2023-08-17Revert "drm/edid: Fix csync detailed mode parsing"Jani Nikula
This reverts commit ca62297b2085b5b3168bd891ca24862242c635a1. Commit ca62297b2085 ("drm/edid: Fix csync detailed mode parsing") fixed EDID detailed mode sync parsing. Unfortunately, there are quite a few displays out there that have bogus (zero) sync field that are broken by the change. Zero means analog composite sync, which is not right for digital displays, and the modes get rejected. Regardless, it used to work, and it needs to continue to work. Revert the change. Rejecting modes with analog composite sync was the part that fixed the gitlab issue 8146 [1]. We'll need to get back to the drawing board with that. The CS42L43 is an audio CODEC with integrated MIPI SoundWire interface (Version 1.2.1 compliant), I2C, SPI, and I2S/TDM interfaces designed for portable applications. It provides a high dynamic range, stereo DAC for headphone output, two integrated Class D amplifiers for loudspeakers, and two ADCs for wired headset microphone input or stereo line input. PDM inputs are provided for digital microphones. Add a basic pinctrl driver which supports driver strength for the various pins, gpios, and pinmux for the 2 multi-function pins. 2023-08-17soundwire: bus: Allow SoundWire peripherals to register IRQ handlersLucas Tanure
Currently the in-band alerts for SoundWire peripherals can only be communicated to the driver through the interrupt_callback function. This however is slightly inconvenient for devices that wish to share IRQ handling code between SoundWire and I2C/SPI, the later would normally register an IRQ handler with the IRQ subsystem. However there is no reason the SoundWire in-band IRQs can not also be communicated as an actual IRQ to the driver. Add support for SoundWire peripherals to register a normal IRQ handler to receive SoundWire in-band alerts, allowing code to be shared across control buses. Note that we allow users to use both the interrupt_callback and the IRQ handler, this is useful for devices which must clear additional chip specific SoundWire registers that are not a part of the normal IRQ flow, or the SoundWire specification. 2023-08-17cpuidle: menu: Skip tick_nohz_get_sleep_length() call in some casesRafael J. Wysocki
Because the cost of calling tick_nohz_get_sleep_length() may increase in the future, reorder the code in menu_select() so it first uses the statistics to determine the expected idle duration. If that value is higher than RESIDENCY_THRESHOLD_NS, tick_nohz_get_sleep_length() will be called to obtain the time till the closest timer and refine the idle duration prediction if necessary. This causes the governor to always take the full overhead of get_typical_interval() with the assumption that the cost will be amortized by skipping the tick_nohz_get_sleep_length() call in the cases when the predicted idle duration is relatively very small. 2023-08-17ACPI: thermal: Carry out trip point updates under zone lockRafael J. Wysocki
There is a race condition between acpi_thermal_trips_update() and acpi_thermal_check_fn(), because the trip points may get updated while the latter is running which in theory may lead to inconsistent results. For example, if two trips are updated together, using the temperature value of one of them from before the update and the temperature value of the other one from after the update may not lead to the expected outcome. Moreover, if thermal_get_trend() runs when a trip points update is in progress, it may end up using stale trip point temperatures. To address this, make acpi_thermal_trips_update() call thermal_zone_device_exec() to carry out the trip points update and use a new acpi_thermal_adjust_thermal_zone() wrapper around __acpi_thermal_trips_update() as the callback function for the latter. The cpufreq framework used to use the zero of return value to reflect the cppc_cpufreq_get_rate() had failed to get current frequecy and treat all positive integer to be succeed. Since cppc_get_perf_ctrs() returns a negative integer in error case, so it is better to convert the value to zero as the return value of cppc_cpufreq_get_rate(). 2023-08-16net: dsa: mv88e6xxx: Wait for EEPROM done before HW resetAlfred Lee
If the switch is reset during active EEPROM transactions, as in just after an SoC reset after power up, the I2C bus transaction may be cut short leaving the EEPROM internal I2C state machine in the wrong state. When the switch is reset again, the bad state machine state may result in data being read from the wrong memory location causing the switch to enter unexpected mode rendering it inoperational. 2023-08-16net/mlx5e: XDP, Fix fifo overrun on XDP_REDIRECTDragos Tatulea
