2018-05-15HID: add driver for Valve Steam ControllerRodrigo Rivas Costa
There are two ways to connect the Steam Controller: directly to the USB or with the USB wireless adapter. Both methods are similar, but the wireless adapter can connect up to 4 devices at the same time. The wired device will appear as 3 interfaces: a virtual mouse, a virtual keyboard and a custom HID device. The wireless device will appear as 5 interfaces: a virtual keyboard and 4 custom HID devices, that will remain silent until a device is actually connected. The custom HID device has a report descriptor with all vendor specific usages, so the hid-generic is not very useful. In a PC/SteamBox Valve Steam Client provices a software translation by using hidraw and a creates a uinput virtual gamepad and XTest keyboard/mouse. This driver intercepts the hidraw usage, so it can get out of the way when the Steam Client is in use. 2018-05-15x86/asm/memcpy_mcsafe: Return bytes remainingDan Williams
Machine check safe memory copies are currently deployed in the pmem driver whenever reading from persistent memory media, so that -EIO is returned rather than triggering a kernel panic. While this protects most pmem accesses, it is not complete in the filesystem-dax case. When filesystem-dax is enabled reads may bypass the block layer and the driver via dax_iomap_actor() and its usage of copy_to_iter(). In preparation for creating a copy_to_iter() variant that can handle machine checks, teach memcpy_mcsafe() to return the number of bytes remaining rather than -EFAULT when an exception occurs. 2018-05-15locking/spinlocks: Clean up comment and #ifndef for {,queued_}spin_is_locked()Andrea Parri
Removes "#ifndef queued_spin_is_locked" from the generic code: this is unused and it's reasonable to conclude that it will continue to be unused. Also removes the comment about spin_is_locked() from mutex_is_locked(): the comment remains valid but not particularly useful. 2018-05-15locking/spinlocks: Document the semantics of spin_is_locked()Andrea Parri
There appeared to be a certain, recurrent uncertainty concerning the semantics of spin_is_locked(), likely a consequence of the fact that this semantics remains undocumented or that it has been historically linked to the (likewise unclear) semantics of spin_unlock_wait(). A recent auditing [1] of the callers of the primitive confirmed that none of them are relying on particular ordering guarantees; document this semantics by adding a docbook header to spin_is_locked(). Also, describe behaviors specific to certain CONFIG_SMP=n builds. 2018-05-15ALSA: usb-audio: UAC3 Add support for connector insertion.Jorge Sanjuan
This adds support for the UAC3 insertion controls. The status is reported as a boolean value in the same way it used to do for UAC2. Hence, the presence of any connector in the response will make the control saying the jack is connected. The UAC2 support for this control has been moved to a dedicated control for connectors as both UAC2 and UAC3 follow a specific Control Request Parameter Block for this control. This parameter block for UAC3 could not be read in the same simplistic manner as in UAC2. This implementation is not requesting additional information from the HIGH CAPABILITY Connectors descriptor. Tested with an UAC3 device with UAC2 as legacy configuration. The connector status can be read with `amixer` and the interrupt is also caught with `alsactl monitor`. 2018-05-14tracing/x86/xen: Remove zero data size trace events ↵Steven Rostedt (VMware)
trace_xen_mmu_flush_tlb{_all} Doing an audit of trace events, I discovered two trace events in the xen subsystem that use a hack to create zero data size trace events. This is not what trace events are for. Trace events add memory footprint overhead, and if all you need to do is see if a function is hit or not, simply make that function noinline and use function tracer filtering. Worse yet, the hack used was: __array(char, x, 0) Which creates a static string of zero in length. There's assumptions about such constructs in ftrace that this is a dynamic string that is nul terminated. This is not the case with these tracepoints and can cause problems in various parts of ftrace. Nuke the trace events! 2018-05-14PM / Domains: Allow a better error handling of dev_pm_domain_attach()Ulf Hansson
The callers of dev_pm_domain_attach() currently checks the returned error code for -EPROBE_DEFER and needs to ignore other error codes. This is an unnecessary limitation, which also leads to a rather strange behaviour in the error path. Address this limitation, by changing the return codes from acpi_dev_pm_attach() and genpd_dev_pm_attach(). More precisely, let them return 0, when no PM domain is needed for the device and then return 1, in case the device was successfully attached to its PM domain. In this way, dev_pm_domain_attach(), gets a better understanding of what happens in the attach attempts and also allowing its caller to better act on real errors codes. 2018-05-14sched: cls: enable verbose loggingMarcelo Ricardo Leitner
