2016-07-07timers: Make 'pinned' a timer propertyThomas Gleixner
We want to move the timer migration logic from a 'push' to a 'pull' model. Under the current 'push' model pinned timers are handled via a runtime API variant: mod_timer_pinned(). The 'pull' model requires us to store the pinned attribute of a timer in the timer_list structure itself, as a new TIMER_PINNED bit in timer->flags. This flag must be set at initialization time and the timer APIs recognize the flag. This patch: - Implements the new flag and associated new-style initialization methods - makes mod_timer() recognize new-style pinned timers, - and adds some migration helper facility to allow step by step conversion of old-style to new-style pinned timers. 2016-07-07locking/atomic: Introduce inc/dec variants for the atomic_fetch_$op() APIDavidlohr Bueso
With the inclusion of atomic FETCH-OP variants, many places in the kernel can make use of atomic_fetch_$op() to avoid the callers that need to compute the value/state _before_ the operation. Peter Zijlstra laid out the machinery but we are still missing the simpler dec,inc() calls (which future patches will make use of). This patch only deals with the generic code, as at least right now no arch actually implement them -- which is similar to what the OP-RETURN primitives currently do. 2016-07-07cpufreq: Handle sorted frequency tables more efficientlyViresh Kumar
cpufreq drivers aren't required to provide a sorted frequency table today, and even the ones which provide a sorted table aren't handled efficiently by cpufreq core. This patch adds infrastructure to verify if the freq-table provided by the drivers is sorted or not, and use efficient helpers if they are sorted. Data structures that are used both with and without RCU protection are difficult to write in a sparse-clean manner. If you mark the relevant pointers with __rcu, sparse will complain about all non-RCU uses, but if you don't mark those pointers, sparse will complain about all RCU uses. This commit therefore suppresses sparse warnings for rcu_dereference_raw(), allowing mixed-protection data structures to avoid these warnings. 2016-07-06xen: add steal_clock support on x86Juergen Gross
The pv_time_ops structure contains a function pointer for the "steal_clock" functionality used only by KVM and Xen on ARM. Xen on x86 uses its own mechanism to account for the "stolen" time a thread wasn't able to run due to hypervisor scheduling. Add support in Xen arch independent time handling for this feature by moving it out of the arm arch into drivers/xen and remove the x86 Xen hack. 2016-07-05ftrace: Reduce size of function graph entriesNamhyung Kim
Currently ftrace_graph_ent{,_entry} and ftrace_graph_ret{,_entry} struct can have padding bytes at the end due to alignment in 64-bit data type. As these data are recorded so frequently, those paddings waste non-negligible space. As the ring buffer maintains alignment properly for each architecture, just to remove the extra padding using 'packed' attribute. ftrace_graph_ent_entry: 24 -> 20 ftrace_graph_ret_entry: 48 -> 44 Also I moved the 'overrun' field in struct ftrace_graph_ret to minimize the padding in the middle. 2016-07-05fs: Update i_[ug]id_(read|write) to translate relative to s_user_nsSeth Forshee
For filesystems mounted from a user namespace on-disk ids should be translated relative to s_users_ns rather than init_user_ns. When an id in the filesystem doesn't exist in s_user_ns the associated id in the inode will be set to INVALID_[UG]ID, which turns these into de facto "nobody" ids. This actually maps pretty well into the way most code already works, and those places where it didn't were fixed in previous patches. 2016-07-05quota: Ensure qids map to the filesystemEric W. Biederman
Introduce the helper qid_has_mapping and use it to ensure that the quota system only considers qids that map to the filesystems s_user_ns. In practice for quota supporting filesystems today this is the exact same check as qid_valid. As only 0xffffffff aka (qid_t)-1 does not map into init_user_ns. Replace the qid_valid calls with qid_has_mapping as values come in from userspace. This is harmless today and it prepares the quota system to work on filesystems with quotas but mounted by unprivileged users. Call qid_has_mapping from dqget. This ensures the passed in qid has a prepresentation on the underlying filesystem. Previously this was unnecessary as filesystesm never had qids that could not map. With the introduction of filesystems outside of s_user_ns this will not remain true. All of this ensures the quota code never has to deal with qids that don't map to the underlying filesystem. 2016-07-05vfs: Don't modify inodes with a uid or gid unknown to the vfsEric W. Biederman