Before this fix, running high rate traffic through XDP_REDIRECT with multibuf could overrun the fifo used to release the xdp frames after tx completion. This resulted in corrupted data being consumed on the free side. The culplirt was a miscalculation of the fifo size: the maximum ratio between fifo entries / data segments was incorrect. This ratio serves to calculate the max fifo size for a full sq where each packet uses the worst case number of entries in the fifo. This patch fixes the formula and names the constant. It also makes sure that future values will use a power of 2 number of entries for the fifo mask to work. 2023-08-16drm/amd: flush any delayed gfxoff on suspend entryMario Limonciello
DCN 3.1.4 is reported to hang on s2idle entry if graphics activity is happening during entry. This is because GFXOFF was scheduled as delayed but RLC gets disabled in s2idle entry sequence which will hang GFX IP if not already in GFXOFF. To help this problem, flush any delayed work for GFXOFF early in s2idle entry sequence to ensure that it's off when RLC is changed. commit 4b31b92b143f ("drm/amdgpu: complete gfxoff allow signal during suspend without delay") modified power gating flow so that if called in s0ix that it ensured that GFXOFF wasn't put in work queue but instead processed immediately. This is dead code due to commit 10cb67eb8a1b ("drm/amdgpu: skip CG/PG for gfx during S0ix") because GFXOFF will now not be explicitly called as part of the suspend entry code. Remove that dead code. 2023-08-16drm/amdgpu: skip xcp drm device allocation when out of drm resourceJames Zhu
Return 0 when drm device alloc failed with -ENOSPC in order to allow amdgpu drive loading. But the xcp without drm device node assigned won't be visiable in user space. This helps amdgpu driver loading on system which has more than 64 nodes, the current limitation. Finally, fix 3 structures which are allocated technically correctly, i.e. the calculated size equals to the one that struct_size() would return, except for sizeof(). For &virtchnl_vlan_filter_list_v2, use the same approach when there are no enough space as taken previously for &virtchnl_vlan_filter_list, i.e. let the maximum size be calculated automatically instead of trying to guestimate it using maths. 2023-08-16virtchnl: fix fake 1-elem arrays in structures allocated as `nents + 1`Alexander Lobakin
There are five virtchnl structures, which are allocated and checked in the code as `nents + 1`, meaning that they always have memory for one excessive element regardless of their actual number. This comes from that their sizeof() includes space for 1 element and then they get allocated via struct_size() or its open-coded equivalents, passing the actual number of elements. Expand virtchnl_struct_size() to handle such structures and replace those 1-elem arrays with proper flex ones. Also fix several places which open-code %IAVF_VIRTCHNL_VF_RESOURCE_SIZE. Finally, let the virtchnl_ether_addr_list size be computed automatically when there's no enough space for the whole list, otherwise we have to open-code reverse struct_size() logics. 2023-08-16virtchnl: fix fake 1-elem arrays in structs allocated as `nents + 1` - 1Alexander Lobakin
The two most problematic virtchnl structures are virtchnl_rss_key and virtchnl_rss_lut. Their "flex" arrays have the type of u8, thus, when allocating / checking, the actual size is calculated as `sizeof + nents - 1 byte`. But their sizeof() is not 1 byte larger than the size of such structure with proper flex array, it's two bytes larger due to the padding. That said, their size is always 1 byte larger unless there are no tail elements -- then it's +2 bytes. Add virtchnl_struct_size() macro which will handle this case (and later other cases as well). Make its calling conv the same as we call struct_size() to allow it to be drop-in, even though it's unlikely to become possible to switch to generic API. The macro will calculate a proper size of a structure with a flex array at the end, so that it becomes transparent for the compilers, but add the difference from the old values, so that the real size of sorta-ABI-messages doesn't change. Use it on the allocation side in IAVF and the receiving side (defined as static inline in virtchnl.h) for the mentioned two structures. 2023-08-16iavf: fix FDIR rule fields masks validationPiotr Gardocki
