the firmware is uploaded one byte at a time. Also, after plugging the device, the firmware gets uploaded three times before a connection to the AP is established. Maybe this is fine for most users, but when testing changes to the driver it's really annoying to wait so long. Speed up the firmware upload by writing chunks of 64 bytes at a time. This way it takes about 110 ms for RTL8192CU (and about 210 ms for RTL8192DU). PCI devices could upload it in chunks of 4 bytes, but I don't have any to test and commit 89d32c9071aa ("rtlwifi: Download firmware as bytes rather than as dwords") decided otherwise anyway. Allocate memory for the firmware image with kmalloc instead of vzalloc because this memory is passed directly to usb_control_msg(), which can't take memory allocated by vmalloc. 2024-01-19wifi: rtl8xxxu: add missing number of sec cam entries for all variantsMartin Kaistra
Commit b837f78fbffa ("wifi: rtl8xxxu: add hw crypto support for AP mode") introduced max_sec_cam_num as a member of rtl8xxxu_fileops. It was missed to set this number for all variants except 8188f, which caused rtl8xxxu_get_free_sec_cam() to always return 0 and therefore breaking encrypted traffic. Fix it by adding the numbers for all variants. The values are taken from the vendor drivers and rtlwifi. 2024-01-19wifi: brcmfmac: allow per-vendor event handlingArend van Spriel
The firmware interface also defines events generated by firmware on the device. As the get/set primitives the events are likely to diverge between the vendors so this commit adds support for per-vendor handling. The number of events may differ so we let the vendor-specific code allocate the struct brcmf_fweh_info which contains array of event handlers. The existing event enumeration will be used by the higher layers and thus are common definitions. The vendor-specific code can provide a mapping table for converting the common definition to the vendor-specific firmware event definition and vice-versa. 2024-01-19wifi: brcmfmac: cfg80211: Use WSEC to set SAE passwordHector Martin
Using the WSEC command instead of sae_password seems to be the supported mechanism on newer firmware, and also how the brcmdhd driver does it. The existing firmware mechanism intended for (some) Cypress chips has been separated from the new firmware mechanism using the multi-vendor framework. Depending on the device it will select the appropriate firmware mechanism. This makes WPA3 work with iwd, or with wpa_supplicant pending a support patchset [2]. 2024-01-19wifi: brcmfmac: add per-vendor feature detection callbackArend van Spriel
Adding a .feat_attach() callback allowing per-vendor overrides of the driver feature flags. In this patch the callback is only provided by BCA vendor to disable SAE feature as it has not been confirmed yet. BCA chips generally do not have the in-driver supplicant (idsup) feature so they rely on NL80211_CMD_EXTERNAL_AUTH to trigger user-space authentication. This is the candidate patch of CVE-2023-47233 : https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-47233 In brcm80211 driver,it starts with the following invoking chain to start init a timeout worker: ->brcmf_usb_probe ->brcmf_usb_probe_cb ->brcmf_attach ->brcmf_bus_started ->brcmf_cfg80211_attach ->wl_init_priv ->brcmf_init_escan ->INIT_WORK(&cfg->escan_timeout_work, brcmf_cfg80211_escan_timeout_worker); If we disconnect the USB by hotplug, it will call brcmf_usb_disconnect to make cleanup. The invoking chain is : brcmf_usb_disconnect ->brcmf_usb_disconnect_cb ->brcmf_detach ->brcmf_cfg80211_detach ->kfree(cfg); While the timeout woker may still be running. This will cause a use-after-free bug on cfg in brcmf_cfg80211_escan_timeout_worker. Fix it by deleting the timer and canceling the worker in brcmf_cfg80211_detach. 2024-01-18wifi: mwifiex: debugfs: Drop unnecessary error check for debugfs_create_dir()Jinjie Ruan