When a filesystem outside of init_user_ns is mounted it could have uids and gids stored in it that do not map to init_user_ns. The plan is to allow those filesystems to set i_uid to INVALID_UID and i_gid to INVALID_GID for unmapped uids and gids and then to handle that strange case in the vfs to ensure there is consistent robust handling of the weirdness. Upon a careful review of the vfs and filesystems about the only case where there is any possibility of confusion or trouble is when the inode is written back to disk. In that case filesystems typically read the inode->i_uid and inode->i_gid and write them to disk even when just an inode timestamp is being updated. Which leads to a rule that is very simple to implement and understand inodes whose i_uid or i_gid is not valid may not be written. In dealing with access times this means treat those inodes as if the inode flag S_NOATIME was set. Reads of the inodes appear safe and useful, but any write or modification is disallowed. The only inode write that is allowed is a chown that sets the uid and gid on the inode to valid values. After such a chown the inode is normal and may be treated as such. Denying all writes to inodes with uids or gids unknown to the vfs also prevents several oddball cases where corruption would have occurred because the vfs does not have complete information. One problem case that is prevented is attempting to use the gid of a directory for new inodes where the directories sgid bit is set but the directories gid is not mapped. Another problem case avoided is attempting to update the evm hash after setxattr, removexattr, and setattr. As the evm hash includeds the inode->i_uid or inode->i_gid not knowning the uid or gid prevents a correct evm hash from being computed. evm hash verification also fails when i_uid or i_gid is unknown but that is essentially harmless as it does not cause filesystem corruption. 2016-07-02iio: st_sensors: harden interrupt handlingLinus Walleij
Leonard Crestez observed the following phenomenon: when using hard interrupt triggers (the DRDY line coming out of an ST sensor) sometimes a new value would arrive while reading the previous value, due to latencies in the system. We discovered that the ST hardware as far as can be observed is designed for level interrupts: the DRDY line will be held asserted as long as there are new values coming. The interrupt handler should be re-entered until we're out of values to handle from the sensor. If interrupts were handled as occurring on the edges (usually low-to-high) new values could appear and the line be held asserted after that, and these values would be missed, the interrupt handler would also lock up as new data was available, but as no new edges occurs on the DRDY signal, nothing happens: the edge detector only detects edges. To counter this, do the following: - Accept interrupt lines to be flagged as level interrupts using IRQF_TRIGGER_HIGH and IRQF_TRIGGER_LOW. If the line is marked like this (in the device tree node or ACPI table or similar) it will be utilized as a level IRQ. We mark the line with IRQF_ONESHOT and mask the IRQ while processing a sample, then the top half will be entered again if new values are available. - If we are flagged as using edge interrupts with IRQF_TRIGGER_RISING or IRQF_TRIGGER_FALLING: remove IRQF_ONESHOT so that the interrupt line is not masked while running the thread part of the interrupt. This way we will never miss an interrupt, then introduce a loop that polls the data ready registers repeatedly until no new samples are available, then exit the interrupt handler. This way we know no new values are available when the interrupt handler exits and new (edge) interrupts will be triggered when data arrives. Take some extra care to update the timestamp in the poll loop if this happens. The timestamp will not be 100% perfect, but it will at least be closer to the actual events. Usually the extra poll loop will handle the new samples, but once in a blue moon, we get a new IRQ while exiting the loop, before returning from the thread IRQ bottom half with IRQ_HANDLED. On these rare occasions, the removal of IRQF_ONESHOT means the interrupt will immediately fire again. - If no interrupt type is indicated from the DT/ACPI, choose IRQF_TRIGGER_RISING as default, as this is necessary for legacy boards. Tested successfully on the LIS331DL and L3G4200D by setting sampling frequency to 400Hz/800Hz and stressing the system: extra reads in the threaded interrupt handler occurs. To allow creating more than one netdev over the same PCI function, we change the driver such that global NIC resources are created once and later be shared amongst all the mlx5e netdevs running over that port. Move the CQ UAR, PD (pdn), Transport Domain (tdn), MKey resources from being kept in the mlx5e priv part to a new resources structure (mlx5e_resources) placed under the mlx5_core device. This patch doesn't add any new functionality. Add a new namespace (MLX5_FLOW_NAMESPACE_OFFLOADS) to be populated with flow steering rules that deal with rules that have have to be executed before the EN NIC steering rules are matched. The namespace is located after the bypass name-space and before the kernel name-space. Therefore, it precedes the HW processing done for rules set for the kernel NIC name-space. Under SRIOV, it would allow us to match on e-switch missed packet and forward them to the relevant VF representor TIR.