Return an error if a field's mask is neither full nor empty. When a mask is only partial the field is not being used for rule programming but it gives a wrong impression it is used. Fix by returning an error on any partial mask to make it clear they are not supported. The ip_ver assignment is moved earlier in code to allow using it in iavf_validate_fdir_fltr_masks. 2023-08-16regulator: raa215300: Fix resource leak in case of errorBiju Das
The clk_register_clkdev() allocates memory by calling vclkdev_alloc() and this memory is not freed in the error path. Similarly, resources allocated by clk_register_fixed_rate() are not freed in the error path. Fix these issues by using devm_clk_hw_register_fixed_rate() and devm_clk_hw_register_clkdev(). After this, the static variable clk is not needed. Replace it with  local variable hw in probe() and drop calling clk_unregister_fixed_rate() from raa215300_rtc_unregister_device(). In current driver, counter0 will be enabled after ddr_perf_pmu_enable() is called even though none of the 4 counters are used. This will cause counter0 continue to count until ddr_perf_pmu_disabled() is called. If pmu is not disabled all the time, the pmu interrupt will be asserted from time to time due to counter0 will overflow and irq handler will clear it. It's not an expected behavior. This patch will not enable counter0 if none of 4 counters are used. 2023-08-16perf/imx_ddr: speed up overflow frequency of cycleXu Yang
For i.MX8MP, we cannot ensure that cycle counter overflow occurs at least 4 times as often as other events. Due to byte counters will count for any event configured, it will overflow more often. And if byte counters overflow that related counters would stop since they share the COUNTER_CNTL. We can speed up cycle counter overflow frequency by setting counter parameter (CP) field of cycle counter. In this way, we can avoid stop counting byte counters when interrupt didn't come and the byte counters can be fetched or updated from each cycle counter overflow interrupt. Because we initialize CP filed to shorten counter0 overflow time, the cycle counter will start couting from a fixed/base value each time. We need to remove the base from the result too. Therefore, we could get precise result from cycle counter. Break this circular locking dependency by using two separate locks to protect dmc620_pmu_irqs list and the pmus_node lists respectively. 2023-08-16s390/dcssblk: fix kernel crash with list_add corruptionGerald Schaefer
Commit fb08a1908cb1 ("dax: simplify the dax_device <-> gendisk association") introduced new logic for gendisk association, requiring drivers to explicitly call dax_add_host() and dax_remove_host(). For dcssblk driver, some dax_remove_host() calls were missing, e.g. in device remove path. The commit also broke error handling for out_dax case in device add path, resulting in an extra put_device() w/o the previous get_device() in that case. This lead to stale xarray entries after device add / remove cycles. In the case when a previously used struct gendisk pointer (xarray index) would be used again, because blk_alloc_disk() happened to return such a pointer, the xa_insert() in dax_add_host() would fail and go to out_dax, doing the extra put_device() in the error path. In combination with an already flawed error handling in dcssblk (device_register() cleanup), which needs to be addressed in a separate patch, this resulted in a missing device_del() / klist_del(), and eventually in the kernel crash with list_add corruption on a subsequent device_add() / klist_add(). Fix this by adding the missing dax_remove_host() calls, and also move the put_device() in the error path to restore the previous logic. 2023-08-16s390/mm: make virt_to_pfn() a static inlineLinus Walleij
Making virt_to_pfn() a static inline taking a strongly typed (const void *) makes the contract of a passing a pointer of that type to the function explicit and exposes any misuse of the macro virt_to_pfn() acting polymorphic and accepting many types such as (void *), (unitptr_t) or (unsigned long) as arguments without warnings. For symmetry do the same with pfn_to_virt() reflecting the current layout in asm-generic/page.h. Doing this reveals a number of offenders in the arch code and the S390-specific drivers, so just bite the bullet and fix up all of those as well. After we remove a GPIO chip that still has some requested descriptors, gpiod_free_commit() will fail and we will never put the references to the GPIO device and the owning module in gpiod_free().
