2017-06-12soc: renesas: Rework Kconfig and Makefile logicGeert Uytterhoeven
The goals are to: - Allow precise control over and automatic selection of which (sub)drivers are used for which SoC, - Allow adding support for new SoCs easily, - Allow compile-testing of all (sub)drivers, - Keep driver selection logic in the subsystem-specific Kconfig, independent from the architecture-specific Kconfig (i.e. no "select" from arch/arm64/Kconfig.platforms), to avoid dependencies. This is implemented by: - Introducing Kconfig symbols for all drivers and sub-drivers, - Introducing the Kconfig symbol SOC_RENESAS, which is enabled automatically when building for a Renesas ARM platform, and which enables all required drivers without interaction of the user, based on SoC-specific ARCH_* symbols, - Allowing the user to enable any Kconfig symbol manually if COMPILE_TEST is enabled, - Using the new Kconfig symbols instead of the ARCH_* symbols to control compilation in the Makefile, - Always entering drivers/soc/renesas/ during the build. 2017-06-11compiler, clang: properly override 'inline' for clangLinus Torvalds
Commit abb2ea7dfd82 ("compiler, clang: suppress warning for unused static inline functions") just caused more warnings due to re-defining the 'inline' macro. So undef it before re-defining it, and also add the 'notrace' attribute like the gcc version that this is overriding does. Maybe this makes clang happier. 2017-06-11iio: add hardware triggered operating modeBenjamin Gaignard
Devices, like stm32 timer, could be triggered by hardware events which are not buffer or software events. However it could be necessary to validate the triggers like it is done for buffer or event triggered modes. This patch add a new INDIO_HARDWARE_TRIGGERED operating mode for this kind of devices and allow this mode to register trigger consumer. 2017-06-09block: introduce new block status code typeChristoph Hellwig
Currently we use nornal Linux errno values in the block layer, and while we accept any error a few have overloaded magic meanings. This patch instead introduces a new blk_status_t value that holds block layer specific status codes and explicitly explains their meaning. Helpers to convert from and to the previous special meanings are provided for now, but I suspect we want to get rid of them in the long run - those drivers that have a errno input (e.g. networking) usually get errnos that don't know about the special block layer overloads, and similarly returning them to userspace will usually return somethings that strictly speaking isn't correct for file system operations, but that's left as an exercise for later. For now the set of errors is a very limited set that closely corresponds to the previous overloaded errno values, but there is some low hanging fruite to improve it. blk_status_t (ab)uses the sparse __bitwise annotations to allow for sparse typechecking, so that we can easily catch places passing the wrong values. 2017-06-09w1: Add subsystem kernel public interfaceAndrew F. Davis
Like other subsystems we should be able to define slave devices outside of the w1 directory. To do this we move public facing interface definitions to include/linux/w1.h and rename the internal definition file to w1_internal.h. As w1_family.h and w1_int.h contained almost entirely public driver interface definitions we simply removed these files and moved the remaining definitions into w1_internal.h. With this we can now start to move slave devices out of w1/slaves and into the subsystem based on the function they implement, again like other drivers. Signed-off-by: Andrew F. 2017-06-09KEYS: sanitize key structs before freeingEric Biggers
While a 'struct key' itself normally does not contain sensitive information, Documentation/security/keys.txt actually encourages this: "Having a payload is not required; and the payload can, in fact, just be a value stored in the struct key itself." In case someone has taken this advice, or will take this advice in the future, zero the key structure before freeing it. We might as well, and as a bonus this could make it a bit more difficult for an adversary to determine which keys have recently been in use. This is safe because the key_jar cache does not use a constructor. 2017-06-08rcu: Refactor #includes from include/linux/rcupdate.hPaul E. McKenney
The list of #includes from include/linux/rcupdate.h has grown quite a bit, so it is time to trim it. This commit moves the #include of include/linux/ktime.h to include/linux/rcutiny.h, along with the Tiny-RCU-only function that was the only thing needing ktimem.h. It then reconstructs the files included into include/linux/ktime.h based on what is actually needed, with significant help from the 0day Test Robot. The rcu_segcblist structure provides quite a bit of functionality, and Tiny SRCU needs almost none of it. So this commit replaces Tiny SRCU's uses of rcu_segcblist with a simple singly linked list with tail pointer. This change significantly reduces Tiny SRCU's memory footprint, more than making up for the growth caused by the creation of rcu_segcblist.c Signed-off-by: Paul E. 2017-06-08srcu: Shrink srcu.h by moving docbook and private functionPaul E. McKenney
The call_srcu() docbook entry is currently in include/linux/srcu.h, which causes needless processing for each include point. This commit therefore moves this entry to kernel/rcu/srcutree.c, which the compiler reads only once. In addition, the srcu_batches_completed() function is used only within RCU and its torture-test suites. This commit therefore also moves this function's declaration from include/linux/srcutiny.h, include/linux/srcutree.h, and include/linux/srcuclassic.h to kernel/rcu/rcu.h. Signed-off-by: Paul E.
