In this case we only gain the ability to have the compiler drop the struct dev_pm_ops because the callbacks are called from paths other than suspend and resume. In general the purpose of this new macro is to allow automated removal of the callbacks as well, but that doesn't apply here. 2022-07-18iio: cros: Register FIFO callback after sensor is registeredGwendal Grignou
Instead of registering callback to process sensor events right at initialization time, wait for the sensor to be register in the iio subsystem. Events can come at probe time (in case the kernel rebooted abruptly without switching the sensor off for instance), and be sent to IIO core before the sensor is fully registered. 2022-07-18iavf: Fix handling of dummy receive descriptorsPrzemyslaw Patynowski
Fix memory leak caused by not handling dummy receive descriptor properly. iavf_get_rx_buffer now sets the rx_buffer return value for dummy receive descriptors. Without this patch, when the hardware writes a dummy descriptor, iavf would not free the page allocated for the previous receive buffer. This is an unlikely event but can still happen. Remove from supported_coalesce_params ETHTOOL_COALESCE_MAX_FRAMES and ETHTOOL_COALESCE_MAX_FRAMES_IRQ. As tx-frames-irq allowed user to change budget for iavf_clean_tx_irq, remove work_limit and use define for budget. Without this patch there would be possibility to change rx/tx-frames and rx/tx-frames-irq, which for rx/tx-frames did nothing, while for rx/tx-frames-irq it changed rx/tx-frames and only changed budget for cleaning NAPI poll. Fix VLAN addition, so that PF driver does not reject whole VLAN batch. Add VLAN reject handling, so rejected VLANs, won't litter VLAN filter list. Fix handling of active_(c/s)vlans, so it will be possible to re-add VLAN filters for user. Without this patch, after changing trust to off, with VLAN filters saturated, no VLAN is added, due to PF rejecting addition. 2022-07-18random: use try_cmpxchg in _credit_init_bitsUros Bizjak
Use `!try_cmpxchg(ptr, &orig, new)` instead of `cmpxchg(ptr, orig, new) != orig` in _credit_init_bits. This has two benefits: - The x86 cmpxchg instruction returns success in the ZF flag, so this change saves a compare after cmpxchg, as well as a related move instruction in front of cmpxchg. - try_cmpxchg implicitly assigns the *ptr value to &orig when cmpxchg fails, enabling further code simplifications. 2022-07-18random: remove CONFIG_ARCH_RANDOMJason A. Donenfeld
When RDRAND was introduced, there was much discussion on whether it should be trusted and how the kernel should handle that. Initially, two mechanisms cropped up, CONFIG_ARCH_RANDOM, a compile time switch, and "nordrand", a boot-time switch. Later the thinking evolved. With a properly designed RNG, using RDRAND values alone won't harm anything, even if the outputs are malicious. Rather, the issue is whether those values are being *trusted* to be good or not. And so a new set of options were introduced as the real ones that people use -- CONFIG_RANDOM_TRUST_CPU and "random.trust_cpu". With these options, RDRAND is used, but it's not always credited. So in the worst case, it does nothing, and in the best case, maybe it helps. Along the way, CONFIG_ARCH_RANDOM's meaning got sort of pulled into the center and became something certain platforms force-select. The old options don't really help with much, and it's a bit odd to have special handling for these instructions when the kernel can deal fine with the existence or untrusted existence or broken existence or non-existence of that CPU capability. Simplify the situation by removing CONFIG_ARCH_RANDOM and using the ordinary asm-generic fallback pattern instead, keeping the two options that are actually used. For now it leaves "nordrand" for now, as the removal of that will take a different route. Both `dev->ee->reg.start` and `.num` are u8 as well. However, the expression as a whole is promoted to an int as you cannot get smaller-than-int from addition. Documentation/core-api/printk-formats.rst specifically recommends using the promoted-to-type's format flag. Moreover, C11 6.3.1.1 states: (https://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n1548.pdf) `If an int can represent all values of the original type ..., the value is converted to an int; otherwise, it is converted to an unsigned int. These are called the integer promotions.` With this information in hand, we really should stop using `%hh[dxu]` or `%h[dxu]` as they usually prompt Clang -Wformat warnings as well as go against documented standard recommendations. 2022-07-18pinctrl: Don't allow PINCTRL_AMD to be a moduleMario Limonciello
It was observed that by allowing pinctrl_amd to be loaded later in the boot process that interrupts sent to the GPIO controller early in the boot are not serviced. The kernel treats these as a spurious IRQ and disables the IRQ. This problem was exacerbated because it happened on a system with an encrypted partition so the kernel object was not accesssible for an extended period of time while waiting for a passphrase. To avoid this situation from occurring, stop allowing pinctrl-amd from being built as a module and instead require it to be built-in or disabled.