debugfs_create_dir() returns ERR_PTR and never return NULL. As Russell suggested, this patch removes the error checking for debugfs_create_dir(). This is because the DebugFS kernel API is developed in a way that the caller can safely ignore the errors that occur during the creation of DebugFS nodes. The debugfs APIs have a IS_ERR() judge in start_creating() which can handle it gracefully. So these checks are unnecessary. mac80211 started to delete debugfs entries in certain cases, causing a ath11k to crash when it tried to delete the entries later. Adding then removing a second vif currently makes the first vif not working anymore. This is visible for example when we have a first interface connected to some access point: - create a wpa_supplicant.conf with some AP credentials - wpa_supplicant -Dnl80211 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -i wlan0 - dhclient wlan0 - iw phy phy0 interface add wlan1 type managed - iw dev wlan1 del wlan0 does not manage properly traffic anymore (eg: ping not working) This is due to vif mode being incorrectly reconfigured with some default values in del_virtual_intf, affecting by default first vif. 2024-01-18wifi: wilc1000: fix incorrect power down sequenceAjay Singh
Use the correct register configuration when the WILC chip is down so the successive interface up operation is successful. The modified registers values during chip down helps to avoid the "FW not responding" debug message which sometimes occurs because of temporary bus communication failure during the next start. Also, make sure on first communication with the chip that it is indeed woken up. 2024-01-18wifi: wilc1000: do not realloc workqueue everytime an interface is addedAjay Singh
Commit 09ed8bfc5215 ("wilc1000: Rename workqueue from "WILC_wq" to "NETDEV-wq"") moved workqueue creation in wilc_netdev_ifc_init in order to set the interface name in the workqueue name. However, while the driver needs only one workqueue, the wilc_netdev_ifc_init is called each time we add an interface over a phy, which in turns overwrite the workqueue with a new one. Regarding the workqueue name, it is indeed relevant to set it lowercase, however it is not attached to a specific netdev, so enforcing netdev name in the name is not so relevant. Still, enrich the name with the wiphy name to make it clear which phy is using the workqueue. Instead of reading bit 9 of RFPGA0_XA_HSSIPARAMETER2 every time a frame is received, just use rtlphy->cck_high_power, which is initialised in _rtl92d_phy_bb_config(). That bit never changes anyway. According to IEEE Std. 802.11, it defines: Indicates whether the STA is capable of interpreting the Extended NSS BW Support subfield of the VHT Capabilities Information field. 2024-01-18wifi: ath12k: change MAC buffer ring size to 2048Baochen Qiang
For WCN7850, there is a SRNG named MAC buffer ring, i.e., dp->rx_mac_buf_ring. During initialization, it is setup by host and then under control of firmware. During RX process, firmware fetches buffers from dp->rx_refill_buf_ring to fill that MAC buffer ring, and those buffers are taken by RXDMA to carry real WLAN frames received from air. Currently a low RX throughput is observed. Checking firmware log, lots of errors are reported by MAC buffer ring, complaining that it is running out of buffers, which further indicates that RXDMA is suffering from starvation. Currently the size of dp->rx_mac_buf_ring is configured as 1024. After changing it to 2048, those error messages are reduced, and a 6.4% increase is seen in peak throughput. Note that 2048 is an empirical value. It is chosen here because the RX throughput meets our expectation after the change. This change only applies to WCN7850 since other chips don't have a MAC buffer ring. Currently the maximum block ACK window size supported is 256. This results in that, when connected to an AP which supports larger BA sizes like BA512 or BA1024, only BA256 is established, leading to a lower peak throughput. So add support for BA1024, this is done by allocating a larger REO queue and advertising IEEE80211_MAX_AMPDU_BUF_EHT support to MAC80211. Currently, the number of PHY is learned from the firmware service ready event message. However, on the QCN9274 platform, number of PHY is a variable parameter. To enable MLO capability in the QMI host capability request message, the driver needs the PHY count information earlier than the firmware service ready event. Therefore, a new QMI message, "PHY capability message", is introduced to retrieve this information. This message allows the driver to fill in the MLO parameter in the QMI host capability request message. If the new QMI PHY capability message fails, the default configuration in the HW params will be used.