Currently, when the rule is not to be exclusively executed by the hardware, extack is not passed along and offloading failures don't get logged. The idea was that hardware failures are okay because the rule will get executed in software then and this way it doesn't confuse unware users. But this is not helpful in case one needs to understand why a certain rule failed to get offloaded. Considering it may have been a temporary failure, like resources exceeded or so, reproducing it later and knowing that it is triggering the same reason may be challenging. The ultimate goal is to improve Open vSwitch debuggability when using flower offloading. This patch adds a new flag to enable verbose logging. With the flag set, extack will be passed to the driver, which will be able to log the error. As the operation itself probably won't fail (not because of this, at least), current iproute will already log it as a Warning. The flag is generic, so it can be reused later. No need to restrict it just for HW offloading. The command line will follow the syntax that tc-ebpf already uses, tc ... [ verbose ] ... , and extend its meaning. For example: # ./tc qdisc add dev p7p1 ingress # ./tc filter add dev p7p1 parent ffff: protocol ip prio 1 \ flower verbose \ src_mac ed:13:db:00:00:00 dst_mac 01:80:c2:00:00:d0 \ src_ip 56.0.0.0 dst_ip 55.0.0.0 action drop Warning: TC offload is disabled on net device. # echo $? 0 # ./tc filter add dev p7p1 parent ffff: protocol ip prio 1 \ flower \ src_mac ff:13:db:00:00:00 dst_mac 01:80:c2:00:00:d0 \ src_ip 56.0.0.0 dst_ip 55.0.0.0 action drop # echo $? 0 Signed-off-by: Marcelo Ricardo Leitner <marcelo.leitner@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2018-05-14vmcore: add API to collect hardware dump in second kernelRahul Lakkireddy
The sequence of actions done by device drivers to append their device specific hardware/firmware logs to /proc/vmcore are as follows: 1. During probe (before hardware is initialized), device drivers register to the vmcore module (via vmcore_add_device_dump()), with callback function, along with buffer size and log name needed for firmware/hardware log collection. 2. vmcore module allocates the buffer with requested size. It adds an Elf note and invokes the device driver's registered callback function. 3. Device driver collects all hardware/firmware logs into the buffer and returns control back to vmcore module. Ensure that the device dump buffer size is always aligned to page size so that it can be mmaped. Also, rename alloc_elfnotes_buf() to vmcore_alloc_buf() to make it more generic and reserve NT_VMCOREDD note type to indicate vmcore device dump. Suggested-by: Eric Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com>. 2018-05-14firmware: add firmware_request_nowarn() - load firmware without warningsAndres Rodriguez
Currently the firmware loader only exposes one silent path for querying optional firmware, and that is firmware_request_direct(). This function also disables the sysfs fallback mechanism, which might not always be the desired behaviour [0]. This patch introduces a variations of request_firmware() that enable the caller to disable the undesired warning messages but enables the sysfs fallback mechanism. This is equivalent to adding FW_OPT_NO_WARN to the old behaviour. 2018-05-14nubus: Call bus_register unconditionallyFinn Thain
Loading a NuBus driver module on a non-NuBus machine triggers the BUG_ON(!drv->bus->p) in driver_register(), because bus_register() was not called, because it is conditional on MACH_IS_MAC. Fix the crash by calling bus_register() unconditionally. Call it from a postcore_initcall(), like other busses do. Hence, the bus type is available for device_register(), which happens in a subsys initcall, and for driver_register(), which happens in a device or module initcall. 2018-05-14drivers: nvmem: Export nvmem_add_cells()Andrew Lunn
Not all platforms use device tree. It is useful to be able to add cells to a NVMEM device from code. Export nvmem_add_cells() so making this possible. This required changing the parameters a bit, so that just the cells and the number of cells are passed, not the whole nvmem config structure. Prevent destruction of a uio_device while user space apps hold open file descriptors to that device. Further, access to the 'info' member of the struct uio_device is protected by spinlock. This is to ensure stale pointers to data not under control of the UIO subsystem are not dereferenced. 2018-05-14Drivers: hv: vmbus: enable VMBus protocol version 5.0Dexuan Cui
With VMBus protocol 5.0, we're able to better support new features, e.g. running two or more VMBus drivers simultaneously in a single VM -- note: we can't simply load the current VMBus driver twice, instead, a secondary VMBus driver must be implemented. This patch adds the support for the new VMBus protocol, which is available on new Windows hosts, by: 1) We still use SINT2 for compatibility; 2) We must use Connection ID 4 for the Initiate Contact Message, and for subsequent messages, we must use the Message Connection ID field in the host-returned VersionResponse Message. Notes for developers of the secondary VMBus driver: 1) Must use VMBus protocol 5.0 as well; 2) Must use a different SINT number that is not in use. 3) Must use Connection ID 4 for the Initiate Contact Message, and for subsequent messages, must use the Message Connection ID field in the host-returned VersionResponse Message. 4) It's possible that the primary VMBus driver using protocol version 4.0 can work with a secondary VMBus driver using protocol version 5.0, but it's recommended that both should use 5.0 for new Hyper-V features in the future.
