2016-07-18s390/cio/chp : Remove deprecated create_singlethread_workqueueBhaktipriya Shridhar
The workqueue "chp_wq" is involved in performing pending configure tasks for channel paths. It has a single work item(&cfg_work) and hence doesn't require ordering. Also, it is not being used on a memory reclaim path. Hence, the singlethreaded workqueue has been replaced with the use of system_wq. System workqueues have been able to handle high level of concurrency for a long time now and hence it's not required to have a singlethreaded workqueue just to gain concurrency. Unlike a dedicated per-cpu workqueue created with create_singlethread_workqueue(), system_wq allows multiple work items to overlap executions even on the same CPU; however, a per-cpu workqueue doesn't have any CPU locality or global ordering guarantee unless the target CPU is explicitly specified and thus the increase of local concurrency shouldn't make any difference. 2016-07-18drm/vgem: Attach sw fences to exported vGEM dma-buf (ioctl)Chris Wilson
vGEM buffers are useful for passing data between software clients and hardware renders. By allowing the user to create and attach fences to the exported vGEM buffers (on the dma-buf), the user can implement a deferred renderer and queue hardware operations like flipping and then signal the buffer readiness (i.e. this allows the user to schedule operations out-of-order, but have them complete in-order). This also makes it much easier to write tightly controlled testcases for dma-buf fencing and signaling between hardware drivers. v2: Don't pretend the fences exist in an ordered timeline, but allocate a separate fence-context for each fence so that the fences are unordered. v3: Make the debug output more interesting, and show the signaled status. v4: Automatically signal the fence to prevent userspace from indefinitely hanging drivers. 2016-07-17dwc_eth_qos: Remove deprecated create_singlethread_workqueueBhaktipriya Shridhar
alloc_workqueue replaces deprecated create_singlethread_workqueue(). A dedicated workqueue has been used since the workitem viz lp->txtimeout_reinit is involved in reinitialization if a TX timeout occurs, which is necessary to guarantee forward progress in packet processing. As a network device can be used during memory reclaim, the workqueue needs forward progress guarantee under memory pressure. WQ_MEM_RECLAIM has been set to ensure this. Since there is only a single work item, explicit concurrency limit is unnecessary here. Signed-off-by: Bhaktipriya Shridhar <bhaktipriya96@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2016-07-18drm: rcar-du: Remove i2c slave encoder interface for hdmi encoderArchit Taneja
The hdmi output in rcar-du uses the i2c slave encoder interface to link to the adv7511 encoder chip. The kms driver creates encoder and connector entities that internally uses the drm_encoder_slave_funcs ops provided by the slave encoder driver. Change the driver such that it expects a bridge entity instead of a slave encoder. The hdmi connector code isn't needed anymore as we expect the adv7511 bridge driver to create/manage the connector. Note that the kms driver still expects a connector node for hdmi to be present in DT. This node has no connection to the connector created by the bridge driver. 2016-07-17watchdog: change watchdog_need_worker logicRasmus Villemoes
If the driver indicates that the watchdog is running, the framework should feed it until userspace opens the device, regardless of whether the driver has set max_hw_heartbeat_ms. This patch only affects the case where wdd->max_hw_heartbeat_ms is zero, wdd->timeout is non-zero, the watchdog is not active and the hardware device is running (*): - If wdd->timeout is zero, watchdog_need_worker() returns false both before and after this patch, and watchdog_next_keepalive() is not called. - If watchdog_active(wdd), the return value from watchdog_need_worker is also the same as before (namely, hm && t > hm). Hence in that case, watchdog_next_keepalive() is only called if hm == max_hw_heartbeat_ms is non-zero, so the change to min_not_zero there is a no-op. - If the watchdog is not active and the device is not running, we return false from watchdog_need_worker just as before. That leaves the watchdog_hw_running(wdd) && !watchdog_active(wdd) && wdd->timeout case. Again, it's easy to see that if wdd->max_hw_heartbeat_ms is non-zero, we return true from watchdog_need_worker with and without this patch, and the logic in watchdog_next_keepalive is unchanged. Finally, if wdd->max_hw_heartbeat_ms is 0, we used to end up in the cancel_delayed_work branch, whereas with this patch we end up scheduling a ping timeout_ms/2 from now. (*) This should imply that no current kernel drivers are affected, since the only drivers which explicitly set WDOG_HW_RUNNING are imx2_wdt.c and dw_wdt.c, both of which also provide a non-zero value for max_hw_heartbeat_ms. The watchdog core also sets WDOG_HW_RUNNING, but only when the driver doesn't provide ->stop, in which case it must, according to Documentation/watchdog/watchdog-kernel-api.txt, set max_hw_heartbeat_ms. 2016-07-17watchdog: ziirave_wdt: Correct I2C device id to fix module autoloading.Enric Balletbo i Serra
The I2C core removes the manufacturer prefix from the compatible field so it reports to user-space the uevent i2c:rave-wdt, but this doesn't match with the i2c_device_id (i2c:ziirave-wdt) array so the module is not autoloaded. Correct the I2C device id to match with the reported uevent and fix the module autoloading functionality.
